Chile Poblano with cheese. Wonderful mole sauce.
    Chris V.

Made it back and the food was just as good as I remember! Started out with fresh made chips and salsa. Tasty mole sauce on top of my chile poblano. Added a goat taco which was yum. My family all enjoyed the birria tacos. Lean meat with crispy freshly made shells and great consommé. Service was quick. Sat outside and enjoyed beautiful 80 degrees on the patio.

Ever since I came to Gainesville, I've been told La Tienda holds the crown for the most authentic Mexican food and best birria in town. I finally ordered some and can confirm it lives up to the hype! While I didn't dine-in and ended up getting takeout, it was still excellent nonetheless. The menu consists of a variety of tacos, tortas, burritos, gorditas, fajitas, quesadillas, and other Mexican entrees or meals. It's safe to say the has something for just about everyone. The prices aren't too bad for the amount of food you receive. Each meal runs around $15 and I found it to be fair. I ordered delivery which was pretty easy. I didn't deal with any major problems. My driver had trouble finding my address, but La Tienda called me to make sure the driver knew where to drop my food off. They also text you and confirm that you did in fact receive your order, which I appreciated. You are able to track your delivery to see where the driver is. I received my order within roughly 20 minutes after placing it online. Now for the food! Of course I had to try their famous birria, so I ordered that along with chips, salsa, and pancho dip. All the food was packaged very nicely and I appreciate that there were tight lids on all the dips and consume. The chips also came in a container with foil and not a paper bag covered in grease. The chips were perfect and seemed fresh as they were still warm when I received the order. The salsa was fresh and very flavorful. The pancho dip was essentially just queso with ground beef--perfection! This was super yummy and I would recommend. Now onto the star of the show, the birria tacos! The birria tacos consist of corn tortillas dipped in stew juices, smothered with cheese, then grille, then stuffed with stew beef, onion and cilantro, served with a cup of stew juice for dipping. Oh my were these the best birria tacos I've ever had. They had so much gooey cheese, the meat was so tender and bursting with flavor. The consume was super savory, I could have seriously drank it. The lime added the perfect amount of acidity. This mea was chefs kiss, no complaints, would 100% order this again without hesitation! Overall, I was blown away with how good La Tienda was. My food was so fresh, especially considering I ordered takeout. I can only imagine was good it is dining in! The chips, salsa, and pancho dip were a great starter. The beef in the pancho dip was really flavorful and the queso was perfectly velvety. The birria tacos were mind blowing. Just so, so good. The meat was super juicy and tender. The cheese was gooey and melty, complimenting shredded beef so well. The consume and dipped corn tortillas were oh so flavorful. Seriously no complaints, I could eat this over and over again it was some of the best Mexican I've had. And I cannot go without mentioning the prices. You get so much food for a really decent price. Mine was slightly more expensive because I ordered delivery though. It's safe to say I am looking forward to getting La Tienda again. Next time I will for sure be ordering in and eating there. I would HIGHLY recommend checking this place out, it will be worth the visit.

    3 Soft Taco Special

La Tienda is hands down one of the best spots in Gainesville for tacos. The soft tacos are amazing, and their house-made chips, salsa, and guacamole are must-haves--fresh, flavorful, and dangerously addictive. We usually go for the 3-taco combo meal, which is both affordable and filling. Don't let the exterior fool you--yes, it looks like a little shack and doubles as a convenience store selling Ponds cold cream, shampoo, and lighters--but that's part of its quirky charm. Inside, it's bustling, casual, and often loud when full, but that's just the sign of really good Mexican food. It's a favorite among UF students, and parking can be tight, so plan accordingly. But trust me, it's worth it. Throw on shorts and a tee, grab a table, and prepare for some of the best tacos in town.

We got here right at open and there was already a line of customers so we were pretty optimistic. Interior was nice and clean, but today we took our food to go. A mixed bag in terms of our food. My chicken fajitas were nicely seasoned and had a good portion. My husband thought the carne asada tacos were mediocre. Quesadilla and chimichanga were also average per my other family members; chimichanga was on the salty side. Salsas are on the spicy side. Chips were good with them though. I was told this place used to be much better, but as this was only my 2nd time here I can't speak to that. Would recommend only if you are really hungry and craving Mexican food in this area.

    Gluten free birria tacos

La Tienda took my breath away. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, filled with fun liveliness. The birria tacos are to die for (not literally though, because they are completely gluten free ). Absolutely delicious!! The service was also incredible - very fast. 10/10 recommend.

Looking for authentic and affordable Mexican cuisine? Definitely stop into La Tienda Latina. I love coming here for tacos and a little treat from the store, hence the name of the restaurant. I had a craving some tacos and stopped by on Friday evening around 7 pm where it was busy. I placed an order to go for lengua and carne asada tacos with chips, guacamole, and salsa. While waiting for my order, I did contemplate if I wanted a treat like a paleta or flan. I did not get a treat which I regretted later on. My order took about 10 mins or so. Once I arrived home, my tacos were still piping hot as they were rolled up into foil. The tacos are dressed with white onions and cilantro. They provide sauces and lime on the side. The lengua (beef tongue) is so good and chewy. It's similar to eating carne asada but a little more fatty . I would say do not knock it at all. Their carne asada is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Both meats have that charred finish to them. Get their chips and guac and salsa combo - the chips are fresh and delicious and the salsa is some of my favorite. If you're in the area or looking for a casual inexpensive Mexican spot with a grocery store - stop into La Tienda.

Great local comfort food. Price is reasonable. Busy and popular place. Even the food took a while to be ready; quality justifies though. The menu is extensive with a lot of Latino choices dishes.

    al pastor tacos
    Elena C.

A recommended local spot. Coming in, there was a decent crowd inside. Plenty of seating. Quick service. Got the tacos with carne asada and al pastor. The al pastor was worth, and the carne asada was a bit dry and lacking flavoring. Burritos come smaller than I am used to. Horchata not worth, it was watered down. Paying with credit card is a 4% surcharge. Should try at least once, a casual Mexican spot.

THE BIRRIA was AMAZING to say the least. Recommend to everyone i'm Mexican btw This over any taco bell and always come saturday whoever is chef slaps. I wish the picture was better but i ate it too fast

Decided to satisfy my craving for tacos by checking this place out! As suggested by others, it's probably wise to go here early as there could be a line of people waiting. We got three different tacos (birria, carne asada, and al pastor). 1. Carne asada tacos - 3/5, little bit bland in taste, was not too impressed by the quality of the meat. 2. Birria tacos -5/5, tender and juicy meat, flavorful 3. Al pastor- 4/5, lots of meat, but could be better in terms of seasoning. Overall, 4/5 experience for me! Will come back to try more food later.

Great low key place for pretty authentic food. Our party of 5 have nothing but nice words for this place. 3 of ordered fajitas, 1 burrito and one Mexicano Bisteca. We also ordered chips, salsa and guacamole. All generous portions.

Chicken breast was used and although there was a lot it was very dry and the broth was more like a heavy veloute. It also did not have much flavor. I won't be ordering that a again. My wife and I had Empanadas, mine was shredded beef and hers shredded chicken. I could have used a bit more sauce for dipping. The shell was quite crisp but not greasy. But all and all it was good. Our friend had the vegetarian arepas and let me taste some, it was quite good. She finished the whole dish! We also shared the loaded fries which came out hot with an interesting sauce drizzled over it. We didn't have the bacon on it as our friend is vegetarian. That would have made it even better for me. Nice save. Parking when they're busy is a bit much but we found a spot around the corner from the door and walked to the entrance. You walk through their outside dining area which is all covered but because it had just rained it was a bit muggy for us so we opted to sit inside. The place has multiple floors and I really like that set up. We were sat upstairs on the second floor right by the top of the stairs. Looking around you can see another floor with a reserved area, tvs showing sports, and their salsa bar, more on that later. No chips and salsa here. Chips and Charro Bean Dip. The beans tasted refried and charred if that makes sense. I lost at rock, paper, scissors so I had to go visit the salsa bar and bring back dips to try. They had some pretty good ones like their homemade chipotle dressing, salsa verde, salsa de molcajete, etc. There wasn't one that we didn't like. Our server was really great and took care of us well. I got a Tamarindo Margarita and to eat the Enchiladas Poblanas (chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, queso fresco, raw onions) with the normal side of refried beans and rice, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guac. I got a side of extra cheese because I'm a little rat and dumped it on them. The mole sauce really hit the spot.
