So worth it! Our first attempt at breakfast here was a fail, since the crowd outside waiting was such a deterrent. We took one look and decided to try again the next day, but get there earlier. Yup, get there early. The next attempt, we got there a few minutes before it was scheduled to open and we were the second party in line. Little did we know, it was actually a holiday and they were opening half an hour later. Oh well. We beat the huge rush of people that came right when it opened. Upon entering, you feel like you're under dressed. The waiter welcomes you at the door and takes you right to your table. It was such a beautiful restaurant. Traditional decor, but not dated. White table cloths and napkins. You get the idea. Breakfast started with an offering of traditional Mexican breads. We made the mistake of passing on the concha. Don't make that same mistake. It's what their known for so take a few and enjoy the fresh cream. Just about every table had it. We eventually had a basket of bread with our breakfast, but we should've went straight for the concha and cream. Next was the hot chocolate. So good. It was poured right at our table and was amazing. So good with the bread For breakfast, I had the omelette with some kind of meat. I think it was steak. It was the perfect portion for me to not feel incredibly stuffed but totally satisfied. So good. My hubby had the lengua, and that too was so tasty. I don't think there was anything we didn't like here. The whole place is beautiful. Even the bathrooms were worth taking a look at. The restaurant is huge so even if there is a long line outside, I'd suggest sticking it out. read more

What can I say other than this is one of my favorite breakfast / brunch places ever! It is a pretty popular place so there may be a wait but it is definitely worth it. The service is speedy and people are nice. I think you can make reservations beforehand but I never have and the max I ever waited as 30 minutes. The conchas and the hot chocolate with the nata are must haves! All of their conchas are delicious and make sure to dip a piece into the nata (you have to order it) for an incredible experience. That with the hot chocolate brings brings me back to my Abuelita's house. I have also had a few of the egg dishes and the flautas here which are very tasty and go real well after the sweet start to your breakfast. Portions are very generous so it's sometimes a bit hard to not over order and end up with several food babies. The mango juice is my favorite of the juices very fresh and totally natural. read more

Acudí a El Cardenal en San Ángel a celebrar mi cumpleaños, pedí puerco con verdolagas. Me fue servido muy duro, sin cocinar completamente. Otra persona en la mesa pidió chamorro en cual también esta sin cocer completamente. Se le aviso al mesero y nada mas dijo ok le aviso al cocinero. Jamás hubo intención de ofrecer otro platillo. La siguiente mañana experimente mucha diarrea, 5 veces en una hora. Fui al medico y me dijo el doctor que debido a que no comí nada después del restaurant la infección intestinal se debió a carne de puerco contaminada. Me comunique con un capitán quien no resolvió nada, días después hable con en gerente y trato de lavarse las manos. Prometió llamarme y nunca lo hizo. Quien contrata esos gerentes. This was just WOW! From the food to the atmosphere is was absolutely amazing! You would think not too much of a restaurant at a hotel but this restaurant is at a Hilton Hotel! That alone should tell you to absolutely stop here for breakfast! Try and be here by 830am because any time after that you will be waiting with the other 100 people in the lobby. While in Mexico City we had breakfast here 3 times because we couldnt get away from. Went to other places and every other day came back here! They put warm freshly made birote (bread) on your table with nata (cream cheese) and just for that, this is a 5 star stop! It doesnt stop there, the cafe de la hoya and the delicious breakfast was an absolute perfect morning stop every time! We are going back next month and we will stop here! read more

Huge fan of El Cardenal!! I have never had a bad meal here! This location in particular is my go-to for breakfast/brunch. They have a great variety and they seem to please everyone (from vegetarian options to meat lover). I always check the "chef recommendations" page and usually order from there. Their hot chocolate is a must try along with their bolillos and a side of nata. Service is always impeccable and their prices are reasonable. This place is a very traditional Mexican breakfast locale, although they have opened several branches which are more modern. The nata (sweet cold cream) with the conchas (a pastry) is amazing. The place is always packed but they're service is effective so the tables move along quickly. Lunchtime is good too. The best dishes is a simple "molcajete" with green tomatoe sauce, avocado and fresh cheese that can be eaten with fresh baked tortillas. For an entree it's best to stick with the simpler dishes. The salmon or tuna fillet with mash potatoes and vegetables is delicious. The more Mexican dishes are something of a letdown. read more
