El Senador had been around for a long time and was highly rated on yelp, but it was not impossible to get a reservation, unlike Botin which had hordes of people waiting outside and completely booked for several months. El Senador was very close to the Royal Palace, housed in an old building, exuded history. The meal started with bread and a delicious pan fried sausage called chistorra. We ordered the calamari and the bean soup as a starter, then roast lamb (1 person portion) and suckling pig (1 person portion) as mains. The calamari was generously sized, but tasted just ok, very simply seasoned and looked better than it tasted. The chistorra was succulent and flavorful. The giant bean soup was also hardy and savory. The mains were disappointing and glad we got 1 person portion size instead of 2. I didn't see the hype. Flavors were monotonous, like they were only seasoned with salt. The suckling pig had crispy skin, but not blistered like Chinese roast suckling pig. The side of sauce/dripping provided little additional flavor. Honestly, I would rather have the Chinese roast suckling pig over these. The dessert was also a huge disappointment. The apple dessert was just thinly sliced and caramalized apple topped with a scoop of ice cream. I expected a tart or some kind of cobbler/pie creation here, but no, just plain sliced apples. The meal ended with a shot of licor de cafe y nata, which was a delicious sweet ending, much better than the apple dessert.

The inside was nice without being stuffy and our service was good. I chose this spot because it's a Bib Gourmand Michelin restaurant and it did not disappoint! It was also very reasonably priced - so much so that while originally we were going to do a la carte, we decided to go for a prix fixe menu. It was totally worth it to try so many things and we were very full but not overly so by the end! All our food was only 48 euros which is incredible!

After a day trip to Toledo, I was super tired and decided to have my dinner nearby. Turn out everything I experienced that night surprised me, from the atmosphere, service to their food. Their croquettes are so delicately made, even the amuse bouche (invitacion aperitivo) are excellent. I told the waitress who speaks English that I was super tired , could not drink and would like to try more dishes. She suggested their Cana but on the lighter side. She also recommended cutting my portion into 1/4 or half size so that I could try more dishes. Her attentive service merited 10 stars. In addition to the chorizo croquettes, my other dishes were cuttlefish risotto and callos, both turned out to be exceeding my expectation! And the 1/2 portion were actually quite huge!!! It was my last night in Spain, and Canadio did offered me an unforgettable dinning experience. Planning to come back in the Fall, and will absolutely visit them again!

After coming back, we saw a tapas tour coming in. They came there for the croquettes and the vermut. We ordered the boletos, sweetbreads, pulpo, and, of course, the callos. The server tried to help us out and said those should be enough since there was just 2 of us dining. They give you free iberico with cheese and crispy pork belly for appetizers. Every dish was a hit! Boletos with egg and truffle felt very rustic, savory, delicious. Truffle was not overpowering, mushrooms were fresh. Sweetbreads was our favorite out of the meal. It was like a step down from actual foie gras. Goes well with beer and wine. The galician pulpo was the best one we had on our trip, and we had 3 of them beforehand. And lastly the callos. At this point we've already hit a wall with all the food we had, servings were a good size per dish. It was rich, decadent, and perfectly cooked. It doesn't have the offal aftertaste you get from tripa that's ill prepared. We had multiple beers and wines throughout the meal. The service was personally phenomenal. We walked in the restaurant and checked out the menu. One of the managers came up to us and told us that unfortunately in this part of the restaurant the wait was going to be long. He told us that there was another part of the restaurant around the corner. The manager personally walked us there and got us a table. Our servers brought out bread and showed us the menu and wine list. One of my friends decided to order a bottle of wine which three of my friends shared. The menu was all in Spanish, but the staff helped us with the words that we did not know and we ordered. I decided to order the spicy beef, peppers, potatoes, and fried egg. Everything flowed together very well and had just the right amount of spice. It was a little greasy, so I did not eat a lot of it as I was not super hungry and did not want any stomach problems later--smile. The staff brought out dessert for my friends, which was carrot cake and flan that looked so amazing! Our bill was brought out and we all noticied that there was a 6 euro charge for our bread. Bread in Spain is super inexpensive, so why they would charge us 6 euros for five small pieces of hard bread I do not know. Other than that our food was delicious and the service was great as well!!
