Great Mexican food! The food is always fresh, has great flavor, and is the perfect portion size. I got one shrimp taco to try it, and it was really good! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and there was a (what seemed to be) mayo based sauce inside. The slaw was nice, though if it was a bit sweeter it may have been even better. The nachos are my go-to. As someone who is very familiar with Mexican food from Border states as well as Tex-Mex I can safely say that Indio is unique and not in a bad way but in its own special way. I have ordered via the drive-through, in person, online and by phone. Each time the customer service was up to standard. (Props for dealing with college kids all day and still being professional even at the end of the day) I've only ordered one thing and it's been so good that I keep coming back for it. The chimichanga platter. Me Gusta la chimichanga, la Comida es Muy Bien. With a drive-through on both sides, outdoor covered outdoor seating arrangements. The building is fitting for a Mexican joint you would encounter say in LA. The bang for your buck is my favorite part. I get a very heavy plate with tasty food. It's been a little while since I've visited El Indio! Came here for takeout with some friends a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed my meal. Service was great and food came out relatively quick. They do a great job dealing with lots of customers, which I appreciate. I ordered the 3 shrimp taco bundle this go around and enjoyed them! The meal included 3 shrimp tacos with your choice of corn or flour tortillas, garnished with red cabbage, cheese, and pink sauce. These were great! Shrimp was tender and flavorful, the flour tortillas were soft, and the sauce complimented the shrimp very well. They were $12.29 for the 3 tacos, not too bad, but I wish the meal had included a bag of chips. Overall, El Indio is still a wonderful spot to grab some fast, authentic Mexican food. I always have a hard time ordering because it feels like they can't listen well since the intercom might be old. I always have to check my order before leaving because they always leave stuff out and I'm always missing things. This time we ordered a carne asada burrito and we had it double wrapped for .49 cents. For good reason it needed to be double wrapped. My bf highly recommends removing the guacamole and adding onion, cilantro, rice and beans then lastly fries to it. It came to around $10. We usually go to cilantro tacos to get their carne asada burrito but they are closed Sundays so this was our alternative. Cilantro tacos burrito comes to $15 anyways so we are saving just by ordering from here even though theirs is hard to beat this is a close second and beats the craving we had. It was a pretty big burrito and flavorful too. I had the fried chicken sandwich , I know I know at a Mexican place it's just unheard of. But I wanted a mcchicken and that helped with the craving. I have loved this place for about 20 years I'd say. We would visit my oldest sister who lived in Gainesville across the street like I said probably 20 years ago and was hooked. So if I'm passing the exit for Gainesville on a trip I'm stoppimg by. I would say mainly for the queso but over the years their menu has grown as well as the business since I saw they have other locations in Gainesville but I stick to my og location. From the street especially back in the day it might not look like a place to stop but I'm telling you its worth it. They have added art murals and more seating. I think back in the day it might have just bern family owned but since the growth it looks like they hire college local students to the staff. We placed an online order using their website. It was very convenient and easy to customize each dish ordered (if it has customizable options). One can also add a "special instruction" for each dish ordered. We were ordering for a large group so I added the special instruction of "Please write JOHN on the container" and they did. It makes it so helpful when trying to go thru the dishes once we are ready to hand out the entrées. They were also quick considering it was a Friday night at 8:00pm. The portions were generous. The black beans were mashed instead of whole and made it much easier to eat because the beans do not roll off the fork ;). I noticed they used aluminum containers instead of styrofoam so that is a plus for us. We will visit El Indio again. read more

I had carne asada tacos and like all legit street tacos it had onion and cilantro with lime on the side. The meat was great, not fatty or gristly, just tender and tasty. Onion could be more finely sliced, but generous amounts of chopped cilantro. With the meal come delicious black beans and Spanish rice. But these are the very qualities that make you want to dive in and get a meal here. Service is fast and efficient, which is what you want to see from a fast food joint. And I have to say, their chimichangas are my second favorite after La Tienda. Nice and crispy on the outside with a delicious chunky beef filling, it is a filling meal, especially with the side of beans and rice. Put this place on your list of must eats in Gainesville. I always like to come here and get some Tempeh and black bean burritos. I also like to get chips with guacamole. You can order some extra and they give you a lot. Everything I've ever gotten here was good. I don't understand the ridiculous comments by people whining about somebody not being nice enough or not finding a bathroom when this is a drive-through. It's not set up for you to hang out. I've never gone there looking for that and somebody wrote about it complaining. Maybe the place should get one if there isn't one. But I think you should stick to critiquing the food and I have so far had good experiences here. And they have all kinds of different meats too including pork which is unusual to me for a taco. If you can't find something to like about this Mexican food place you are a griper. The food here is a little smaller on the portion sizes, but i feel that it reflects in the price. You can get a burrito for like $7, which I don't really know of anywhere else you can still do this in 2023. The burrito was absolutely delicious and everything inside was cooked well. Definitely recommend the carne asada. The taquitos are also absolutely delicious. They're really crispy, covered in cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Took a quick trip up to Gainesville to drop off my son and stumbled upon this hidden gem. So close to campus on NW 13th street, this laid back, fast food Mexican restaurant serves authentic tacos, burritos and even breakfast. They offer takeout, pick up and drive thru and are open from 9am - 10pm Monday - Sunday. It was raining, so we went through the drive-thru. Service was fast and excellent. The girl behind the window was so helpful she pointed us in the right direction on what to order. Everything is prepared fresh and, on the spot, we were not disappointed. Tacos are offered in hard or soft taco with a choice of ground beef, chicken, veggie or bean. 2 large tacos were loaded with lettuce, slasa and cheese our order came with 3 and they were delicious. The Taco Salad was a large flour tortilla bowl stuffed with fajita chicken, black beans, lettuce, cheese salsa and guacamole with a side of dressing on the side. Don't skip the guacamole...it's one of the best and the homemade salsa is so fresh with lots of cilantro. Portions are large, which is perfect if you're driving home, you don't need to stop again on the turnpike. This was the best fast food, I've had in a long time. The fajita nachos are wonderful. Oh, and the tacos-- fantastic! It's not exactly like home, but it's like a little restaurant that I could stumble upon in Houston, try for the first time, and think: a new Houston restaurant! Did I mention that this is a drive-thru place, and the prices cannot be beaten? There are other Mexican restaurants in town charging so much more money for food that is nowhere near as good, in my opinion. in fact, some of it I don't like at all.
