We were in town for a concert and booked a reservation at Spurrier's Gridiron Grill about a week ahead of time. Definitely glad we did, because I'd highly recommend getting a reservation here. We went on a Saturday around noon and found out they do a buffet brunch until 3pm. I wasn't expecting that at all, but it ended up being awesome. The shrimp and grits were amazing. I don't know what they put in those grits, but they were seriously scrumptious. The chicken wings and sliders were also really good. The place itself is really nice and well put together. Our server was good too and even gave us some recommendations for breweries in the area, which was appreciated. Overall, great food, great service, and a really nice atmosphere. Food options look amazing lots of dishes to choose from. However, this is not a seed oil free restaurant. It can be deceiving when looking at the menu. For example seared in olive oil is mentioned but they leave out it's been marinated in herbs and vegetable oil prior. However an undressed salad and grill item like a prime rib were supposedly not pre marinated. So for the folks trying to eliminate inflammatory seeds oils from their diets or those with soybean or peanut allergies you need to stay away. Since blended cooking oils or vegetable oil can def contain both. Atmosphere is casual and interesting with all the football history about. Make a reservation! This place books up fast and not just on game days. Had a family dinner here - ended up sitting in the bar b/c a table opened up there before our reserved table. The small bar area was fine, but not as nice of a feel as the main side & wait staff is also the bartender (which means he's got a lot going on) so next time will plan ahead better and try the main dining room. Upscale restaurant in nice location at Celebration point. Easy parking. Lots of hostesses ready to check you in and was impressed to see them wiping down the doors almost every 5 min. Service was fine - really nice guy, he was just super busy as the restaurant was full. Appreciated gluten-free items being marked on the menu and that they offer the GF cheese rolls. If you've ever had Brazi Bites, they're pretty much like that but bigger, cheesier and better. Comes with a marinara dipping sauce that we really didn't end up using b/c the bites are better on their own. An order had maybe 6 bites so will need a couple orders if there are more than 3 of you. Didn't love the mocktail but appreciate that they have several to choose from so will try a different one next time. Food came pretty quickly and was presented nicely. Tomahawk pork chop was good. Really enjoyed the carrots. Halibut was pretty good. Small portion so if you have a big appetite, might want to go with the tomahawk. Chicken marsala was meh & surprisingly mashed potatoes weren't great. Not a lot of food. wouldn't order again. Brussel sprouts were quite tasty. We were there late so didn't walk around much, but there's some fun memorabilia to check out. Are you even a Gator if you've been to Gainesville and never been to Spurrier's?! I visited on Valentine's Day -- solo -- as a recent widow, and I honestly wasn't sure how the night would feel. What I didn't expect was to leave full, lifted, and smiling. I grabbed a seat at the bar (full service, first-come-first-served) and started with the shrimp scampi appetizer -- absolutely delicious. Then came a few expertly made cocktails thanks to Anthony, who was attentive without hovering, and Mandy, whose warmth and spirit felt like a hug you didn't know you needed. For dinner, I ordered the filet with miso-charred Brussels sprouts -- perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, and worth every bite. Now... I never do dessert. But in honor of my late husband -- and his love for carrot cake -- I decided to Spurrier splurge. And I'm so glad I did. The vibe? I had dinner with a friend here on Friday night and thankfully we made reservations as it was packed around 6:30pm. Since we were going to a movie, we ordered our food immediately. I went with the blackened redfish entree which I've had before. My friend ordered the chicken Marsala. Paired with my glass of Barossa Valley Cabernet, the entree was delicious. It came out with this large scoop of infused butter on top of the fish. The fish was cooked and season perfectly, it's a good portion for one person. The green beans were good and seasoned with that melted butter. My one suggestion is this entree needs another side to accompany it like mashed or roasted potatoes. Especially for the price point at $36 - eating green beans and a piece of fish just feels like something is missing in my opinion. My friend said she liked her chicken marsala and enjoyed the mushroom flavor. It wasn't my favorite but not the worst either. For a busy Thursday night, it was definitely crowded and with that being said, we had pretty great service. I order the 6oz steak it's wasn't juicy but over priced and asparagus was good but the mashed potatoes were dry and cold . Earlier in the evening, we had stopped by the bar for a quick drink--our bartender was friendly, attentive, and set a great tone for the night. When we returned for dinner, our waitress was just as kind and professional. K ordered the filet and was blown away by its tenderness and juicy flavor. The short rib risotto was rich, comforting, and full of depth--CPA was thoroughly impressed. I enjoyed a classic house margarita, while CPA's had the Jerri's Seasonal Sangria--both were perfectly balanced and well-crafted. My husband and I are both Gators. We'd never been to Spurrier's; so we decided to stop in on our way from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale. It was a Sunday at about 8:15 pm; and we really wanted to watch the Green Bay/Pittsburgh game. We thought it was perfect timing! We weren't even sure the restaurant was open because it looked pretty empty inside. The host asked if we had a reservation, odd because the place was 90% empty. Then he took our name and number and said to wait up front. We asked if we could just sit in the bar area, which was a little fuller, because we wanted to watch the NFL game. He led us to a table next to a large column where really only 1 of 4 seats had a clear view of the game we wanted. I asked if we could have a different table, (there were many empty ones.). He said we could if we waited for them to clear and set one. We said fine, and were just kind of standing back; but he said we'd have to return to the host stand and wait there. Then we waited while he seated another couple that came in and he finally came back for us. He was just very aloof, and not very welcoming or friendly at all! Once seated at our new table, our server Emily came over and promptly took our drink order. She was pleasant. We perused the menu and decided to start with the Buffalo Chicken Dip, $18. I was worried it might be a little spicy because it said it had Louisiana hot sauce, but it had just the right amount of heat and a great texture with lots of cheese and shredded chicken. It also had the black tortilla chips which were delicious! The portion was perfect for sharing. We also shared Spurrier's Cheeseburger, $19. It was cooked to perfection with a tasty bun and a juicy burger. We both loved it and it came with some really yummy fries which were unexpected bonus! I haven't experienced the rooftop bar because they are constantly booked with events when I go but they also have outdoor dining. The staff is super attentive and constantly checking in to make sure everything's good, which I really appreciate. It's also the perfect spot to watch sports, with plenty of TVs and an energetic but comfortable environment. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious, from drinks to dinner to the buffet. We had appetizers which we forgot to photograph the roasted whole cauliflower and wings being the standout appetizers. For entrees we got the spinach artichoke chicken which had wonderful potatoes, shrimp scampi was okay with the sauce being a little on the thin side but tasty, the bolognese was good, the burger was cooked as requested the fries were well seasoned, the veggie burger was good though a bit soft and the brussel sprouts were a standout. They were beautifully roasted and seasoned. The atmosphere was unique and caters to any Florida fan looking to see memorabilia. Before moving to Ocala, I never heard of Spurrier. I do not know much about football because it was never really an interesting sport to me. I mean I have always watched NFL games when I was back home and would attend NY Giants games but I was never into it that much to know of Spurrier or college football for that matter. Anyway, hubs and I had this place on our list to try and found a perfect opportunity on a Sunday when I picked him up from the airport. We have tried a couple of times to visit previously but either no one paid attention to us or it was insanely busy. When we finally visited, it was so dead at the bar immediately inside the door so we decided to sit there. We didn't realize there was a brunch buffet going on but it was towards the end of brunch hours so we decided not to indulge. We figured we would want to try the items when they were still fresh. The bartenders at first were welcoming and friendly. We were hungry so we ordered some food items. Hubs ordered a burger and I ordered a Caesar salad with a side of mac and cheese. The salad was good but the Mac and cheese was not flavorful. I think I wound up giving the rest to hubs. He enjoyed his burger but definitely had better. The service was not great in regards to speed or paying attention. The first round, hubs had waited a really long time to receive his beer. We were watching and in awe because we could not figure out what was going on. I asked the bartender again, to which she said she was getting it but never came back. Upon ordering our second round, I was waiting forever for someone to come over so I could order another glass of wine, I believe they gave my husband a beer on the house because of the mess up. I came here after a friend recommended the restaurant and it did not disappoint. From the moment you go in, the staff is very nice and helpful. The server provided some suggestions and she did not steer me wrong with them. To drink I tried the Lychee Martini and it was delicious. I was surprised with the boba on the bottom of the glass. As an appetizer, I tried the salt and pepper calamari. The plate was big and the calamari were crispy. As an entree, I had the short rib and wild mushroom risotto and it was so tasty. The short rib meat melts in your mouth. Throughout my time there, the staff was very attentive at picking up the dirty plates and refilling our water cups. Was a back room with no windows past the kitchen, not well decorated AT ALL. It was an expensive event and not worth the cash to be honest. Just a heads up if you are thinking of booking for graduation. Might want to look elsewhere. I've been there just for a regular dinner and it's OK. I made a reservation to celebrate my mom's birthday, and while the experience had some good moments, there were a few things that could definitely be improved. The brunch buffet had some tasty options, especially when the food was fresh. The shrimp and grits were my favorite! But some of the food that had been sitting under the heat lamps for a while was pretty dry. That said, the variety of options was impressive, and for the price, it's definitely a solid deal. One issue, though, was that they had two buffet lines, but they closed one down early, even though brunch hours hadn't ended yet. This made the line much longer and slower than it needed to be. A nice touch was the made-to-order omelette station--you just tell the staff your table number, and they bring it to you. The rest of the buffet is self-serve, which was fine. Since we were there for my mom's birthday, they gave her a plate of cookies to take home (apparently they're Steve Spurrier's wife's recipe), and they were really good! They also brought her a candle to blow out, which was nice. We opted for the bottomless mimosas for an additional $25 per person, but the setup for this was a bit of a hassle. You get a ticket and have to take it to the bar near the entrance (even if you're seated in the back, like we were). The bar was often unmanned, and there was always a line when we went up. What made it worse was the bartenders didn't seem to manage the line well--they helped people at the back first while those of us at the front were waiting longer. When we finally got our drinks, the bartenders spilled champagne everywhere, got our tickets wet (which we had to keep for each round), and just didn't seem very organized. I get that champagne can be bubbly, but if I'd known the process would be this annoying, I would've just ordered individual drinks instead of opting for bottomless mimosas. It honestly wasn't worth the trouble. All in all, while the food was good and the birthday gesture was appreciated, the service and drink setup were pretty lacking. I'd consider coming back for the food, but I'd skip the bottomless mimosas next time. read more

My partner and I were eager to try Spurriers the night before game day. We had a 5:45 reservation and were seated right away. The rooftop atmosphere was not what we were expecting, but in a good way. It was classier. It was a chilly night but the building walls did a great job keeping it warm. We were seated at a high top and after about 5 minutes our server came by to order drinks. While he was ordering our drinks, he did not look us in the eye and walked away. We thought he would come back but he didn't. It was odd. For an appetizer, we had the Buffalo chicken dip. It was delicious. Again with the service, our server didn't come back until about 15 minutes later to order our entree. Each time, he looked away as he was distracted by something. Quite odd. Just when it couldn't get any odder, we were asked to move tables before our entree was served due to our table being rented out by a group. We hadn't even been there an hour at this point so not sure why they sat us there knowing we would have to move. I had the blacked red fish for my entrée and it was good but lacked in flavor for the price. My partner had the short rib and it was outstanding. Overall, the food was good but not perfect. Meh. Sort of overrated for the price. First off I want to say the service was fantastic. Great wait staff. Everyone was super helpful and the manager even came over and checked up on us at the end of the meal. With that said, the problem is really with the food. While not bad it just wasn't great. The calamari appetizer was actually pretty good and I would give 4 to 5 stars The steak I had though was just okay. My friend ordered a medium steak and I ordered mine medium rare. My steak was more well cooked than hers. Next, I paid the extra eight dollars to add crab meat, expecting some really nice big chunks of lump crab. Instead, I was greeted with about a teaspoon of blue crab with shells still in it. If you're going to add crab to anything, you have to make sure that you get all the shells. Again, not worth getting. My mashed potatoes were over-mixed and gummy, but still had a couple of pieces of unmixed raw potato in them. And they were also under seasoned. This restaurant doesn't include salt and pepper shakers though I'm sure I could've gotten them if I had to ask (but we were with a large group and I didn't want to make a fuss). My wife got shrimp and grits and they were okay. She said they weren't the best she's ever had but they were acceptable. She did mention the grits were outstanding. Overall, a $360 bill (including tip) for five people in a fairly high energy place wasn't too outrageous, it's just that there are other better steakhouses in town with much better food. Lastly, I want to say that some of the food is above par, just isn't the best option in town. I think if my crab wasn't so bad this might have gotten 4 stars. read more

She acted annoyed I was there and told me that as a single, I would have a 15 minute wait, but there was no wait at the bar. Clearly she wanted me to sit there, so I did. Then I asked about single malt scotches. The bartender had no idea which ones they had, so he handed me the list, half of which were blends. So I went with Chardonnay. Then I ordered Shrimp and Grits. It was ok but not amazing. Actually tasted like a combination of shrimp and grits with jambalaya, complete with andouille sausage. Solid 3 stars, nothing more.
