I'm always happy with the food when I go here. First time trying their birria tacos and definitely wasn't disappointed. The tacos had lots of meat, and 3 tacos was too much for one average person to eat in one sitting. The nachos were good as well, and the chips and salsa. But the birria was the star of the show. Also, I really really enjoyed the watermelon fresca and pineapple fresca. Both were free refills, and I couldn't stop drinking them. Pro tip: If you're eating there, order the small drink. It might be more trips to the drinking fountain, but why pay more for a bigger cup when it's free refills? I was full and already past my calories for the day, but next time, I want to try their desserts. read more

We ate there on around noon on Monday as we were making our way back to the Bay Area. First time there and was pleasantly surprised. Place was packed and the food was really good. I had a chili relleno and cheese enchilada combo plate. It was hot and delicious. Some of the seafood dishes looked really impressive. Can't wait until I'm back in Modesto again. Everyone here is nice and upbeat. I really like that you order and pay up front--it saves time for both the staff and customers. Once I'm done eating, I can just get up and leave without waiting around for a check. That said, they still come by to check on your table and make sure everything's good, which I appreciate. The food is pretty good overall from what we've ordered. I do think they're stronger in certain areas than others. I wouldn't recommend the menudo--it just wasn't it. The horchata is very sweet and kind of mid, but stick to other drinks and you'll be fine. The carnitas, though, are really good and full of flavor. I've tried a few different items on the menu and everything has been solid so far, except I haven't tried the mariscos yet. My now go-to orders are the crispy tacos or the El Capitan breakfast burrito. The salsa bar has a nice variety, and all of the salsas are good too. read more

For Mother's Day of 2023, my family decided to head out to Modesto where my sis barely moved to! We wanted to try something new and different from what we usually go to. To place an order you have to look at the menu and order at the register, which is a bit strange for me. But I didn't mind so we didn't have to wait for the bill after and we can eat and enjoy our food. It was really hot out and wanted a miche so bad I had to order one! My brother (my drinking partner) decided to order one too! Of course I got my beer Modelo and I decided to order Camaron de la diabla and man let me tell you sooo bomb!!!! I absolutely fell in love with my plate and definitely would come back for more! The miche had a weird taste to it they added this black sauce on top that did not mixed well the drink at all. Went last week, ordered some aguachiles and became very sick the next day. It really concerned me because it made me wonder if they didn't cook something right. Besides that my friend and I saw cockroaches on the side walls. The bathroom was not well sanitized, the dispenser didn't have any soap, shouldn't the county come down for this? If you're heading down 99 there are numerous good choices for mexican food, however on this late night after a holiday our choices were limited. We decided to try a seafood place, with good reviews, and not far off the freeway. Service - Quick and friendly especially so close to the holidays and late at night. Even thought they got two parts of our order for 5 people wrong, they quickly made a new crispy taco to replace the erroneous soft taco. The young gentlemen was patient and helpful making suggestions. The young lady with dark hair and deep blue eyes was busy cleaning tables and refilling napkins but came over to give a suggestions on the salsa bar. Burritos - the Super size was tricky super in that it was a large meat filled burrito with guacamole and sour cream. A. Slightly spicy enchilada sauce accompanied the Mojado burrito. The Al Pastor burrito had large chunks of fire crisped pork surrounded by rice beans onions guacamole and sour cream. Both were big and tasty. Other - We got a variety of tacos (lengua, fish, shrimp) and the daily special taquitos. All were delicious and freshly made. Overall - A great stop off of the 99 and will have to come back to try their other seafood specials and Molcajetes. read more

The place is very clean and the employees were very polite asking me how my meal was and if there was anything else they could do for me.
