This was my favorite place to have steak and a wonderful atmosphere in Barcelona. I'm sad to say. They have closed:(

I was in the El Born area looking for a restaurant to eat for lunch, as I came across El Foro. After quickly perusing the menu outside and making up my mind already which menu to choose, I went in. It was around 2 PM, but there were a couple of available dining tables. I sat at one of them. The waiter brought the menu card and I ordered a pint of the only tap beer namely Moritz. The only other choice would be bottled beer, 7 Vidas. Then it was time to order, and I chose the Angus Beef Entrecôte with green peppers and French fries together with bread and Chimichurri salsa. The dish came and it was a delight to eat. The meat juicy and tender, the French fries crunchy and not too salty, the peppers tasty. Not to mention the bread. I hadn't tasted such a good one since a while. The only negative point was that the Chimichurri salsa was basically olive oil and chilly flakes as I was missing the parsley, garlic and lemon juice. Nevertheless, pouring the salsa over the entrecôte gave the meat the extra kick. In summary, a wonderful experience and I would definitely go to dine to El Foro again. read more

I'm disappointed in you, Yelp. El Foro is an a.m.a.z.i.n.g. trip to Meatsville on a beef bullet train. And Yelp only deigns to give it 3.5 stars? For shame. I strolled up on a Tuesday night and sat outside, enjoying the beatiful Barcelona weather. They have an awesome bottle of Tempranillo (Briego Crianza) on the menu. Have you never had Termpranillo? It's an amazing Spanish red. Shut up and get it. At El Foro, you will find magical steak from the rubia gallega - a breed of cows found in a Galicia. I'm usually a medium rare guy, but when I saw the look on the server's face, I demured. I would not insult the rubia gallega with additional fire. I sipped my Tempranaillo and looked out on the beautiful Barcelona night. After a brief wait, the picaña de rubia gallega arrived at my table. Every bite was perfection. Now, I've seen some Yelpers complain that their pizza wasn't good here, but those people should punch themselves in the no-no zone for even getting pizza at a kickass steak joint. Another complained that he was charged for bread. That happens all over Europe. Don't hate the continent for its peculiarities. If you don't want to pay a cover charge, get your meal to go. My total bill to sit outside, eat excellent bread and oil, power through half a bottle of awesome wine, and absorb the meat power of a new cow flavor was just 45,30€. If this were in the U.S., I'd be paying at least $70 for the privilege before tip. So if you want pizza, go to a flippin' pizzeria. If you don't want to be charged for bread, get your meal to go. But if you want an incredible steak and great wine, El Foro will hit the spot. read more

I can honestly say, that was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. The value for money was off of the chart along with the fact that the wine we bought was divine. The service was intensive but not over bearing, he also was extremely knowledgeable when it came to the menu, in recommending the steak and wine. We ordered a 1000 grams of the 50 day dry aged steak, and he let us be apart of the preparation every step of the way. From the slab to cutting to making sure the marbling was to our liking. read more

tldr: unexpected visit here and we weren't disappointed and so happy we did! Food and sangria were delicious! My friend and I stopped here randomly to use their wifi and regroup to plan our day in Barcelona. They don't take siestas so the kitchen is always running We came in on a Friday right after the menu (the lunch deals, not the meñu) was not serving anymore. We ordered three things from the day's special menu: fried artichokes, squid ink croquettes, and spicy sausages. On the main menu, we got the empanada and sangria. The food is OK (not great, just OK). And the place is nice but... I will never go there again. Because of the tricks... You will have to pay for everything! Yep, this is normal if you order it... But they will give you some bread with olive oil... during the time when you wait for your order. It seems like this is a kind of compliment (because they are slow... and they are!) but it is not a compliment... You will have to pay for this at the end and the price is per person. The picture they have on here doesn't do the restaurant any justice. Go to their website. It's a really nice, cozy restaurant that feels like home (somehow). Ample of space between tables so you can have your intimate dinner/conversation. The food was great, too! It was a couple of blocks from the flat where I was staying and I would have gone here for my lunch every day (if I was not all over Barcelona during the day). Will definitely go back. read more

We had an amazing meal. The service was very attentive and the chef came out to make sure everything was perfect. And, it really was perfect, from the Argentine, Uraguayan and Galician steaks, the paella, and parrilla, to the fantastic bottle of Rioja they recommended. Must try! Great atmosphere too! Excellent sangria that pairs perfectly with the grilled octopus on a hot and sunny day. Wish I had realized this was an Argentinian restaurant before ordering so I could have ordered meat since their menus looked awesome. The outdoor seating is quite nice for people watching. They also give some delicious bread with olive oil and some red peppery sauce that is to die for. read more

A much appreciated restaurant for a sit down meal after lots of tapas bars. Staff were very accommodating, the space was large but felt intimate, and the food was good, including a shared fondue and roasted vegetable salad and gnocchi. Let me start by saying that my husband is a picky eater... We randomly came across this restaurant on an evening stroll for dinner. The atmosphere was inviting and since it was a little chilly for us, we chose a table inside. Every off-white stained plank table is a canvas for whimsical hand sketches/paintings of food-related items. There was music in a club downstairs that provides nice background without being too loud. The cabinet showing the delicious-looking meats indicated that they want to be know for their steaks, but we chose four appetizers, as that was what we were looking for. EVERY bite was delicious, starting with the bread with a perfectly seasoned olive oil. We ordered Avocado stuffed with shrimp and "pico de gallo," (even though I hate cilantro and am afraid of pico de gallo, I even loved that!), Fried Artichokes, (who'd ever dreamed how delicious that would be?), Figs stuffed with fresh cheese and chives, wrapped in bacon with spinach background, (a lovely "sweet" bite), and scallops wrapped in bacon with mint cream and grilled endive (the mint was a new twist for us-wonderful!). For dessert we had chocolate chunk ice cream and tiramisu, both heavenly! With two bottles of water and two glasses of house red wine, our bill was 41,90 EU. We will be coming back! read more

I went to this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 8 and though we were immediately sat at a large round table in the middle of a lovely, strange space, we all left extremely disappointed because of the length of time we waited for our food. We entered the restaurant at a regular time to eat and the place was not at all full. Yet we waited a while (10-15 minutes) for a server to take our drink orders and when we finally put in our food orders (appetizers to share and an entree for each), we ended up waiting literally 1.5 hours for our appetizers and another 45 mintues for the entrees. What was most bizarre is no one from the restaurant came to explain why the wait was so long or offered anything (like a tapa or a free drink) to appease our frustration. When the food finally came out of the kitchen, everything was pretty tasty, but not at all worth the 2-3 hour wait. I hope this was an atypical day at El Foro. read more
