In the words of our 14 yr old daughter, "These are the best tacos I have ever had". And she has been to some great places. Mind you we visit many, many, many taco shops across Southern California, Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali. Of all those, this does take the top spot as of today. We used to go to a tried a true taco shop elsewhere in Mexicali, but it had been shutdown for some time and on our return it just wasn't the same. We came to Fuerte based on the recommendation of many in our family, and it did not disappoint. We had the carne asada tacos, which is what you need to get here. We did also try the quesadillas, but beyond that we just dove into the carne asada tacos. Tortillas were great and made on site. The carne asada was tasty and full of flavor, and the condiments they lay out all added to our delicious midnight meal. We liked the carne asada tacos so much we didn't get to try anything else. Dios Mio x 100! My first experience at a local restaurant in Mexico and as a vegetarian since no fish was available, and it was incredible! First and foremost, they take ONLY CASH. No card/tarjeta! They will also ask right when you get seated. You need to know fluent Spanish or go with a local to get the best experience! Basics: 1. Little parking available outside, and an attendant is there to help you park. At the entrance of the restaurant, there is a lane of wash basins where you can wash your hands before entering and after leaving! 2. Even before entering this place, you can feel the aroma in the air of the fresh food - indescribable - delicious aroma. It becomes stronger when you enter and takes you into food paradise even before getting seated. 3. The restaurant is spacious and has several picnic tables that can be moved and joined to make seating easier for larger groups. 4. Since place is busy during lunch, service might be affected but this salsa platter keeps one incredibly busy and satisfied! Food: 1. Gratis/free: Each table has a salsa platter with MANY SALSAS and vegetables (red radish, cucumber/pepino, lettuce, pickled carrots, chopped onions with cilantro) you can dip in the salsas and eat before food comes. 2. Gratis/free: In addition to the above, they bring charred jalapeños a long with just plain boiled beans (all vegetarian - no meat) 3. I ordered "papas rellenas sin carne" which is boiled potato with cheese, sour cream but without any meat. Along with this come 2 tortillas - it is recommended to eat flour tortillas since they're more flavorful - as opposed to corn tortillas. The dish also comes with refried beans but these refried beans contain pork so I didn't eat them. With the above tortillas and the free sides, I made myself a mini burrito with boiled potato, and it was THE BEST BURRITO I have had! The flavors were incredible! This sentiment was echoed by my party who indulged in al pastor tacos and other meat dishes. 4. I also ordered a cheese quesadilla and that was plain, but delicious as well with the salsas! I been here twice it's always crowded and a lot of activity food is good hot and tasty ,they serve you a condiment tray of grilled jalapeños and grilled chives with a bowl of charro beans and the bring out a salsa tray with guacamole and radishes with chopped cabbage etc. I opted for the rib-eye tacos and arrachera tacos was served fast. Great tacos, from Carne Asada, Quesadillas, Chicken Tacos, to Borrego Tacos, which you only find them in the morning. I've been coming here since they opened a few years ago and I always leave with a smile in my face. The service is exceptional, all the waiters are always proactively working to achieve the best service, it's amazing. I love it here this is my go to place for tacos when ever I'm in Mexicali. I recommend the taco Chile rib eye, they have a variety of condiments at the table that allows you to put what ever you want in your taco! Plus I always ask for chunky guacamole and grilled onions. This place never fails me, their Arrachera meat is very tender and their portions are just right. Most of the time it's busy, but I can understand why. Came here from our trip to Bahia de Los Angeles. Wanted to eat some Mexican food before going back to the States. The service was friendly. The food came promptly. We ordered the mid size Paridallas plate for two people for 450 pesos. For the money, it was a lot of food and it was absolutely delicious. All of the meat have so much flavor. I ordered the lemonade tea and my cousin ordered the horchata. He said it tasted pretty good. The lemonade was not bad. Everything was great until I got home. I had diarrhea the whole night and next day. My cousin didn't. The only thing I ate that he didn't was the grilled jalapenos that came as a side. While I love the food and the atmosphere here, I have to dock it 3 stars for the pain I suffered. read more

It's our stop for tacos place everytime we go to Mexicali. They are open 24 hours so it won't be a problem what time your hunger strikes. They pretty much give you a plate of all the "sides" of different salsas and toppings for your tacos. They are quick with service even though everytime we go the place is always packed. These tacos are seriously in my top ten taco joints in all of Mexico. The carne asada is to die for since the meat is so tender and cooked to perfection as well for the other meats. This is a very good place to enjoy traditional tacos and the variety of all the salsas and condiments had the carne asada, pastor, lengua (tongue) and tripa(intestines) all very good and service was very fast even when the place was packed.
