Visited for lunch on Thursday and was unfortunately sorely disappointed. I arrived at about 12:45 and found a fairly full parking lot. The lot is a little torn up but not too bad. It's easy to get in and out. Walked around to the front and stood in the entryway for a few minutes. Didn't know the protocol since it was my first visit. Eventually, a waitress said loudly from the drink machine to seat myself, so I selected an empty booth near the kitchen. There's a lot of seating inside. I'd say the restaurant was about 1/3 full. Idk where people park when they're at capacity lol. Waitress came over and somewhat incredulously asked if I was by myself, which I confirmed. She pushed a scrap of white paper in front of me and told me to circle what I wanted and she'd pick it up. Eh...okay. It was a limited menu of meat + 3 combinations. They advertise breakfast till 1 as well as burgers and sandwiches but none of that was on there. However, the waitress' demeanor can only be described as frosty, and fortunately I was okay with my choices, so I kept to myself. But a part of me was kind of curious about breakfast for lunch. Alas. She returned with my tea wordlessly and swiped up my slip with my order. I circled a fried chicken breast with "potato patties" and fried okra. The sweet tea was the best thing I had and I enjoyed drinking it while I waited for my food. No refills or to go cups were ever offered though. I will grant the food came out fairly fast...but it also came out cold. Well, the chicken and potatoes were approximating room temperature, but the okra wasn't even lukewarm. My grouchy waitress also didn't give me any silverware and ran off before I could ask for any. I had to hunt down a different, only marginally less grouchy waitress so I could eat my food with a fork. It's a shame the okra was cold because it had a hint of potential; the breading was sort of cornmeal-y and might have once been crispy. As it was, it wasn't good at all -- the cold okra got slimy. The chicken was passable but also not nearly hot enough. The breading also needed more seasoning. The potato patties were...not patties? I was expecting something like a Jojo (small crispy potato round, thicker than a chip) or at least something circular lol, but instead I got two scoops of a sort of whipped potato casserole. This would've also been alright except it was lukewarm and, even worse, absolutely replete with still-crunchy large pieces of onion. Couldn't get a mouthful without them and left with much smellier breath. The one redeeming factor other than the tea was the bread basket: two yeast rolls and a hunk of cornbread. The cornbread was awful (bland and dry), but the yeast rolls were soft and warm and about the only food item I legitimately enjoyed -- even though, once again, my waitress left me hanging with no butter. I really couldn't wait to get out as I felt terribly unwelcome, so as soon as I ate what I could stomach I went to the marginally less unfriendly waitress and paid at the register. The price was decent (~$15 before tip). I did still tip, but I was salty -- legitimately some of the worst service I've had in a long time. I'm forgiving of long wait times and forgotten stuff, but I really don't like callous attitudes when I do my best to be pleasant and accommodating. Definitely wouldn't return. 2 stars because the food was edible and the place was clean enough. The hunt for a decent lunch in Scottsboro continues. read more

We were on our way back to Huntsville after a weekend of fishing and decided to stop in for breakfast. What a great meal! I chose cheesy scrambled eggs with pancakes and a side of bologna. All delicious. The half-inch bologna slice was juicy and yummy. The pancakes were airy and thick with crispy edges. The scrambled eggs had plenty of cheese, and the coffee was hot. Our server was attentive and kept our cups full. We'll definitely be back. read more

Dropped in at Liberty Restaurant. Kind of a local place. The menu was fairly full of options. Home cooking would be their theme if you are picking one. We both ordered omelets. They were ok. Strangely they weren't mixed. I was like an egg quesadilla. Egg flapped over the ingredients. It was ok, but not anything amazing. I'll try them again sometime when I'm in Scottsboro. The desserts looked amazing. Just next time I won't get the omelette. read more

Stopped by here on Sunday on the way home from a weekend trip to Scottsboro, Alabama. It was one of the only restaurants around, just on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. We would've never thought that we would run into a celebrity inside! We actually met Duane Chapman, the bounty hunter! Lol Location: It's just off the side of the road and really the only restaurant around. It was very easy to find and not crowded. There was plenty of parking. Staff: Soo nice! I was with a group of 10 French people here temporarily in Atlanta for work. The staff were super nice and understanding. They helped explain things and gave us all of the details about the daily special and recommendations. They came to check on us regularly. The pancakes are twice the size of your head and you get two. Someone ordered them, they brought them out and the one on top was slightly smaller than the other, and they brought two more to make up for it, but the two they brought originally were already more than enough for 5 people!! Haha Experience: Great experience. It is a small country diner with great home cooked food and sweet staff! Food: They were out of grits, so I was sad about that but ended up getting the pecan waffle, scrambled eggs with cheese and hash browns, all of which was delicious. I was expecting the pecan waffles to have pecans inside or have a special syrup or something, but it was just a waffle with pecans on top. It was still good but nothing special. I told my wife that this is a definite diamond in the rough. Quaint local establishment with a similarly branded motel and package store across the street. Extremely polite and attentive staff. Very clean with a retro vibe. We started off with the cinnamon roll which had just the right amount of chew, hint of apple, and wasn't too sweet. Progressed to the country fried steak and eggs with biscuit. Was pleasantly surprised to find that the country fried steak was a bomb pork that was seasoned and trimmed perfectly. Coffee was probably the best I've had outside of a coffee shop. It was obviously fresh. Won't hesitate to come back in the future. May even stay at the motel. read more

If you want a small town dinner, this is your place. I grew up on it, and the amount of homemade desserts make it worth the stop-alone. When we roll into town we almost always make a stop in for a good, freshly made breakfast. You can't beat it. Service is the tops, and the coffee is always hot. I was passing through Scottsboro and used the Yelp app to identify a unique breakfast spot. Liberty Restaurant satisfied all of the criteria...off the main road, small, been in existence for a long time, good reviews, and local hangout. The restaurant is located about one mile off Hwy 72 and when I pulled up I knew I made a good selection; the parking lot was full and most of the cars were pick-up trucks. The building is old and someone run-down, but maintained. The interior was clean and had the old style booths, tables, and chairs. The color scheme is the old green color from the 60s and 70s. I ordered the meat omelette and coffee. They bring a pot of coffee and place it on the table...yes, thank you! The omelette was large and stuffed with meat. The omelette included sausage, bacon, and bologna...yes, bologna. The only complaint with the omelette is the outer egg shell of the omelette was very thin and broke apart easily. Sometimes this is caused by cooking omelets on a flat top and that is my guess here. Overall the food and service was very good. If passing through make the effort to drive one mile off the main highway. read more

Sausage was way overcooked. 50 minute wait to receive food. Took asking 2 different waitresses where our order was. The waitress that started our order with water never came back to our table to take our order. Had to ask 2nd waitress if she would take our order. 50 minutes later had to ask 3rd waitress to check on our order. Husband ordered country ham and eggs over medium. 5 stars for the food... We have stopped here twice on our way through town and have been pleasantly surprised with this little diner. The fire burger off the main menu is incredible! It is made to order with jalapeños mixed right into the burger meat. We have yet to try one of their daily specials, but they say the fried chicken is always a big seller. This place hasn't been updated in a while (ok, a very long time) and it's not the cleanest restaurant I've ever been in, but we feel the food more than makes up for the atmosphere. read more

Is the best food ever? No. Does it get the job done for little money? Yes. The portions are ginormous so you definitely won't leave hungry. This is typical, basic diner food with the exception with unique omelette selections. It isn't overly greasy but I wouldn't exactly say anything is healthy. We stopped here for breakfast on the way from Huntsville to Desoto State Park for a day of hiking in the heat. This meal kept us full for several miles beyond lunch time! On a weekend morning with no writing deadlines and laundry and dishes pushed off, we gathered ourselves and went on a roadtrip. By mid-afternoon, having reached our destination several hours earlier and once wandering had grown tiresome, we arrived at the Liberty Restaurant in Scottsboro, Alabama. With a plate of fried chicken and with an apparent side of Ore Ida crinkle cut french fries, it's hard to not balk at the food. Even though the fried chicken is better than most you'll find at other places, it's delivered without any such claims of being 'the best', or any of the many superlatives and adjectives that simply add to the hype that only sets you up for a big let down. Liberty Restaurant serves good fried chicken, and on that weekend afternoon with the hours ticking away, there are few places I'd rather be than there with my girlfriend and the knowledge that we still had the drive back. Because roadtrips are our thing. It's our time, our meager attempt at real travel but not the limited and mutated form experienced through flights and airports, but across landscapes and country sides. When you turn off a highway and hope to get lost, in search of nothing but always happy with what you find. The Liberty Restaurant in Scottsboro, Alabama is nearly perfect. It's great where it can be and falters everywhere you would want it to. With one dining room decorated with turquoise blue chairs and bright pink checkered tiles, and the other room using the opposite color scheme of neon pink chairs and turqoise checkered square tiles, it's awesomely mismatched with the fake wood paneling still hanging from a 70's remodeling job. Passing through the pasture towns stringed along a two lane highway, it's a rare escape and it's on trips like these that I find my breath. When I don't know where we're going to end up. When the Liberty Restaurant is all of a sudden the most memorable moment of a roadtrip and I never knew it existed until then. With the open road winding and twisting into areas I've never seen, the shallow breath I keep while sitting at my desk in this office is freed and being in the moment was never so real. Liberty Restaurant in Scottsboro, Alabama is great if you happen to find yourself in town on a weekend afternoon. The food is passable, and the town has few surprises. But none of that was ever the reason why we left the main freeway and drove through towns with no names and getting lost was always a great choice. read more

I have eaten here a dozen times the past few years. Always breakfast though. The food is good but also cheap. They have a wide variety of breakfast items and the staff is courteous as well. This is a local food stop for cavers in the area, so you may see folks like myself in there grabbing a bite to eat before heading out for the day. read more

First time to eat here, drove 85 miles to Scottsboro and chose this place for our Sunday lunch. We ordered the Ribeye Roast and 2 vegetables with coconut cream pie for dessert. This was the worst meal I think we've ever had. The Ribeye Roast was nothing more than blobs of fat with not enough lean to count, the tiny bits were tasteless and tough. (We picked up our food to go because of covid risk) Mashed potatoes were full of pepper and tasted like the water was drained off and pepper thrown in, no butter or cream or salt. Slaw, green beans, corn, yuk! Homemade pie? The only good thing was the people there were at least friendly to my husband when he ordered. I wanted to go in and show them the meat they served us and complain but he would not allow me to. He said but they were so nice. I hated that he spent $30 of his hard earned money for this food. We found this little diner on Yelp while on a road trip from Chattanooga to MS. A little tucked away from the main drag of 72 so we wouldn't have found it without Yelp. Like the other reviews say it's decor is a bit dated, but what I'd expect from a little diner in a small Alabama town. We had pancakes and eggs and they were quite good. I opted for gravy as a side and put it on my biscuit. The bacon was cooked to perfection, crisp but not burnt. I couldn't tell if the biscuits and pancakes were from a mix, but both were good anyway, so it didn't matter. The food was slow getting to us, but that's only because there was a large group of locals ahead of us. When our meal arrived it was still hot and there was a lot of food! Pancakes/eggs/bacon and eggs/biscuits/bacon/coffee was less than $12. Can't beat that! read more
