We booked an all inclusive vacation for 4 and paid for the insurance. However, 15 days before, we had a death in the family and wanted to back out. Turns out, the insurance is only good up to 30 days in advance, which is ridiculous. Because before 30 days, you could easily reschedule things. They promised that they would refund if we sent a photocopy of the Death Certificate to prove it. We did that and still they did not refund the money as promised. Instead they insisted we take another equal vacation within 12 months. In which time they could sit on our payment? Then, gain the interest instead of us having it in our bank account -when we have many funeral expenses at the same time. We could have sold it to someone else.If we knew there were going to shell game us like this...These are not nice people. read more

Went to go eat at their buffet restaurant since I remember it being delicious at one point - passed on the buffet since it looked like cafeteria food and one person in our party tried it and hated the taste of it. A la carte wasn't better , we waited an hour for honestly one of the worst foods I've had in Mexico - ordered a club sandwich which was the best good item out of all of it . El cid combination is so dry and the rice and beans had no flavor. Tacos gobernador hard pass as well . People are suckered so easily. These guys just prey on 'all day suckers'. My wife attended the timeshare for el did marina. We stayed at el cid Moro beach in a 1 bedroom for a little over $300 on interval international. They told us interval was not a good place to find deals. AS OWNERS of a few marriotts and owning for 20 years, we just don't buy the BS they try to throw at us. We are ate lunch on them over $60 and collected our gifts for listening to their pointless ranting about how great their product was. They tried to get us to buy into one of their packages and they would take over our Marriott timeshares. Total bAld face lie. All of the packages were astronomically expensive ranging from $125k-$360k. ALL were 20 year deals. BASICALLY these are old folk retirement packages geared for people around 70+. it made sense in that most of the people at marina were elderly. We didn't feel like arguing with them, but the presentation is chalked full of lies and false information. They claim the millionaire club is an inequity based program. All the programs supposedly give you a credit on your maintenance fees each year. They run their entire platform off Expedia pricing. Lots and lots of bad reviews and broken pro with el cid. We can get into these resorts any time we want and pay Pennies on the dollar. We get all the same benefits that these poor saps who are paying over a 100k are getting. It's a complete joke. They also falsely claim to be the #1 retirement vacation package in the world. A couple things to take into consideration. They claim it's a 90 min presentation, but it's really about 150 mins. Secondly, they will offer a discount on their ground level all inclusive package. The food is average at best and the restaurants are difficult to get reservations in. We declined the all inclusive discount simply because they could not answer simple questions about whwts included. It just felt like we would have got screwed in the deal. Moro beach is a nice resort and the kids love it. We would come back on a interval getaway, but never though being a el cid member. Most of the time when it seems to go to be true, it usually is. Carnival Cruises offered a shore excursion to el Cid beach resort, which I happily took. It was an all inclusive package that consisted of access to the beach, two pools, a buffet lunch, and all sorts of drinks. My brother and I first hung around the beach. There were plenty of lounge chairs underneath raffia umbrellas providing excellent shade. Waiters frequently came around to make sure we were well supplied with drinks. A couple of masseuses offered chair massages and the beach vendors were out in full force offering everything from cigars to sunglasses. Two lifeguards were on duty and kept a very watchful eye on the beach. After we swam in the ocean we decided to take a look at the pools. We waited for a couple minutes at the marina when a water taxi came by and ferried us across the marina. Once there we only made it to the first pool as we were cheerily greeted by a waiter who escorted us to a cabana and served us drinks. I loved that pool. It wasn't very deep with a swim up bar on one side and a kiddy pool on the other distinctly marked in different shades of blue. As I lounged in the pool the resort members led a Zumba class on the pool side! If I wasn't being so lazy I would have joined in! Our waiter was fantastic keeping drinks in our hands. It's all inclusive, so be sure to tip if you want them to keep returning. We had our lunch in the dining hall near the beach. It was a buffet style lunch offering an assortment of food - wings, meat for the fajitas, these potato wrap things that were delicious, and coconut desserts. Their guacamole was the best I have ever had and their tortilla chips were made in house! Spectacular! All in all the time at el Cid was marvelous. The staff was super friendly, the beach and pool beautiful, drinks refreshing, and the food was delicious! read more

Why 5 Stars (Disclaimer: only if you don't mind staying at the resort the entire time): 1. Resort is beautiful 2. For the cost that we paid off of "Book it" website it was a steal! 3. Four speciality restaurants and options of buffets. 4. Great customer service. 5. 24 hour room service, and good maid service with no missing property. 6. Drinks were good especially "Miami Vice". Things to keep in mind: 1. Round trip shuttle cost was $50 that we brought from "SuperShuttle" at the airport. 2. There is not much to do around the resort and keep in mind that taxis are expensive. 3. The workers work really hard to make and keep you happy, so tips go a long way. 4. When you get there they will offer you a membership presentation in exchange for a major discount on a tour voucher, if you have the time it's worth doing. They will also offer this at the airport which we did and the tour was delivered as promised. read more

This was our 3rd trip to The El Cid Marina and we have been generally pleased each time. This review only covers the last visit and I was torn between a 3 or a 4 star. As mentioned in other reviews there are several El Cid's in Mazatlan and your allowed to go to any of them. For the most part the Marina has an older crowd (as are we) so the pool isn't full of kids and is much quieter. We were never excited about the food at the Marina, either buffet or ordered from the menu. They now reserve window seats so you will want to go to the concierge to get reservations. On two occasions we were seated at inner tables that didn't seem to have waiters assigned which was irritating, but since there was the buffet we got to eat. We ate once at the steak/suichi restaurant and the fillet mignon was excellent. We also enjoyed the food at the Mexican restaurant, but we thought the Italian was bland. Our package included a van upon arrival which included a very persuasive person to get you to go to the time share presentation. We've been to many of these and generally said no thank, but this time he was so persistent that we gave him his $20 and went to the 90 minute (promised) presentation. We were given a city tour, a bottle of tequila, a $100 resort credit and taxi back to the airport for about 2 hours of our time (which we kept saying no to buying, but they were pretty polite which made it easier to put up with). BTW, the first amount they quote you is to give you sticker shock. The city tour is less than special and I'm pretty sure doesn't cost El Cid anything (or much) since as part of the tour they took us to a jewelry store, a candy shop and a restaurant (Roca Mar). I assume that all give kick-backs to the tour company. But, it was still an enjoyable trip because of our tour guide (whose sister owns the candy shop). We also had an hour to ourselves in downtown. We were able to use only $50 of our resort credit as that paid for our steak dinners (+ 5 pesos). We weren't allowed to use it to buy a bottle of wine at the Italian restaurant (which was annoying). We haven't tried the tequila yet, but were assured it was very good and the taxi back to the airport was painless. read more

Family vacation. Hotel was clean and very nice. Can you believe there are like 8 pools and several restaurants to choose from. The Concha had the best lunch and dinner menu and go to the cascade for breakfast. Alberto at the Concha ROCKS! He was very nice and always on his toes. There wasn't anything he couldn't get prepared by the staff. Outside the hotel you are right in the middle of the main street in the tourist area. A short walk or taxi ride to the right and you can find everything you are looking for, as far as shopping and small wares. Room service menu not the best, but if you tell the waiter what you are looking for they are happy to accommodate! All in all a great place to stay. Staff is wonderful and helpful read more

My sister is a member of Wyndham Vacations and they have an arrangement with El Cid Resorts, so she let me use her points to stay here for about 4 days in March. I have to say, I really had a great time. Great staff, clean spacious rooms, amazing views, terrific buffet, live music all day, and easy checkin/out process. The best thing about the resort is the location; on the beach, in the middle of the strip so that everything you want is all around you. And since its on the beach and has several gorgeous pools, the atmosphere is super-relaxing. If you get bored, they have activities all day, not to mention a huge sports complex across the street. No exercise room though. There's a mall connecting the resort, restaurant, coffee house, wifi, and 24-hour concierge. Only down-side is that you have to endure the time-share presentation, which wasn't the worst considering the rep was such a nice guy. Also, you may find a surprise fee in your bill, but nearly every resort has a small resort fee, be prepared. Any other disappointments were about Mexico in general. I wouldn't hesitate staying here again, Its the best of Mazatlan. read more

The staff is so friendly and accommodating here. The food is really good, especially at El Alcazar, and La Concha. The activities staff are so wonderful! Thank you Emilio, Frank, Alison, Rubin, Hiram, Leo and Kevin for making blackjack, crafts, and games so fun. Cooking classes are great and I've learned so many variations on traditional dishes. And my favourite pool side server, Ramon, who kept me nice and refreshed with cold drinks! The only thing that I can say that needs improvement is some softer beds, but I guess it's the Princess and the Pea syndrome ;-). read more

Discrimination against children is not ok. My son is 11 years old and is not allowed to use a jacuzzi because it's for grownups only. Lol ridiculous! I was now sent from main hotel to the club house, only to have my time wasted and my baby still didn't get to enjoy the jacuzzi. This place is full of discrimination and lying. Just returned from one week at El CID Castillo beach resort with mixed feelings. This could very easily be a 5 star resort! All inclusive seems to have many levels here and can become confusing and frustrating. Our level included dinner at four of the specialty restaurants, Mexican at El Moro next door, Argentina and Japanese at the Granada across the street and Italian and buffet in Castillo resort. The locations for daily meals changed and was listed on the daily newsletter. Reservations are needed for specialty restaurants even though we were told only 6 pm was available and were only two other couples there with us till 7:3O one night! The food in general varied in quality from place and day, but was average at its worst. You are allowed to use Castilla and Moro main pools but not the adult pool at El Moro? The liquor served for our level was supposedly domestic only which meant no recognizable labels! The next level of all inclusive was $49 per person per day extra and gave you 2 more restaurants and premium liquor- not much of an advantage for the price. The resort it self was well kept but a little dated and did not have much in the way of evening entertainment. The show everyday was at 7:30. Some nights there was live music. The pools were wonderful and had swim up bars unfortunately, they let the kids sit there! Many people saved chairs from early morning even though there was a sign on each chair saying it wasn't allowed. No one from resort enforced this till last day. The staff was very pleasant and tried to be helpful but did not always speak much English. Not sure if I would go there again unless the price was too good to pass up with a higher level of all inclusive! read more

Many, many times over the last weeks and months we have spoken with, written to, and sent tracked letters to, various people who have not been able or willing to be truthful and take responsibility for the lies, misrepresentations, omissions of the salesmen who induced us to make this purchase. Stories have changed the further away we got from the date of purchase. The free cruise for six to Hawaii? Not true. We had agreed to the port fees and taxes, yes. What we didn't agree to was a discounted cruise. Sales also promised us a free cruise for two for the next 20 years. That, too, turned out to be nothing but a sales pitch with the sole objective to get us to close the deal. There was a window to cancel and get a full refund. Then there was a window for a 25% refund. Now all windows are closed and there is no possibility of cancellation. Or a full refund, you are telling us. You know all these things because we have told you repeatedly the lies we found out about, and yet are giving us a hard time about canceling. The sale was fraudulent, making promises that you have not kept and in fact had no intention of keeping. You are dishonest and lie about the benefits available to owners. We don't imagine that we are the only ones to have been scammed by you in the past. The sale was done fraudulently and as such is invalid. read more

I'd like to rate this place higher but all inclusive does not mean all inclusive. El Cid has several properties in the Mazatlan area. But your all inclusive may not be included at the other properties. Overall, the staff was super helpful and very nice. The amenities were quite nice as well. The beds and the linens were not up to the standards of a resort. If you are with kids I would book one of the two towers they have. If you want quiet then I would suggest the Marina location. Again, I am on the fence about this place. The golf course was quite nice but bring extra cash as your all inclusive does not include the bar at the resort's golf course. My wife and I are on the fence if we will go back again. So good enough to consider a second visit but make sure you know what your package includes and does not include when you go. Oh and if you are at the pool at the Marina location ask for Hector, he is by far the best waiter by the pool. And Jesus who was the coordinator for golf was also extremely helpful. read more

I stayed at this hotel 7 years ago while I was on a family vacation in Mazatlan. I stayed at a suite. It had 2 bedrooms and a fold out bed perfect for a big family. It had a wonderful view of the beach and the pool. The pool was really nice and the slide was fun! The pool service was nice! It has a buffet which the food was really awesome!!! This is a nice resort. I highly recommend this resort if you're staying in Mazatlan! It's a nice resort. The maid service was great at keeping the room nice and clean for guests! read more
