Carnitas Combo

In a town that has no clue as to what real Mexican food is, this place does a good job. One can tell the owners really want to serve truly authentic Mexican cuisine, but they're holding themselves back because of the community they're in. Which is sad in many ways. The appetizers are good, but the salsa that they bring with the chips to start is barely ok and caters to a clientele that has no idea as to what real salsa is. We will be back because the alternatives in the area aren't a match but next time we will know to ask for the real stuff! We also didn't like the kids of other patrons running all over the place - it was annoying and bad parenting on display. But the owners were tolerant and there wasn't much they could do.

Stopped at a new place for us in Scottsboro. Delicious torta and grilled chicken nachos. Horchata is some of the best I have had.

Great Mexican food! So glad we found this place while staying at the lake. They have a lunch buffet on Sunday and also a full menu.

As recent transplants, we were looking for a good Mexican Restaurant. Another local restaurant was…read morerecommended but we stopped in La Cabaña, and we are glad we did. This will be our go to Mexican Restaurant. Loved the decor, the salsa and chips were amazing and our food was extremely delicious, even though they were not busy when we stopped in. We stopped in at La Cabaña by JUAN for an early dinner and had a decent overall experience. One…read morething I appreciated right away was that drinks come in generous pitchers -- great value if you're going with a group. Chips and salsa were brought to the table without having to ask, which is always a welcome touch. Service was attentive considering there was only one server handling the floor. Props to them for keeping things running smoothly. The food was middle-of-the-road -- not the best Mexican I've had, but certainly not the worst either. If you're looking for a solid, no-surprises meal, it'll do the job. The atmosphere is actually one of the highlights. It's a nice bar setting, well-lit, and wasn't overly loud during our early visit -- easy to hold a conversation, which isn't always a given at a bar. Now, the restrooms could use some attention. They're a bit dated and in need of updating. I did get a chuckle out of the handwashing requirement sign posted prominently on the wall -- right next to the one soap dispenser that happened to be completely empty. It makes you wonder how closely that policy is actually enforced. Overall, La Cabaña by JUAN is a fine spot for drinks and a casual bite. Just maybe bring your own hand sanitizer.

The place itself is small, quaint, and authentically Mexican, and the server was super sweet though not Mexican at all. Prices are VERY reasonable, though they've gone up slightly I think in the past few years (to be expected). Here's what we tried: -Mex Sausage Taco: 8/10 - Small, but great flavor. The tortilla on this taco was stunning: it was a corn tortilla, yet it was so thick and soft. That's not something you see everyday. The sausage (chorizo) was well seasoned and nicely crumbly, and it was an overall pretty good street taco. -Aztec Steak Burrito: 9/10 - The flavor of the meat inside the burrito was so good, as the steak was tender and well seasoned. (The burrito comes with a huge portion of mexican rice and refried beans, and while the rice is your average if not a bit less flavorful mexican rice, the refried beans are very watery and pretty lacking in richness.) The burrito is definitely the important part of this plate, and it hit the mark for me. -Chicken Tamale: 7/10 - Chicken was good, though I wish they had put cheese in with the chicken to add some extra texture and spice things up. It was a well made tamale, just not the best I've had. -Dobladas: 5/10 - We weren't sure what to expect here. Normally dobladas are a guatemalan dish where tortillas are simply folded and fried in a pan with cheese. This was almost like a gordita-esque dish, consisting of an even thicker than normal tortilla with chicken, lettuce, and sour cream. The chicken isn't packing a big punch, and while the tortilla is good, the lettuce and the sour cream don't add enough flavor to really make the dish sing. It's good though, and something more on the fresh side if that's what you're looking for. -Chicken Quesadilla: 2/10 - Wow, so so disappointing. The cheese was barely melted, the tortilla was dry, and the chicken was lackluster in flavor. Not worth it at all. Wouldn't come again, but not a bad experience.

Warm tortillas accompany this hearth soup tha twill keep you full ALL day. Yummy! Can't wait to come back for more, especially with the cold weather on the horizon. 92 health rating and a real down home feel.

My wife's Hamburger wasn't much better, I ordered it with mustard only to realize when I got home it didn't have any mustard. When I called back to the Restaurant the cashier told me they didn't have mustard. When I asked why she didn't tell me that when I ordered it she politely said, well bring it back and I sill refund your money. The scam of promising things knowing your not going to follow through. They know the average person is not going to drive back to the restaurant. No best thing go do is just find somewhere else to eat. The Reputation got us there but the quality of the food was not good enough to bring us back. I suppose they try to run their business on one time sales. Eventually that sill catch up on a business.
