Very casual restaurant but our meals were very good and very reasonably priced. We had steak fajitas (aka sizzling skillet on their menu) and carnitas. Generous potions. Refried beans were excellent. This place is FAST! The chips and salsa are good, the staff is very efficient. The decor is colorful with plenty of seating for large parties. I had the shrimp quesadilla. It had lots of peppers and onions with guacamole. I got my fix!! The refried beans were also tasty and creamy. They do a nice job and work hard. read more

This is my third visit to El Cantarito in Harriman. Our first visit was in Sept after a local event. We came back again because we had such a good experience. The staff are friendly and prompt to offer services. The food is insanely affordable and we really enjoyed the meals. I ordered steak / chicken fajitas, and requested they be cooked 'dry', a request some places struggle with. El Cantarito had absolutely no issue with this. The food came out hot and oil free. We also ordered Enchilada Suizas. The portion size was great, as was the flavor. We enjoyed the nice, relaxed, laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend trying if you're in the area. read more

Food is standard Americanized Tex-Mex cuisine but tasty and you get quite a bit for the price. It was a busy night but the servers where watching out for each other so nothing bad there. Ambience is a little to stereotypical but doesn't dampen the experience. It can be loud so if you have noise sensitivity beware. I would definitely go again. read more

Muy Bueno family Mexican restaurant. We love El Cantarito and now go to its sister restaurant El Patron in Rockwood. I keep trying different entrees and every one has been great. Try the homemade fresh guacamole and ask for hot salsa if you want more spice than the standard stuff. Oh, and the margaritas are very good and priced low like all the offerings at these places. Plan on everything costing about $20 per person including two margaritas. You can't beat it. read more

I've been eating here at the Oak Ridge and Harriman locations for years. The new Harriman building was long overdue and is a big improvement. The service has always been great. The Harriman service is exceptional. The food is flavorful and the salsa has just the right amount of bite for typical diners. PLEASANT SURPRISE A bunch of us teachers from LA County for a Freedom School Training and ate practically everyday that it did not rain. The food was delicious with some authenticity. The servers were so awesome especially the guys. Will definitely come back next year! We enjoyed the Fish and Shrimp Fajitas, chimichangas, queso blanco and toreados. The reviews confuse me. Was excited to try and had it delivered - now I know delivery can be different than "fresh from the kitchen" so I already had that in mind. Carnitas lacked flavor and didn't have the nice "crispy edges" truly good carnitas should have. At least they were tender. Ordered the enchiladas that come with one of each. The cheese one was completely unmelted cheese and I had to stick it in the microwave. The enchilada sauce reminded us more like ketchup and/or a store bought brand. We got the meat "queso" - but it didn't actually have QUESO. It was milky watered down ground beef. So that was disappointing. The tortillas seemed like store bought ones. The beans at least seemed like they weren't from a can, but they also lacked flavor. The guacamole was all right, but needed some salt. So did the chips. The mixed fajitas weren't bad, not the best, but okay with the rice and beans. Not the "traditional carne asada" style for the beef. I noticed they opened a new building recently so maybe some things have changed? read more

Best meal I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant! I had steak and shrimp nachos based on the reviews I had read. I got confused because they are under Appetizers. Believe me they are WAY more than that! The steak was tender the shrimp were fresh and perfectly cooked. The onions and peppers seared perfectly. Recently moved to the Knoxville area from upstate NY and tried El Cantarito II in Harriman this evening. I have visited 4 other local Mexican restaurants and this is the best by far. My date had a shrimp quesadilla, rice, and refried beans and I had carne asada tacos and refried beans. Everything was amazing and the beans were the best I have ever eaten. My date had a jumbo margarita and I had a diet soda. Both drinks were massive. The beans were so good we ordered additional sides to take home. When they brought those to the table they added in chips and salsa. They are building a new restaurant next door and they need it. While we were there the parking lot never emptied. When you serve good food with quality service that happens. This will definitely be a regulate stop. read more
