I've been going to El Chilito for many years. I moved out of the area, so just came back in town to have lunch, and I wasn't disappointed. My go to lunch is 3 Pastor street tacos. They have the simplicity that makes the well-packed meat stand out. The flavor is excellent, and they double wrap the tortilla, so the insides don't spill through. I really like the red hot sauce. It's hot but doesn't melt your face and adds a nice flavor. My wife got the vegetarian burrito. She said it was good but not spectacular. The service was great. Very friendly and helpful. There's not a lot of places to sit inside, so it's usually best to get it to go. Overall, a great place to get real Mexican food at a reasonable price. read more

Ok, so this looks like an old diner, but instead of hamburgers you have delicious and plentiful Mexican food. I ordered the cheese enchiladas, and they were saucy and so full cheese. It was so delicious. And those flour tortillas, so soft so yummy. Prices were great, no arguments there, and ate my meal over 3 meals because there was so much. The service was excellent, there are a few tables and chairs inside but not many. There are more tables outside, but be prepared for loud road noises due to a busy road. We will be back. read more

The first thing I noticed was the smell. The smell of the cooking meats mingle with the aroma of roasting vegetables in a way that makes your mouth happy it's next! I had the carne asada plate, rice and beans, tortilla, guacamole, rice and salad. It was like getting a plate of beef burnt ends, without the bbq sauce. Soft crispy-cornered pieces of deliciousness. They are cooking it fresh so preparation takes a minute but it's well worth the wait. Besides, the people were so nice and the food so good, I didn't mind the wait. read more

good food, but they don't stay open until their hours. there's been SEVERAL occasions where i call within the hour it closes, or even an hour before that, and they don't pick up. i've even come in to the restaurant and they were packed up and gone. don't have your hours till 7 if you're going to be closed before then. fix your damn hours gang i'm hungry. read more

We stopped on our way thru Canby and grabbed lunch to go. I ordered the chicken taquitos and we ordered our son a super burrito. The taquitos didn't have a lot of flavor and the super burrito was enough to feed multiple people. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and they had a constant flow of people coming in and out to either order or pick up food. I will say that everyone was ordering plates of street tacos which I didn't see on the menu but looked amazing. We will definitely go back to try the street tacos read more

This place was amazing and relatively cheap. Highly suggest the fajitas. Enchiladas were good. Service was a bit slow so call ahead and get to go. Only thing they should add is some hot sauce or chips and salsa. I'm sure they'd make it amazing but probably helps keep prices low. I'm sad I didn't see the Camerones a La diabla when I ordered. I even tipped $5. 30m later, sitting outside, ppl who ordered after me got their food. Thankfully, I got a soda and the sugar helped. I told a family sitting outside, to get my food, and eat it. I have since come back a few times for the breakfast burrito. Still loaded, still a good price, but they could elevate this "dish" soooo much more with the addition of a simple ingredient: salt. Last couple times I've went the cooks seem to forget or disregard the importance of salt. Took my to go order home today, and adding just a pinch of salt made it amazing. I'll keep coming back, this place is legit, just don't forget to season your food! Just a little constructive criticism. Thank you. oh and another thing: don't let Google maps fool you. I ordered two burritos and two tamales. It took 25 minutes to get my order. I could hear the tamales being microwaved. To be fair, my wife said she enjoyed the tamales, that was the only positive. I spent two days sick from this food with intestinal issues, from what I am guessing was undercooked pork. Bay the way, there were handfuls of chopped raw onion in the chile relleno, used as a filler, making it inedible. read more

El Chilito is great. I eat there often enough that when I call in an order, they know me by name based on what I order (usually around 10-12 tacos, add a little cheese and a small side of rice and beans). My favorites are the carne asada and carnitas tacos. All food is fresh and tastes great. They have red and green sauce (I like the red and my wife likes the verde). The carne asada is not fatty, and usually trimmed very well, but is still soft and full of flavor. Their rice is very good. It is fluffy and has a very nice, light flavor that can be almost addicting. The refried pinto beans are very creamy and go well with the rice. I have heard the burritos are also very good, but have not tried one myself; I like the tacos so much it is hard to order anything else. El Chilito is one of my favorite taco places in the area and I would definitely recommend it. read more

I used to love this place, but it's not as good as it used to be. The salsa is no longer self-serve, probably because of covid, which is fine. The bad is that sometimes I order and it's okay, other times it's bland, very inconsistent. Also, they increased their prices- understandable. The workers are so nice. I have not been here for over 7 years since I moved away. I miss the food. My two favorites are the Machaca for breakfast and the Chile Rellenos. I have to say that it do not disappoint. The hand made chille rellenos were amazing full of cheese and well seasoned. I also had a carne asada sope. Their carne asada (beef steak) was delicious. El Chilito is one of those community restaurants where you walk in, they recognize you, smile and give you the very best service. Most of us get "to go" food (even before the C virus), because it's a small place, with three or four barstools at the counter and just a few tables inside, with picnic tables outside. Here's what we like: shredded beef in anything they make. Husband loves the chimichangas. I often get chile rellenos. As is with most Mexican food restaurants, you will get generous portions of beans and rice, but the main dish is delicious. I always get little take-away containers of my favorite salsas and sauces, which are over on the left side of the counter and made fresh. Make sure you take a look at the menu board on the wall behind the counter and try to sample some different things when you go. Did somebody say taco! This tiny little Mexican spot serves up some real deal tacos with hand made tortillas. The hard shell tacos are where it's at for me. We come here every year for the past 4 years when we are in the area to visit the Swan Island Dahlia Festival. Each year, the food here is incredible and the folks working are just as nice as can be. It doesn't matter what time of day you show up, they're going to be busy because the food is so great. But don't worry, they're also super speedy. This is a great take out place, but today we ate our lunch here at the counter. I like it better as a take out place or if I sit outside at one of the two tables. Inside felt claustrophobic to me, between the loud music and customers lining up behind us. I won't do that again. Think of the place as an elaborate food cart, if that helps you get beyond that lack of ambience. The food is good, but the refries are especially good. The fish tacos are close to being good but are too breaded and don't taste like fresh fish. I assume the fillets are frozen. For $2, it's not a bad fish taco. The rice is also noteworthy. My son loved the burrito mojado and the flavorful, heatless sauce. I enjoyed the complimentary pickled carrots with a bit of heat. The service is efficient and friendly. The one person at the counter does a lot of multi-tasking well, even switching between Spanish and English for customers. Today the counter person was especially kind to two young boys who had walked here from nearby apartments for food to go. She helped them understand their change and showed them how to carry the food so it remained in tact. She was busy but confident and friendly. We made a quick trip to Canby to pick up a marketplace purchase and stopped in on the recommendation of the Dutch Bros staff. This was the best food recommendation we've ever gotten.
