Wow I love this restaurant. The decor, service and food all 5 stars. I was in Brenham on business and craving good Mexican food. The first place I went to just gave me a bad vibe so I jumped back on Yelp and found El Charro T...so glad I did. They were packed inside and on the huge deck outside but I found a seat inside and was quickly brought fresh made chips and maybe the best salsa I've ever tasted...I went through two bowls. The owner (I think) came by to check on me twice. Everyone was very nice and the service was on point. I had the Chili Relleno and it was served in some of that wonderful salsa and covered in cheese. It was really big and extremely good as were the beans, rice and guacamole...all obviously made from scratch and very fresh. I can't wait to go back. read more

EL Charro T... the T must stand for totallyawesome! Hidden gem just outside Brenham, and it's awesome! Who knew? Ate here several times for lunch, always fast & hot. Great friendly service, cute interior, great lunch specials @ even greater prices. Uhhh, what's not to like. Let's talk about the salsa for a second... this is where the rubber hits the road at any Mexican restaurant. And this salsa has off road tires driving straight to flavortown. Wow wow wow! This place. Im not a big fan of mexican food, but definitely worth it. If you are near brenham you have to try it. I got the "pollo frito" which is basically chicken breast fried with rice and beans, and my husband got the "alambres". Great taste and presentation. We are local and love Mexican food but we have not been here in a few years. So we decided to try El Charro T again tonight everything was amazing the lettuce tomatoes and chilies were very fresh. We had a couple of the combo plates and margaritas. Service and food was very fresh and amazing. This place is about half the price of los Cabos which I think is very overrated since they jacked up their prices. I recommend trying El Charro T. You won't regret it! read more

Pablo formerly of Las Fuentes is running the show. The food is awesome! Karaoke on the weekends. Excellent margaritas and mixed drinks. Fajitas are excellent. Fish tacos are ok but get some lime. They need more seasoning and are served dry with tomatoes and lettuce on the side. Wanted cabbage and New awesome outside playground. They need to update the bathrooms but all in all, very pleased. We stopped by on a whim with a group of seven including one teen and two kids. We all really enjoyed our food and margs. The large covered wrap-around porch seating area looked inviting (we sat inside). The sizable shaded grounds includes a small playground and lots of running room. Stopped in to El Charro T on 5/4/2019 with 4 guests. The waiter was Hugo. It took him over 10 minutes to greet and take drink orders. Considering this was Cinco de Mayo, the restaurant only had 4 tables with guests at 6:45 PM. Once the drink order was taken, we waited about 15 minutes for 2 waters, 2 ice teas and 1 margarita. The tea was likened to colored water and the margarita was sent back. The flavor was horrible. Dinner took almost 35 minutes for 4 dishes. 3 plates of enchiladas and 1 plate of 2 tacos. The enchiladas were "alright", nothing noteworthy. The highlight of the entire dinner were the 2 little children who wandered around the entire places yelling, screaming, and crying. It was determined that they belonged to the owners or the family in charge as they followed them everywhere. Between bad service, terrible tea, and margaritas that would make a rookie bartender cringe, I'd consider Yelping another mexican restaurant in town. read more

LOVE this restaurant. I am a pretty impatient person and almost got really frustrated (hangry) due to the tad-bit longer wait, BUT when we got our food it was pretty good! And the sweet cook/ owner made me forget the wait. This lady truly cares about how her food comes out. I come here pretty often when I just feel like hanging out and eating/ talking and I am not in a huge rush. I always love the charro beans.. great flavor. Good burritos and margaritas. This place is a little hard to find but it's a great stop on the way to Houston from Austin. It's on 290 just like a mile or less before 290 makes the right turn just before it hits Brenham. It has a non-lit billboard-type sign (though smaller) and the restaurant sits back off the road a bit... easy to miss... Cool place, really good salsa (the kind they serve still warm from roasting), friendly staff and my taco a la carte was good. I'd try it again! read more

Warm salsa was a hit. Service was very good. The iced tea tasted like real tea, not watered down version often served. The stuffed avacado my friend had looked better than my sour cream enchiladas, despite the fact that I cleaned my plate. As I believe one reviewer stated, there's not a ton of choices out this way, but El Charro is a solid, A-OK experience. We were making the drive from outside of Houston to Austin and it was a pretty chilly day with the temperature still dropping. We stopped in for dinner. We were seated right away and given chips and salsa. Food came out piping hot (ok, I so rarely take people seriously when they say "the plate is hot" but yeow, heed their warning!) and tasting very good. The margaritas were tasty and plentiful. Not a knock-your-socks off meal, but sometimes you're just looking for comfort and good and something everyone can enjoy. Lovely looking patio seating out front (if it hadn't been freezing, we would have undoubtedly sat there), lots of parking. Service was a little on the slow side after we had our food (we asked for our check, but never got it. Finally got up and went to the bar and asked to pay out). I'd definitely return. read more

Nothing but good things about this place! The restaurant has been in Brennan for years but was recently bought out and has amazing new owners! The whole menu is different from what it was before. The staff is attentive the restaurant is clean and food is great! The owner is always there and makes sure to stop by to talk to the guest and see how they are doing. All in all 5 stars! Food was average. Margarita was the worst margarita I've ever had. To top it off hostess/waitress/cook/bartender/cashier conveniently didn't ask if I wanted the small or large so she brings me large and I only realize this when it's time to pay. I questioned her about it and she said oh no that was the large. Didn't even drink it!!!! Never mind her 4 yr old daughter constantly interrupting our "girl" time!!! We're new to the area, and so far tried all but 5 restaurants. We were pretty disappointed in this one. The meat tasted old, I think their soda fountain was off a bit. Our waiter was incredible though, prompt, funny, really silly with our daughter. We will go again soon to see if they were just having an off night in the kitchen. read more

There are not a lot of dining options on this part of 290. This is a very good choice. The patio is vey nice and there is a yard where the kids can run around. Mediocrity at its best. Found this joint on the way to Houston, here again the next day on the way back to Austin. I'm not sure if the bloody Mary has celery or a huge stalk of cilantro in it, with a weak shot and a bunch of v8. Fuckit. The food is ok, and the patio has a shit-ton of flies. Sad part is I'm probly gonna come back cuz it's like dining in my shitty home of El Paso. Besides the flies this patio ain't so bad, and the long haired server be pretty cool. Great Tex-Mex. I'm not a fan of overly "gringo-fied" Mexican, and I was pleased with what I was served at El Charro. Salsa is served warm and slightly spicy, great tasting flour tortillas, delicious margaritas-- had mine on the rocks. They aren't afraid of cilantro or cumin. Had the stuffed avocado and was pleased. Definitely will return when I'm back in the area. read more
