The old gas station exterior might throw off a few people, but this homey restaurant is one of the best around. I've heard they're remodeling and are closed until the end of August. I hope they don't change the eclectic look they had. It's what made this place so unique and special. The food and service was excellent. The menu has plenty of choices and the prices are reasonable. My wife had a hamburger and it was huge. My mom had the open faced roast beef sandwich and couldn't even eat half of it. I had the super hotdog which was exactly as messy and filling as I like them. Wow, this place is awesome. Originally from Harriman and back for a visit. Saw this place and stopped for a quick lunch. The food is fantastic, the people are the friendliest in Harriman and the prices are great. I had the chicken livers and the okra, my wife had the grilled shrimp. Stopped by while driving thru Harriman. Staff was not friendly and the menu was confusing. They upcharge fpr everything. I had the meat loaf and it said two sides... I chose the fried potatoes with onions and mac snd cheese. My wife was not hungry and asked if she could get the kids burger and fries. They said ok, but it would not include the drink for an adult. Hmm a hamburger with a side is 11 bucks. The kids is 8 and a drink is 3 bucks. The meat loaf was over loaded with green peppers and over cooked. Mac and cheese was over cooke an hard. Fried potatoes were under cooked and had no onions. Thebill came and the was an upcharge for each of the sides. They wehad premium sides. 32 bucks for subpar food. That should be ashamed! read more

Traveling through the area with Wife and we stopped in for lunch. Homemade food greatness and awesome waitress.

Even the most finicky of appetites would be able to find something to eat here! I chose one of the "specials of the day". At 6:00, it was not disappointing. Everything tasted made to order..fresh and hot! The staff was super nice and accommodating. I will definitely return when I find my way back to Harriman. Wow, they had the best banana pudding I've had in a long time. Coming from a family where great grandpa always had a dish of banana pudding in the fridge; this is saying, it was really really good. The service was extremely attentive even though it was exhaustingly busy. At one point the owner came over and stuck up a conversation. My drink was a little less than half empty. He proceeded to get me a refill and said they shouldn't let it get that low. We said we understood because it was so busy and he replied that is no excuse. The food was not only delicious but very timely. I hardly got back from my trip to the salad bar than she was delivering our meals. Good Meatloaf can be hard to find but not here. And the Mac and cheese wasn't instant or overly processed. For my fellow southerners, they know what sweet tea is supposed to be. I just can't say enough good things about this place. We decided to split the Catfish, which was excellent! And I also ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes. The cornmeal crust on both was delicious. HOWEVER..... the delicious food was totally ruined by packaged tarter sauce and packaged ranch dressing and packaged lemon juice. Unbelievable! I would have given it 5 stars if they hadn't been so cheap and lazy. I'll only eat here again if I bring my own condiments. read more

This is Old gas station that has been turned into a home cooking restaurant. Had chicken and dumpling special. Super good. Finished up with coconut cream pie which was awesome. Coleslaw was also exceptionally good. If near this area definitely put this place on your list! Don't let the outside fool you, this place is the real deal when it comes to good cooking. You know it was just made and that it wasn't sitting back in a warming oven for hours. The portions are huge! The variety of food is more than anyplace I've ever been I usually get the Chicken Quesadilla and honestly I have enough for lunch the next day. My son will get the Country fried steak with fried okra and carrots and mashed potatoes, or other times he gets a cheeseburger or a patty melt, everything is always perfect. Then let's talk about the homemade deserts, they are absolutely to die for, I try to resist and usually I can at least keep a little control, but they have the most delicious cakes I have to have a slice. Try it for yourself, you won't go away hungry, and the prices are more than reasonable. read more

This unassuming place has some of the most delicious food in the area. It's better than some pricier, fancier restaurants in Knoxville. Service is excellent and with a smile, too. We love RSG and are there at least once a week. Sometimes several times a week. They have a chicken quesadilla that is so good. Food is always high quality, freshly cooked and delicious. I recently moved to the area and we stopped in to give this place a try shortly after moving in. Let me preface this by saying that my husband and i have been looking for a great little "home cooking" place with great food and reasonable prices for years in every place we've lived...we've finally found it. We have been back several times and have been happy with every meal. The burgers are absolutely worth a trip. I've tried to get something different every time we go and so far i can say that the open faced roast beef sandwhich with mashed potatoes and gravy was incredible - home cooked, tender pot roast ( no sliced lunch meat here!) Their fries have great flavor and a really nice crisp from the very light batter they're tossed in. And really, all burgers are not created equal - their burgers are really delicious (and big)! Don't miss the side of homemade coleslaw! The desserts are all homemade as well and although we didn't have room after our delicious meals, they looked too good to pass up and we brought a couple of slices of cakes home to try later and we were not disappointed. The staff and the owner are so very nice and remember you when you come back which always makes you feel good as a customer. It's a place where you'll likely run into the same people visit after visit and i can say that we will be regulars also from now on. There are a lot of positives, but to be completely honest i will also mention the one (and only) negative that I've found. I did try the crab cakes during one visit and really wasn't too thrilled with them. They were rather bland, lots of bread filler and not much in terms of chunky crab meat. The crab cakes were frozen and not home made which i think is the problem (because everything we've tried which they did make themselves was excellent). So, my only advice would be for them to skip the frozen/pre-prepared items and concentrate just on the home cooked items - even if that means a little smaller menu or only offering certain foods when they're in season. This would ensure a great dish every time and they have proven time and time again that they certainly can cook! I know that i for one would certainly pay a little more for a really good fresh homemade crabcake rather than ordering a frozen one again. But, this was only one item and the rest of my experiences there have all been very very positive. To be honest, the frozen crabcake wasn't even horrible - it just wasn't anywhere near as good as their truly excellent home cooked foods by comparison. All in all, this is a great place to stop if you're heading through town or looking for a great local place with really good, stick-to-your-ribs home cooking. As a side note, we were also pleasantly surprised by how clean the place was every time we stopped in, no matter the time of day. The bathrooms are always clean and well stocked which makes me feel good about how clean the kitchen must be as well since they certainly take pride in hoping things clean and tidy. Poor quality food. Ordered the ham slice with mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes. Tomatoes were previously frozen and had a mushy consistency. Noodles in the mac n cheese had dehydrated and were tough and chewy. Came with a roll which was stale. Ham slice was ok. I will not be returning in the future. Love coming here with family. They are always fast. They give you large portions. I always have extra to take home. The food is good southern cooking. And the staff is always friendly. I have been here many many times and never had a negative experience. The prices are awesome as well. read more
