I've been banking at El Dorado Savings bank for almost 40 years now. I've never had any problems.

Signed up for a savings and a checking account arount 03/2024 (in Carmichael, Ca). The only male who worked in this branch was very kind, and he helped me set the account up. He called me the day after I opened the account and left a message asking me to call him back. When I called back & left a message for him, he never returned my call. I had no idea why he called. I found out later that he called me because he had accidentally linked my pin number up to my beneficiaries(??) and so I would need to go into the bank to get a temp PIN and re-create my PIN. I forgot to mention that I thought it was strange that when the clerk was setting up my account that he was using a typewriter from the 70's or 80's. It took approximately 1 week to get my ATM card. In the meantime, I decided to enroll online for my new account. What is extremely alarming was that when I went online to enroll, I got a message stating that they would send me a text message as an added security step. Only the phone number that they had on file wasn't even my phone number!! I freaked out and didn't go further with enrolling!! It was late Friday, and the bank was closed for the weekend! So I had to wait over the weekend, completely stressed out because there was no phone number to call in case of fraud! (at least I couldn't find one). And set up my correct pin. After a long stressful weekend, I called the bank Monday morning, and after they did a few calling to other pla They told me that I would have to wait until after 12 noon. To try to log on again. Weird. I did what they said, and it gave me the same message only. It did have my phone number included in the text security step. It had my correct number and another number. That was completely different from the first number. And that other number was still on my account. Not good!! I've called a couple of times regarding phone numbers being on my account, and apparently, they're gonna take off those numbers! But I want to know how they got on there in the first place!!!! Banks should not have the power to put phone numbers on people's accounts like that! When I log on, I have no way of checking what address they have for me or my phone number, and I think that's alarming. Maybe because it's a new account , but i've never had this problem before in my fifty nine years of living and banking!!! After enrolling, I was finally able to get into my account. All this to say, I will be closing my account in the next three days period this is very fishy to me the way they run their bank. read more

Absolutely terrible Customer Service. I banked with them for about 1.5 years. I should have known when it took almost 2 hours just to set up an account. I asked about a home loan, and home equity loan. All they did was give me a form, and acted like I was nobody when the tellers had and managers told me I was their "favorite customer". Hanna in Placerville branch and others were constantly flirting with me. And Hanna went so far as to say, "so did you miss me?" I felt sexually intimidated. But the final straw was when I seng 2 wire transfers for $5,000 each. One was correctly promised for 1 day transfer by Hanna. It took 4 days. When I complained to Marsha after 2 days, she said in a loud nasty voice, "Well it takes time, what do you want ME to do about it!?" The second wire I did from the Fair Oaks branch. They messed it up in the computer 3 times. It took almost 2 hours and I was literally crying and they couldn't have cared less. The issue and reason I was crying was the money was for my future mother-in-law and she was in a diabetic coma!!! Waiting for medication. She spent an extra total of 8 days in a coma and now needs to have her legs amputated because of the delays in getting medication. Every single Placerville teller knew it was Marsha who is this big issue. El Dorado Savings also took 6 weeks to get me a replacement ATM card when my wallet was stolen. And I had no access to my money. Then finally I complained, first to a Senior Bank executive, who couldn't have cared less about my mother-in-law. Then I complained fo to Marsha via phone. She yelled at me. And hung up on me. I called back 2 minutes later at 5:01 which is 1 minute after the bank closes. No answer. I left s message to call me back. NO call ever came. I also said under no conditions should they close my account as it will cost me $1,000s of dollars in time and money because all my Bills are on AutoPay and lost business consulting and legal services time. Guess what??? Yes, they closed my account which is Highly illegal. I've spoken to senior management. They Refused to investigate the incident at the Fair Oaks branch. In total this has cost me over $50,000 in lost personal business, and late/penalties and it took me 10 days to get access to All my cash ($55,000) when I deposited the account check into another bank given the mail and time for the check to clear . Yes I'm suing Marsha, Hanna, and the Placerville Branch Manager of El Dorado Savings and the Placerville and Fair Oaks branches. And El Dorado Savings Corporation. I've called, texted and emailed various bank managers. And customer service. And went into the South Lake Tahoe branch who basically threw me out of the bank. I video taped the incident. I am also contacting the California Banking Commission and FINRA. Lastly I have noticed and recorded that ALL the tellers and managers are Women. It's clear hiring Discrimination. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THIS BANK. HIGHLY INCOMPETENT AND RUDE. ONE star is way too much! Particularly the main branch on El Dorado Road in Placerville. The manager and tellers of this bank are exceptionally rude and incompetent robots with no care or consideration for human beings. I went to close out my husband's account shortly after his death with what I thought was the correct documentation. I let them know that his mother was the beneficiary and that the remaining funds should be disbursed to her. Because we didn't have my name on the account, I let them know that we had a power of attorney for our financial affairs. I was then told by both a young male teller (who identified himself as a trainee) and an older-looking female teller that I needed to bring in the power of attorney and they could complete the closeout of the account with that document, so I drove all the way back home and got it and returned to the bank. When I arrived, I was just walking up when they closed the door. Both tellers saw me walk up, and I motioned to them that I had the document they said they needed. Both looked away and ignored me. The manager then walked up to the door and asked what I needed. I explained that the two tellers had told me that I needed to get the power of attorney to complete the closeout of the account, and that I had gone home to get it and just returned. She said, "Well, we can't use that...those are no longer in effect after a person dies, so we can't use that to close out the account." She then told me that my elderly sick mother-in-law would need to come in in person to get the funds or write a letter and go have it notarized. I asked her why her tellers had told me to go get the power of attorney if they couldn't use it, and she very rudely said she didn't know as she shoved the door into me to push me out so she could lock it. I was crying the entire time I was in the bank as taking care of all of these things when you lose someone you love is very, very painful, at least for me. Not once did ANYONE at this bank even tell me they were sorry for my loss or show even the faintest hint of either compassion or competence. I now understand why my husband became unhappy with this bank, and if he had lived he would have changed banks. NO ONE should have to undergo treatment like this, and I honestly hope that when these horrible people get to go through difficult things when they lose someone, they encounter people just as rude, horrendous and incompetent as they were. read more

Am puzzled by the 2-Star rating. I have been a El Dorado Savings Bank customer for over 10 years. I can't recall when my expectations were not exceeded. I got fed up with the lousy customer and ridiculous fees service at the "Big Banks". I never went back. EDSB has been an active and helpful partner to my business. Definitely scam you for overdraft fees. Have banked here for over 5 years and after getting hit with $30 overdraft fees on a delayed paycheck, I finally called to find out why they are paying off stuff if I don't have the money, THEN charging me a fee!? One time I like $10 short on an autopay bill two days before pay day and instead of declining to pay it, they paid it then charged me $30 for "loaning me" $10, knowing damn well I would be paid in just a few days. That is absolutely highway robbery. If you INSIST on charging an overdraft fee, at least make it make sense. $30 on a $10 "loan" for TWO DAYS?! Then, worse, they REFUSED to waive it. They said I could turn off "overdraft protection" but I'd have to come in to fill out a form in person. So that is exactly what I did. What happens? They continue to do it. Since my paycheck is direct deposit, it's happened before I even knew, my paycheck was deposited and they sniped me for $30. They recently updated their HORRIBLE app and somehow I was locked out of my account. I called and had my password reset. I was able to get in. Then just a couple days later, magically, I'm locked out AGAIN. Not only is the app absolute trash, but then I was basically "flying blind" not sure how much I had in my account. It's also impossible to keep track of when autopay stuff is going to hit and they sure as hell don't offer any sort of warning that something is hitting and you don't have all the funds. With all the technology available to us, if you actually cared about your customers, you'd offer some basic functionality to help ACTUALLY protect them from overdrafts. Now it's happened AGAIN, and they're trying to charge me $30 to cover FORTY SEVEN DOLLARS that I was short on an autopay bill. WHY did they pay it, even though I've "turned off" overdraft "protection", first and foremost?!?! I'm in between jobs and struggling financially and the last damn thing I need is my bank making things worse. I'm walking in, paying the $47 and they can fuck off with their $30 fee. Have banked with El Dorado for almost 50 years, even keeping them through two moves to the Pacific NW. in May my Medicare premium was not paid from our account with them due to insufficient funds in that account ($40) even though there was plenty of money in our other account. Never received notice by snail mail which was partly our fault but...no attempt to contact us by email, text or phone. Really?!!! As a result I have lost part of my Medicare coverage and am unable to get it back until next July. This is costing us thousands of dollars, not to mention the huge hassle now of transferring retirement money and automatic payments. So disappointed in my "hometown" bank. read more

If I could put a minus stars I would. I am a new customer. It took me 3 WEEKS to get my debit card on Friday while I was at work. Tried to activate it and take cash out, but the card was not attached to my account. I had event tickets I purchased for an event on Sunday, but couldn't go because the card was useless. Inefficient in my experience. I found that staff were not knowledgeable. It was a tremendous waste of my time.

I have been a checking account holder here for 20 years. Happy so far. They've always been nice and accommodating. Never had any serious troubles, and on a few occasions, the employees have gone above and beyond for me. I'm always happy to patronize a local business. Also, I'm extra happy to have an alternative to those awful monsters BofA & WF. It is unfortunate that their online banking and smartphone app are so awful. read more

After over 20 years of banking with El Dorado Savings Bank, I've decided to call it quits after being subjected to its scammy overdraft fee practices. How does El Dorado Savings Bank notify customers of an overdraft? By snail mail, which in my case was not delivered to my mailbox for at least a week. What happens in the meantime? More overdrafts, of course, which is exactly what the bank wants so it can run up overdraft fees. I can't believe that in this day and age of instant communication a bank doesn't offer a better way to receive notifications of overdrafts, such as by sending a text message. No such service has been offered by El Dorado Savings Bank. El Dorado Savings Bank was recently acquired by a Southern California-based megabank, which is likely to make its scammy practices continue or get worse. Never would I open an account with Eldorado, cashed one of my customers checks drawn on this bank and was charged 1.2% to cash a check from there own account , it's called robbery, I cash checks from a lot of banks some may charge 3 or so some don't charge anything, but for this bank to steal money to cash one of there own checks tops it. Was planning on opening a new account in this town now I know where I wont, 20 dollars to cash a 1450.00 check from an account at the branch where I cashed it, thieves. So my feel-good story of the day. Jana has been trying, with little success, to apply for one of these SBA Payroll Protection Plan loans to get through this time. After hitting her head against the wall several times on Friday, I suggested she write Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and our Congressman, Tom McClintock. She talked to McClintock's office on Friday and explained what a FUBAR problem applying was. She got a call back from the Congressman's rep today. He had spoken to Jana's bank's CEO, at El Dorado Savings Bank, who still would do nothing. We have been with them for decades. The aide had identified the problem, offered some viable options, and really lifted Jana's hopes. Not El Dorado. At the end of the call, he says to her, I took a bunch of classes at Folsom Lake College and had a professor with your same last name. Are you related? When Jana explained that I was her husband, he said that although he was sure I would not remember him, after he had graduated from Sac State he had gotten ahold of me to write a recommendation for a graduate program at the Capitol. I wrote his recommendation and he got in. He said, please give a shout out to my favorite college professor. The moral of this story: keep paying it forward. You never know when you might need someone's help in the future. I'm going to call him tomorrow. Of course I remember him. This is just allergies. read more

I walked in and asked to open a checking account. took about 12 minutes and the account was open and ready to go. Pleasant and efficient.

12 year customer, two home loans. Went in today to open a safe deposit box. ID was demanded, mothers maiden name was demanded, even though this information was on the screen in front of the clerk. Home Telco # was demanded. I no longer have a home LL. Manager was called. The short, fat woman said, "if you do not comply and provide a LL# my accts. could be frozen." Really, to open a safe deposit box? And you are lecturing me on Compliance? I don't think so. Drove to CP BoA, handed them my ATM, selected the size box I wanted and was out of there in 20 minutes. My wife used to work here and the managers are very nice but the people they have working as tellers now couldn't have any less people skills. They are unfriendly, unwilling to work with you, and over all unpleasant. We are canceling our membership today. We shouldn't have to get a manager every time just to do business. If you are getting a mortgage through them, DON'T. The bank cannot actually give a mortgage. You know mortgage lenders like American Pacific who are direct lenders? This bank will use a similar lender to process their loan, so all you are doing is adding a middle man who extremely slows things down. If you go with a direct lender you will have full loan approval and be ready to close within 3 weeks (currently), but never more than 4 weeks, which is completely standard. By using this bank you will lose out on homes because they cannot keep up with the completely realistic and standard timelines everyone else in CA keeps up with. You'll need a 45 days, most likely more to escrow which leaves your offer weak and unappealing. Moral of the story is, if they use a direct lender for your loan, just go straight to a direct lender and have a much better experience. read more
