Best steak fajitas I have ever had! Just passing through and ate here on the recommendation of the hotel clerk. Good fresh grilled steak with red peppers and onions and all the usual toppings on a side plate. HUGE serving! Easily enough for two. The place was jammed at 6 pm on Saturday night but we sat right down and had our sizzling platters in front of us inside of 20 minutes. El Caporal is our favorite Mexican Restaurant! In fact, we have been coming here for years! Great food, drinks, and people. The atmosphere is wonderful! Very clean restaurant and great service. My favorite item to eat is the El Caporal Fajita and Fajita Quesadilla with steak! They also have great chips and salsa...the very best! Burley is somewhat of a desert when it comes to healthy food options, especially if you're a vegetarian. We ended up eating at El Caporal. Clean place. Good service and food. Mexican beer on tap. Will eat there again when we come back to Burley -- not that there are many decent options. read more

We are regulars at the Burley El Cap and it is the only Mexican restaurant we will eat at. We've tried others from Idaho falls to Boise and this one is the best. I grew up eating the authentic traditional Mexican food from Los Cinco Puntos in Los Angeles and this place is the closest I've come to that ( besides making my own) since moving to Idaho 21 years ago. We weren't big fans. Traditional mexican fare, beans, rice, plus your wrap of choice. Our tab came to $33 for our family of 5, but that was because their special was $.99 kid's meals. Overall it was average service and if you like traditional mexican fare you may enjoy. My enchiladas were mediocre with little flavor. My wife's Taco Salad was with white meat chicken, which was unseasoned and had a big bone in it. Not too impressive. I usually judge a mexican restaurant by their chips, which here were standard chips warmed up. I'd put this place similar to a Azteca, Las Margaritas, etc. They are all the same to me. read more

I've never written a review, but the meal my wife and I had at El Caporal has motivated me to write this. This was by far the worst meal either of us have ever had in a restaurant. We both ordered the Burro Jalisco, one of the high end burritos. First, it did not come as advertised. Filling lacked the beans and cheese that were indicated. Only the meat and rice. And there was no "burrito sauce" topping. This in itself made for a very bland dish. And the rice itself was very mushy, like it had been cooking for a long while. My wife ordered the (ground) beef for her filling. Her first reaction was the beef tasted "off". A very odd flavor for a Mexican entree. I ordered the chicken. Absolutely no flavor and very soggy--like it had been sitting in liquid for a long time with no effort to drain it. No flavor, poor textures and not as described in the menu. Very disappointing meal. Our waitress brought us a to-go box, which we said we didn't want. Since my wife had left almost all of the burrito, one would think the waitress would ask if there was anything wrong--nothing. And when we left she was at the hostess station and avoided even looking at us. Embarrassed? Good points? Nice selection of Mexican beers on draught. read more

From living outside of Idaho most of my life I've eaten at many great places, this is the only great place in Burley. The customer service is great! The portions of the meal are so generous and filling. The update is amazing, my wife and I are mostly homebody's so you can also call an order in and pick it up usually in 15 min which is great when you want something fast but really good! read more

First off, the service was good. As for the food it was not that great. Maybe we ordered wrong but I was expecting the food to be much better. The chef person needs to make some changes to the recipes. The salsa that comes with the chips & salsa was super hot. I like hot salsa but to an average person it would be over board. Next we got the appetizer Chicken Nachos. The chicken had no season. It was just dry boring chicken. It like they just threw a chicken in the oven and backed it. not very tasty. Next we got two combination plates --- chimichanga & enchilada. The chimichanga was soft like a burrito; not crispy and the ground beef was like a mush with taco flavoring. Not very good. The enchilada was the same boring chicken. My wife got the enchilada shredded beef and the tamale pork. The shredded beef had way too much taco seasoning stuff on it, tasted gross. The pork tamale was ok. The food was fresh nothing rotted just they need new recipes. read more

Ate here while staying at Best Western (walking distance). Food was great, atmosphere quiet, and staff friendly. They start you out with chips, salsa and beans. I had the Carne Asade, and it was good. My family enjoyed their chicken enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, and burrito as well. Well priced. read more

Very large portion sizes for the food, got a 32 oz. Beer for only $6. Service was excellent, with a big thank you to Cassie who served us, and we got a complimentary dessert as well. Decent. The food is standard Mexican. Nothing over the top. The portions are generous however. The combo meals are a pretty good deal and come out piping hot. The service was slow however. Our table was checked on once throughout the entire meal and I had to flag another waitress for boxes. The food is decent and the service could be a lot more attentive.
