I had the BEST time during our virtual murder mystery party and tour of El Cuervo! While my character, Dr. Orchid, was not the killer, I still had a blast! The owner is by far the hostess with the mostess and my whole family can't wait to book a staycation together! This location is so rich with local history - and colorful spirits! - that it is a must for everyone local or passing through! I am just sad that I haven't been here in person yet! That has been a huge oversight and mistake on my part. The rooms are the right combo of creepy and comfort! I would live here if I could! This is my new favorite spot in Albuquerque! And I'm such a fan girl when it comes to the owner! She's such a strong, empowering example of a business owner. She's exactly the right person to own a place like this! We stayed in the Kings Parlour room on 07/14, the room was beautiful and much bigger than I expected! The bed was so comfortable and the whole room was very clean. This was such a beautiful historic house and we are so glad we got to stay here while we visited Albuquerque for the first time. Outside of the room, the living room area was full of amenities, as well as cute art and plants. A Beautiful place, with beautiful purpose, run by beautiful people. Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at El Cuervo ABQ Guest Rooms along with several friends that were meeting me in Albuquerque for an event. I began looking at hotels and rentals when I discovered El Cuervo ABQ Guest Rooms. I reached out to the owners since their booking calendar was only unlocked so far in the future (which is typical for lots of places). They responded quickly to my inquiry about booking a room 6+ months in advance and made it possible. The communication was excellent between them and myself (as well as the others in my party). The home is on the Federal Historical Registry and was built in 1897. The room, bathroom and common areas were incredibly clean. There was a stocked coffee area and nice breakfast area. Our group utilized the breakfast area every morning and the front porch every night. It was amazing being able to have all of our party staying in the same home with these shared common areas. I stayed in the "I Love Mary Jane" room which had a balcony for those that love "Mary Jane" or perhaps a cigar. There was a queen bed with clean, crisp sheets, an A/C unit to keep the room cool in the hot ABQ summer, a smart TV that I could use to login to my various streaming accounts, but also there were plenty of "Free TV" options on it as well. There was a mini fridge in the room that had a few complimentary bottles of water and local beers. The bathroom had quality towels and a shower with fantastic water pressure. El Cuervo ABQ location is fantastic. It's a short walk or a very affordable rideshare to Old Town, (lots of restaurants, entertainment, and shopping), museums, the ABQ BioPark, the crossroads of Route 66, etc. My friends and I occupied 5 of the 6 rooms over the span of a week - with some of our folks arriving later or leaving earlier, so we did the opportunity to meet others staying at the guest house during our stay. Everyone was very friendly in passing! All of us in my party were thrilled with the accommodations and if we found ourselves in Albuquerque/Santa Fe area again, we would absolutely reach out to Brad Leigh & Stephanie to stay here again! We cannot understand why this place received so many great reviews. Unknown to us, we were in the attic room 85 degrees when we arrived, without the heat on! The room air conditioner sounded like a small jet engine, so to have it on was impossible for any sleeping or conversation. The only window, was a fire escape without a screen on it. There was consistent noise all day.... The owners called it "white noise", which it was not. It was continual furnace fan tapping noises. The 2 free waters and 2 free beers were the only plus in this room for us. The black light paintings were nice, but the streaks on the walls shown all night. Definitely do not recommend this place. read more

Even though the place has changed its name, there is still a sign in front identifying it by its former name of Mauger Estate B&B. It is no longer a B&B and in fact their web site clearly indicates that they do not serve breakfast. What they do offer is granola bars, microwave oatmeal, and Keurig coffee. What they didn't offer at least when I was present was a warm body to interact with. Everything is done by emails, texts, and entrance codes that admit you to an empty house except for the other guests, if you should happen to encounter them (which we didn't). There are extensive rules and regs in the confirmation email and posted in the house, requiring a lot of reading, which I found a bit much after driving for over 400 miles. These regs inform you that there are live security cameras all over the place including in the kitchen, which I was afraid to enter in the late evening while looking for a water glass since there wasn't one in the room. The cameras take the place of employees who could greet and assist guests and keep an eye on the place. I will admit that not having to pay for employees or a real breakfast does allow them to offer very competitive rates. That's good, because otherwise the experience would have been so cold and impersonal that it wouldn't have been worth it. I repeat: it is NOT a B&B in the traditional sense. It's a nice room in a well located historic property with more of the feel of a multi-unit absentee-owner Airbnb than a real B&B, hotel, or guest house. read more

I wish we could do half stars. I'd give it 3.5. Well this place was the only sign of any beauty in this dreary town. It's an historic renovated Victorian home. Beautifully done I might add. The room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Parking was easy with their back lot and curbside. Breakfast was just so-so. The coffee was delicious. The innkeeper has a lovely display of breads and dried fruit and nuts to munch on while she (poor thing) whisked her heart out trying to make her special sauce to go over the egg and the egg and cream wouldn't cooperate. So we ended up with one over cooked poached egg on a luncheon size plate and I can't remember what came with it. Clearly not anything to remember. This hot plate breakfast was very lackluster especially for my husband. So would I stay here again? Maybe, Maybe not. Half the reason we stay at a B&B is for the neat breakfasts. read more

I was a long term resident over the summer and I couldn't have had a nicer experience at El Cuervo! The owners are very kind, and it's the perfect distance from downtown and only a mile's walk to Old Town. Also, although crime can be notoriously bad in Albuquerque, during my 2 month's stay there wasn't one time where I didn't feel safe, even when I was getting back late at night (and I was a 19 year old girl at the time). I also parked my car out back and didn't have any problems. If you're staying in ABQ, there's no place with better charm, you've really got to stay here!! read more

Recently, my husband and I stayed at Mauger Estate B&B for a multiple-day stay-- for business and pleasure. We loved every minute at our accommodations! Our ONLY regret is that we had not known about this B&B long ago, when we first began traveling to Albuquerque for other business and pleasure trips. Our hosts and their daughter were gracious, open, and honest. Other staff was accommodating and thoughtful, as well. Their beautiful and quiet historic home is situated within easy walking distance of downtown and Old Town. We felt safe and cozy in our spacious, comfortable, and light-filled room, which was immaculately clean and tidy. Our bed and linens were plush and comfy. Each morning, breakfast was just right, with a choice of hot or cold dishes and perfectly-brewed coffee. We noticed there were tea choices and juice, as well. Some other favorite points were the big porch, where we enjoyed complimentary beer and wine in the evenings. And, their fresh-baked cookies and muffins, plus a sitting room with a warm fire were a welcome treat. Certainly, we would recommend a stay at Mauger Estate B &B! read more

I loved this place! It absolutely made my trip. The innkeeper, Tammy, was wonderful and thoughtful. Meals were great, from the wine and cheese in the afternoons to cookies in the evening to tasty breakfasts. I stayed in 2C and was delighted to find an entire suite of rooms! I woke up each morning to the sun creeping in from the windows on all three sides, I think the room was originally used as a sun porch. I stayed here with my spouse for two nights, Sat and Sun, in the middle of July. We were originally only going to stay for Sat night, but it was so pleasant that we changed our plans and stayed another night. We stayed in a room on the top floor, everything was clean, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was excellent both mornings, laid out buffet-style with a range of small tables where we could sit on the porch or in the sunroom and enjoy a quiet meal. Both "innkeepers" were incredibly helpful in recommending places to eat and things to do. We were easily able to walk around downtown and into the old section of town from this location. We recently returned from a 3 day stay at the Mauger B&B. We have stayed here 5 or so times over the past few years, and I'm writing to say that it has been consistently great. The owner, Tammy Ross, has done an amazing job of creating a perfect home for visitors. Over the years we have stayed in several of the rooms, each has it's own benefits. The front room on the ground floor is *enormous* and beautifully decorated. The first floor back room allows doggies and even has a doggie door to the back courtyard. Room 2A on the second floor is also large and beautiful. Room 2B is smaller but has the benefit of a balcony with 2 rockers for you to put your feet up on the bannister while enjoying wine on a warm Albuquerque evening watching thunderstorms in the distance. Room 2C is really 3 rooms, a living room, a bathroom,d and the bedroom which is surrounded on 3 sides with windows. The 3rd floor rooms run the length of the house and are also quite spacious. I don't think there's a bad choice in the house! The walk to Old Town is about 20 minutes through one of the established Albuquerque neighborhoods. My uncle has gone to the nearby Fruit Ave. Baptist Church for over 70 years. My Dad, now 84, used to deliver newspapers in this neighborhood when he was a kid, his sisters (now 80) went to the school next to the Mauger. A true gem of a neighborhood in Abq. I noticed that many of the once ritzy houses are now being purchased by young couples with dogs (or babies), and remodeled. As for the Mauger: Breakfast: amazing! Evening wine and appetizers: appreciated! Host: friendly and thoughtful. Absolutely no complaints! Will stay here every time I come to Abq to visit my Dad and vacation. read more

I have to agree with D.K's wish for half stars for my review. After staying two nights I'd say the overall experience is closer to a 1.5 but have rated it as 1 because.. well, let me explain. I scheduled travels for winter break to celebrate the holidays out of town. Wanting a bed and breakfast experience for Christmas, I splurged on this property based on recommendations on the gopetfriendly website. I had the expectation, call it dated, of an older couple greeting me with hot tea and cookies.. telling me about the town while escorting me to my accommodations. I arrived to an envelope on the door containing a passcode for entry and my room key - I was disappointed to not be greeted by the owners and instead briefly welcomed by a young girl in pajamas. In the K9 room, just off of the kitchen, I thought that it would be nice to have a private entry and something truly pet friendly. On the desk in the room is a list of pet policies, one of which is that the dog cannot go on the bed otherwise an $80 'linen changing fee' will be assessed. Very annoying - if it's pet friendly, such as a La Quinta, you should be able to allow your pet throughout the room as long as they aren't relieving themselves or eating/destroying property. During the early evening the owners were in the kitchen and I could hear them so I went out to introduce myself. They were, as other reviewers mention, very friendly but a tad unprofessional in the type of information they were sharing. I didn't mind but an older or more conservative person may be uncomfortable with that. While speaking with the owners they said that they would be serving a continental breakfast, as that is their procedure Monday - Wednesday. They said there would be homemade granola and 6 poached eggs, along with other items, out in the dining area at 7am. There was no breakfast. No coffee. No granola. Just an empty dining area with a small coffee pot where you could make your own coffee. I waited until 8am before leaving and getting my own breakfast. My first time here was over a year ago after being in Santa Fe for the weekend, we walk in to the dog room and breathe a sigh of relief because it felt so homey and quiet. I've now been back more times then I care to count and find that it is a great home away from home. Tammy makes amazing breakfast and is very accommodating for special diets. Stayed here for a night this past weekend, and it was my first B&B. I must say, I couldn't of been happier. The building was originally erected in 1897 (I may be of a few years) and after the remodel, it still carries a historic feel. The staff was incredibly friendly and made sure we were taken care of. The room was the perfect size and the bed was much more comfortable than any hotel bed I've ever slept on. They served wine and cheese between 5 and 7, and the location is perfect to find a place to grab a bite or shop on some drinks within a short distance. The breakfast was scrumptious and they really made your visit feel personalized. Not only is this B&B very charming, but it is also located in a cute historic neighborhood just minutes from Downtown and Old Town Albuquerque. The owners, Leigh and Stephanie, are very accommodating and make you feel right at home. In the evening homemade chocolate chip cookies, as well as wine and cheese, are available. I think I have stayed in and reviewed every decent hotel in ABQ with nothing better to say than "They didn't stink". The hotels in this town leave much to be desired. Well, I have found my new home in ABQ!!! I should have stayed here from the beginning. I am an idiot. I am sorry. That said, This is a great B&B and I have stayed in B&B's all over the world. The property itself is an historic mansion in the 'Old Town' area near downtown. It is on the corner with plenty of free parking and awesome landscaping. Very beautiful. The common areas are smallish as most have been turned into rooms but there is an awesome veranda to enjoy the complimentary wine and snacks in the evening or just to read and enjoy the weather when it is nice. The rooms range from huge to smallish but all seem to be decorated tastefully and mostly with period pieces. My room had a flat panel TV, fridge and coffee. It was a corner room with windows so there was a nice cross breeze with them open. The sink area was a bit small for me but would probably do for most people and really, this is an old house that has been converted, some quirks are to be expected. The breakfasts were very good, I am not a breakfast person but i always make it a point to try once and I went back the next two days they were so good. There is free Wi-Fi throughout as well as central heat and air (swamp cooler, if you are not from the southwest this means nothing to you but it was efficient and worked well). There are ceiling fans in the rooms as well. The property is across the street from an elementary school so there is no need for an alarm clock, all the little beasties screaming bloody murder will wake you up until the bell rings and they are sent to their cells for the day. The owners/staff are very friendly and cheerful and offer great suggestions for whatever you want to do or eat. Take them up on it. As I said previously, the property is in Old Town adjacent to Downtown so there are plenty of restaurants in walking distance. The closer you get to the center of the city the more you will notice the homeless. This is true of any city and I was not worried in the least. It is part of the flavor of a city. I plan on making Brittania & W.E. Mauger Estate B&B my new home base as I am in ABQ every three weeks or so. Stay HERE. Don't make all the same mistakes I did..... read more

Every stay has been for work and the rooms, the food, the vibe, and excellent service have consistently made the Mauger a relaxing refuge. Each time the innkeeper has been more than accommodating about my early/late schedules and has packed wonderful to-go breakfasts when I've not been able to stay for regular service. We booked a queen room with balcony. The B&B charged our credit card, which to me, indicates that they received and confirmed the reservation. When we arrived, they had no record of our reservation and no rooms available. We also called several times prior to the date, the most recent 10 days prior to inform them we would be late, giving our reservation name EVERY time, and at no time did they inform us they had no record of our reservation. This is inexcusable. We agreed to pay one night stay if we missed the reservation, they should do the same. read more

Outstanding. Excellent service, elegant decor, quality linens, delicious breakfast, and a very reasonable rate ($71 for last minute booking). We came in from the bitter cold to be welcomed by the innkeeper, Tammy and her adorable black lab. The foyer was beautifully lit and decorated; wine, cheese and olives were set out with lovely glasses and plates. We were shown four beautiful rooms before we settled on one. The bed was comfortable, the room warm and the cable and everything else worked perfectly. We awoke to a delicious breakfast of homemade french toast and berries, fresh fruit, bacon, granola and yogurt. Tammy took time to talk to us about our trip and was kind, generous and accommodating in every regard. If we ever return to Albuquerque, we wouldn't stay anywhere else. Thank you, Tammy! read more

Wow - surprised this wasn't reviewed yet! Great European feel to this B&B. Contemporary furnishings were a refreshing change from the usual Victorian cottage feel of most B&B's - which although fine can get a bit monotonous. Beds were great. We had the small suite downstairs, so I can't say much bad about the size of the rooms. I thought the proprietors were more than accommodating for our very late arrival, and the place is very clean and fresh. The only minor compliant was the breakfast - it was a little on the continental side... Most B&B's I've been to don't go for a buffet style presentation or have mostly cereals and pastries. The did have a quiche-sort-of item which was good, but they didn't refill the coffee urn until asked, and it just seemed like a bit more effort could have been put in there. Again, this is relative to some great B&B's I've stayed at before, so my comments may be a bit harsh. However, I would absolutely encourage you to stay there over any other place in downtown. read more
