Xecue Winery This was our first stop of the day, and honestly... it was just meh. ‍ We did the classic 5-wine tasting because we were on a mission to hit at least one more spot before dinner - priorities, you know. The wines were good. My friend fell in love with the first one, a white whose name apparently meant LOVE in the local dialect. Very on brand for her. ‍ We also tried their cheese breads - they had savoury and sweet options. I was team savoury while my friend was all about the sweet because balance, right? First thing when I came in I was surrounded by 10 untrained dogs. I was wearing a brand new expensive dress, that the dogs chewed apart. Trying to get them off of me was not easy and nobody who worked there seemed to care. I got them off and walked away- and they bit my calf so hard that it bled. They were cute and I love dogs- but not great for a fancy place. The entire time they came over to the table and begged for food and jumped up on me. Location was gorgeous and wine was pretty good- tasting was expensive and they poured enough for one sip only. The food was great, but also expensive for such small portions. You'd think after the dogs making me bleed there'd be some generous pours or something- but nope! Some of the tastings were under a single ounce. Overall gorgeous location and great tasting wine and food- but won't be returning due to the outrageously small portions, expensive price, and dining experience with biting and begging dogs. read more

Went here on a Wednesday afternoon, it was quiet and peaceful. By the time we left we were the only customers in there. Views were awesome. We both had the Kiliwa Tasting (5 young wines) - See menu photos for wine descriptions. I don't usually love rosè, but this one was so awesome I even bought two bottles to bring home. Vinos Xecue - enchanting & unforgettable We were looking for a new vineyard to try along the Wine Route at Valle de Guadalupe and found Vino Xucue was highly rated and looked lovely with a fully 360 degree experience we were looking for: and we were not disappointed. Martin was our sommelier and he took incredible care of us, speaking English so that most of our group could follow along. We ordered small bites that were simply indulgent: each bite was hand crafted onsite and tasted phenomenal. We weren't rushed and took our time enjoying the 5-lable tasting. We wandered the grounds and soaked in the incredible scenery along the valley, the rolling hills filled with vineyards and punctuated with lavender to make the whole experience something out of a storybook. Martin took the time to help some in our party who had never before done a tasting, which was really helpful for me (not a novice but nowhere close to a pro). The wines were delicious, made all the more flavorful as learned the notes beforehand so our palates could get the cheat code. Even though there are so many wineries left to discover on The Wine Route in Ensenada, we would definitely return to Vino Xecue because the experience was simply unforgettable. read more

Stop #2, so we don't have alot to compare... Queso fundito was good...chorizo was flavorful and the jalapeños added a nice crunch and slight heat. Corn and flour tortillas were good! Ordered the brownie and waited 40 minutes for it...in that amount of time we imagined a fresh warm brownie, but received a tough cold one...wouldn't recommend it. Here in August to 2024 places that amazing view overlooking the valley and the service is really really good. We had Chardonnay wine that was made at this winery and both types were really good and reasonable prices. Server was super knowledgeable. Definitely recommend this for a one hour stop. What a wonderful place to just relax in a comfy chair and listen to the breeze while having a wine tasting experience. They do not have other alcoholic drinks but sodas and waters. So glad we unexpectedly came across this place. It's absolutely beautiful with so much history behind it! We walked in & unfortunately couldn't get seated due to not having reservations, however, they had open outdoor seating (first come first serve). I really wish they had heat lamps because it got pretty chilly but luckily, they ended up seating us inside due to "cancelled reservations" & my grandma's continuous nagging & bugging for a table lol. Bf & I got into Valle de Guadalupe a little late on the first day, but we wanted to catch the sunset somewhere nearby before closing time. Xecue provided just the right scenery and set the bar pretty high for excellent wine! We did a tasting of 5, each with unique flavors, and I must say I was impressed with all of them! It's been over 15 years since I last came to this region and recall the wine here being on the acidic side, but the variety at Xecue was smooth and well balanced. The Cheese Board & Charcuterie plate was perfect too! Their local cheese is to die for! Everyone here was so nice and informative about the vino and even made recommendations on other vinícolas to visit! We had such a lovely afternoon at Xecue, I can't wait to recommend this establishment to friends and family! Add this winery to your list when you visit the Valle. Also - don't be like me and try to pronounce Xecue like it reads. It's pronounced "Checué". The winery name and most of their wines are based off of The dialect Kiliwa, which is a Yuman language spoken in Baja California, in the far northwest of Mexico. I loved the large sliding glass doors facing the vines and the Valle, it offered a lovely transition for indoor and outdoor. There was plenty of seating for both options, which was helpful on this day with weather that decided to rain every 30 min. We chose the platinum wine tasting, which was 5 red wine tastings for $20. I enjoy bold reds, which some wineries in Guadalupe do not offer, so I was pleased with Xecue's Malbec, Cabernet, and Reserve wine. We also ordered the cheese plate which offered a variety of 6+ cheeses and meats. Other items on their menu looked promising, but we were saving ourselves for lobster in Puerto Nuevo after wine tasting. The owner, Jose Luis, visited with us a handful of times during our 2 hour visit. He was so welcoming to us bringing our dog with us on our visit, which made our experience that much more personal. Rose' and cheese plates all day, please. Xecue far exceeded our expectations. It's off the road in the Valle and takes a minute to navigate through the dirt road and bumps, but is so rewarding once you arrive. We ordered a flight and sat in the most comfortable wooden chairs out back with views that never seemed to end. We planned on staying an hour but 4-hours later, a few flights, a cheese platter or three and a few bottles of rose, we were happy as pigs and enjoying the sunset, the server, those around us and the conversation. The rose was very nice and like a sweeter blush. The cheese and meat platter was enormous and filled with really fine flavors and light cheeses that went well with the meat, crackers and pesto. They take credit card and will convert pesos to dollars if needed. And you'll get to keep your glass if you'd like as well. read more

They have a deck you can sit out on and enjoy the view, however it was raining when I visited. My wife and I will definitely visit this place again. This place has a great esthetic when you drive up but that is about where it ends. We arrived took some cute photos outside and then went inside. We had made reservations in advanced but there was no one greeting at the door. It wasn't until our driver came inside and flagged someone down that we got seated. We were seated in some random chairs outside which I thought was interesting since in my reservation I specified we would be wine tasting and eating. It was hard to eat dinner and hold our wine glass from the chairs they put us in! The view was average compared to other wineries in the valley that I have visited. The wine was not memorable and perhaps part of that was because of the service/presentation of the wine. I just didn't feel that were given that much info about the wine and the vineyard to connect with the wine in any way. Finally, we ate and the food was fine, but nothing special. Again I have had better food at other wineries. I had looked up wineries on TripAdvisor and Yelp and was expecting more from this place based on the ratings it received from others. read more
