We've been coming to Valle de Guadalupe ("VdG") for about 15 years now, however this was only our second visit to Las Nubes Bodegas y Viñedos. Oscar poured for us this time and we had another wonderful experience. The winery itself sits high up on the hillside on the north side of the valley and affords patrons with amazing views across the vineyards, valley floor, and surrounding mountains. You can sit inside or on their expansive deck with many umbrellas and trellis covered seating areas. Their wines are among our favorites in VdG and the service is excellent. They offer charcuterie boards, sandwiches, oysters, truffled popcorn, cookies, and fruit tarts to pair with your wine selections. Las Nubes was recommended to us and I'm so glad I tried it. We were sat right where we could overlook the vineyard. The view is spectacular. The service was good and the wines were decent. We took a couple bottles home with us. What I really loved was all the dogs walking around greeting people. They're all so calm and friendly. The rose is one of our favorite wines here but we really come for the charcuterie board and the views. Prices are decent considering this is one of the nicer wineries in the Valle. This is one of my favorite vineyards in Valle and a beautiful place to show off to your friends. Their views are breath taking and the wines are tasty/reasonably priced too! I believe they also offer charcuterie and cheese boards but I haven't had any there before. Be sure to reserve ahead of time, although if you let the friendly security guard up front know that you're there to purchase wines I'm sure he would let you in. Pre-pandemic we have been able to show up without making reservation ahead of time, but I would recommend doing so nowadays. read more

Las Nubes Bodegas Y Vineedos was first on our wine tasting tour. We were greeted by a friendly dog and cat and made our way inside to where Carlos greeted us and gave us a great wine tasting. The views are beautiful. The dirt road makes you appreciate your treck up into the hills and its worth it once you see the views. Carlos was amazing. We had a wine tasting that consisted of 1 white cab, 1 chardinay, and 1 red. The views are stunning and there is a glass floor that offers views into the cellar and the wine barrels. The charinday Jaak ( translated to "Wind" was a combination of white zinfendel, Garancha, Carena). It was smooth and I liked it. The red called Seleccion de Barrias had 50% Carrinena and 50% Gamacha (sp?) The white was called KullV mixed of 30% chardinay and 70% savgion blanc. Perfect pairing with seafood. I tasted hints of citrus, grapefruit, green apple, and tropical fruit. This one was my favorite by far. The location has stunning views both at the top where the wine tasting was executed as well as a seperate room below where the tour of the barrels and wine making process were stored! Bathrooms were spacious and felt like a I was at a resort! Plugging in my phone charger and charge up my phone in the bathroom lounge was appreciated! Fun fact: they collect rain water and reuse it to water the vines! I like that! Its eco friendly and sustainable! Thank You Carlos for your hospitality! Would come back again! read more

When I first arrived at the property, I was very impressed with the incredible 300° view of Valle. We were immediately greeted by three individuals with the big smiles that made us feel very welcome to this absolutely gorgeous estate. There is a nice breeze on this hot day that made us feel so cozy and comfortable and glad to be here, we ordered a small charcuterie plate, which was a little bit smaller than small, we also tried different wines. the first one was called stratus, it is the blend of three wine grapes. Granacha 36% Zinfandel 45% and Petit Sirah 18%it was bold, and even though light colored had the taste of a deeper wine. The Nubes Sirah is a bit strong. Very bold. The Petit Sirah 2017 was clean and easy to drink. Nebbiolo 2018 was great with a chocolate dessert. Nimbus is 40%Cab savingon 20%tempranillo 40%merlot was also a good glass of hapiness. Las Nubes brings wine tastings to a whole new level. The service, wine, and ambiance were unbelievable. I don't really like white wines but their Kuiiy was so great I just had to bring a bottle home along with their Petit Sirah. On top of all that, the views of the entire Valle were unbeatable. Absolutely stunning view of the Valle and fantastic selection! We went with the Reserva tasting: Garnacha, Nimbus, Syrah and Petite Sirah. We also got the chance to try Estrarus, a blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Grenache. Our favorites ended up being the Garnacha and Estratus. Las Nubes Bodegas y Vinedos is a large winery that sits high above the valley. This ranks as one of my favorite wineries I've been to in the region (right up there with Lechuza Winery, which is the only spot in the valley as of writing, that has its wine served at the famed French Laundry in Yountville). The quality of the wine at Las Nubes is top-notch, and lacks the saltiness that many of the wines in this region tend to have. The day we visited the entire place was empty (a Monday during January) but I imagine it gets hopping in the summer and during the harvest season. A must-see feature of the tasting room is the glass floor where you can look down into the wine cave and see all the barrels (unless that is, you don't like heights!). In that case, have another glass of wine! read more

It's quite an amazing spot, on top of the hill overlooking the Valley and the wineries. We stopped here for a quick wine tasting at sunset and it was marvelous. We tried a cheese board from an Italian nearby farm with local jam made from plums from the local orchard. We also had some oysters in butter. I have to admit that I rather have them raw. The local wine was ok, not the best I've had but was good with cheese. The view was absolutely stunning and I would go many times back for it! read more

This winery was the busiest out of all of the wineries we went to. But even with the crowd it was one of my favorite ones because they had a Rosé as part of their wine tasting. The wine glasses come with a little ring paper that goes around the stem of the glass so they can check off the wines you've tried. It was a pretty good sized wine tasting list. We ordered a cheese plate here, and they were so good! The little breads with cheese and toppings were nicely displayed and delicious! A good indoor and outdoor seating area. Excellent wine. We did both the reserve tasting and the premium. I liked the reserve wines the best but both were good. You get to keep a very nice Reidel glass if you do the premium tasting. Beautiful tasting room and view. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, except for one young woman who was at the outside bar. But I'm not going to dock a review for one person who may have just been having a bad day. Nice cheese platter you can purchase to help Soak up a little alcohol. Generous wine pours. Make sure you get your reds poured inside because they keep them iced outside and cold red wine doesn't taste good, imho. This is my second visit and I'll be back again. A breezy location when the valley floor is CALIENTE. Their patio area is a great set up if you packed a picnic to enjoy during or after a winery excursion. The wines I tasted were good but their prices are comparably high to other places in El Valle de Guadalupe. No, IMHO the wines are not worth the extra duckets. The tasting room can also use a back window so ventilation can roll right through. I am impressed how young the servers are, and their knowledge of the products being sold. For me, a future picnic stop with a purchase of one bottle to enjoy amongst Amigos. read more

Only reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1 is for the view. Amazing! Too bad I can't say the same for their service. This was my second time there and I was taking some friends and family as this was their first time and I wanted to show them this beautiful location. The moment we got there we asked for a drink menu and also asked if they served food. They said only cheese board. If you wanted an actual meal you had to sit at the other end which was the restaurant area. We were fine there and ordered the cheeseboard. They took a very long time to bring the menu. Eventually they did and we ordered two wine tasting options. Plus mineral and regular water for the minors. They took a long time to bring everything out. We noticed that they were more attentive to the customers with actual bottles on their tables. We had our first glass. It was ok. Waited and waited eventually we caught their attention and got served second tasting. We noticed two dogs in the area and by the tables. Didn't appreciate the dog growling and barking at my daughter because she ate something and she didn't "share." She didn't even notice the dog til it barked and scared the crap out of her and us. Eventually the waitress came around and she was talking to the other 2 tables next to us and even played with the 2 dogs, oh make it 3 since a customer saw the other 2 and figured it was ok to bring his. We signaled her and she gave her back to us and walked away. She preferred to kneel down and play with the dogs. Didn't even wash her hands afterwards. At this point we were upset. It was obvious we were being ignored. I walked to the register and asked for the bill i said I have never been treated so rudely as I had been that day. Do they only offer better service to those that buy bottles? Over an hour and gave us 2 samples and had 2 more to go. Not full glasses maybe 1/4 of a glass per person. Never went back to check if we were done. I had to flag them for the second and ignored when I tried to get the third. I have been to El Valle plenty of times. It's one of my favorite places. I love going to all types of winery's/vineyards. Small ones, big ones, mom and pop or famous known ones. Always had a great experience. Too bad Las Nubes had to ruin it for us this time. Definitely not going back nor recommending. read more

This was the first of two wineries visited as part of a day trip to the Valle de Guadalupe organized by Boca Roja Wine Adventures. The winery is situated at the base of a hill, approachable by a well-maintained dirt road. The ambiance was spectacular with the tasting area serving as a vantage point for the vineyards down below. Even in mid-December the weather cooperated fully to accentuate these views. They even have a very cute winery cat that loved company. Noteworthy about this winery is its methods of sustainable production, namely the pond that collects rainwater and gets fed into the vineyard's watering system. It also has established dry farming for some of its varietals where the roots are deeply established into the ground and thus no longer needs to be watered. Considering how little water the region gets year round it is imperative these measures are applied to keep the business afloat! WINES - the younger wines are named after weather terms in the Kiliwa language, a Native American group with only 8 remaining families that speak the language while their more reserve wines are named after cloud formations. 1. Kuiiy [cloud] (Mezcla de sauvignon blanc, chardonnay). Has a fruity aroma of green apple and grapefruit. Supposedly there is green apple on the mouthfeel too, but I tasted the grapefruit more. 2. Jaak [wind] (Mezcla de garnacha, cariñena, syrah). A dry rose that has aromas of peach, cantaloupe, strawberries and rose petal. The same flavors are in the mouthfeel too but didn't get much fruit in the glass. 3. Seleccion de Barricas (selection of barrels). Six months aging in French and American barrels. For some reason this was not my favorite, probably due to its really high tannins? I was put off by its bitterness. 4. Coleccion de Parcelas (collection of plots). Six months aging in French and American barrels. I found this substantially less bitter and much more enjoyable. 5. Nebbiolo Gran Reserva 2011. Aged in new French barrels for 24 months and 18 months in a bottle. The description says that the nose has fruity notes of plum, blueberries and subtle notes of the toasted barrel and tobacco. The mouthfeel is powerful and fleshy and tannins are silky and well balanced. It is quite a complex wine due to its maturity. (n.b: I gifted this wine to my coworker as thanks for allowing me to go on my 2nd Valle de Guadalupe wine tour. She and her husband thought it was one of the best wines consumed and wants to know how to get more of it as it's not sold in any SD wine store. Thanks in advance). Carlos did our group's tasting and led us on a tour of the cellar. He was super knowledgable in the winery's portfolio and gave meaningful answers during the tour. My only regret was that I should've taken more notes as I was enjoying the ambiance too much to pay much attention to the lecture. I definitely would like to come back here to just lounge around sipping wine while looking out at the vineyard. I would also love to try their Cumulus and Nimbus bottles as those are considered their signature wines in addition to their Nebbiolo. read more

You know what I loved about this place? The simplicity. They don't try to up-sale you, it didn't feel like I was being smothered by the wine making experience. We were allowed to go sit on the beautiful outside terrace and the weather was perfect! They allow you to just do your own thing as opposed to it feeling more like a wine tour. We loved that! It allowed us to really take in the beauty of the land outside! We ordered the classic wine tasting package as well as the premium package so that we could compare and contrast. Both packages were good, their portions are generous. Great hospitality as well. The view was breathtaking! We went to Several wineries and this was my fave. Great winery w/ a great view! The samples they presented to us was great. We started on our 1st sample of Sauvignon Blanc. It was very delicious and a great way to start our tour. The 2nd sample of wine was the Jaak, a red Zinfandel. The pour was very flavorful and embodies the ingredients really well. The 3rd sample was the Selección de Barricas, a vino tinto. It was also very flavorful and you can taste the different hints of ingredients i.e. violet, leather, etc. The final sampling was the Nebbiolo Reserve. I would have to say that's my favorite. It's aged 20 years and you can tell the quality is superb. They really devote time to the process of their aged wine. We were able to do a tour of the facility and the tour guide, Carlos, was very knowledgeable and amicable. All in all, this winery is great and I'll definitely be visiting very soon! read more

This place is huge! And the view... amazing. Top that off with the fact that the wine was delicious, and I'd highly recommend this spot to anyone! Pros? Really knowledgeable and friendly staff (so willing to go into details about the process of each wine) They age their wine in barrels and then bottles... using both American and English oak. It truly makes a huge difference that they don't just throw in some oak coils. They do it the old fashioned (hard) way and they've got such a huge number of barrels at once that they're using to put out their amazing wine The reds were on point... rich and flavorful with lovely aroma The view and the building are simply amazing... plenty of space for parties, receptions, business meetings, or to just go enjoy the view for two Very clean environment from the inside to the decks to the restrooms to the backstage areas Cons? Came here for the first time, we made reservations online very easily. The view is BEAUTIFUL! My favorite thing of the hole experience. We got the reserva tasting which was 350 pesos per person. I liked 2 of the 4 wines served the last two were very strong, not sure i would recommend this tasting if you don't like strong wine. Overall, i would see myself coming back for the view and a glass of wine def not a tasting. They also have a seafood restaurant on the property that served very fresh and tasty oysters!
