My family & I stopped by this Mexican restaurant, famous for their tamales, on our way back home to Chicago. My husband had the tacos Al pastor and he said they were pretty tasty. Sabroso! My son had the tacos de carne asada & he also really enjoyed them. I had the pollo en mole, which was slightly spicy but had a rich, velvety, layered taste that rivaled my Mexican mother-in-law's! (I can safely say this as she never goes on Yelp!) Service was fast, friendly and inviting, making us feel like well known regulars. We'll def be back next time we make a trek down south. read more

I was so impressed the first time I went back and picked up pork tamales for my wife to try and I got a Chile Relleno. The Chile Relleno had the perfect light batter and was stuffed with an amazing amount of melted white cheese and covered with a red sauce. Really disappointed in these reviews because they give this place a low rating when it doesn't deserve that at all. This is a mom and pop shop and if you want good food you need to pay for it. $5 for an elote isn't the worst we've seen... try $10 for ONE where we live. And it was delicious. We should've got three. The gorditas were authentic and absolutely delicious. This place is authentic, they are doing a great job and Berea is soooo lucky to have them. We tried a place outside of Berea in Richmond and paid restaurant pricing and not even close. Again, rather my money go local and this place is the place to go. We will be back one more time before we leave as we are here on vacation. Side note: biracial family here who knows Mexican food. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our lunch at this small Mexican restaurant. I had the loaded chicken tamales with mole sauce and they were excellent. They were topped by slices of avocado, which was particularly tasty, and served with rice and beans. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas and got a huge oval platter of fajitas (grilled chicken, green pepper and onion) plus the fajita "accessories" - tortillas, etc. The chicken in both the tamales and the fajitas was very flavorful. This is best traditional Hispanic food we've had in a very long time. Nothing zipped out of gallon cans in here. We had the Tamale platter and the presentation was perfect. We had a different sauce on each tamale and both were traditionally done. Contrary to what you might read in these posts, i thought the price was fair and the food good and plenty. This is a very tiny but very charming little restaurant. There is limited seating and a small menu. Order at the counter, grab your drink from the cooler and your food will be delivered to the table. I ordered tacos dorados and a corn cup. The corn was great and the portion was large. The tacos dorados were 6 tiny rolled tacos filled with chicken and topped with a small amount of sour cream and shredded lettuce. The taco shells were perfectly fried and crispy but the chicken inside was dry and totally unseasoned chicken breast. I would guess it was boiled. If the chicken had been seasoned and juicy, the tacos would have been delicious with the mild green sauce. Lunch was over $18 which was pretty steep considering the amount of food. I will wait a while but I will try this place again. It was very charming and I hope figure out the preparation and seasoning of the chicken.
