Ate here for the first time on 5-5-2026. I got their queso cheese sauce and a Fajita burrito. My wife got their Chicken quesadilla. The queso was like a thick gravy (looked similar to the gravy that Cracker Barrel uses for the dumplings) and had no cheese flavor and no spiciness to it; like queso usually does, it just sucked. On a scale of 1-10 the queso cheese sauce a 2. The Fajita burrito with steak there was a lot of rice inside as well as a big side of rice on the plate and they was skimpy on the peppers and onions. It was a burrito lacking on the ingredients that make it moist and it ended up being a dry burrito. I had to pour a bunch of that thick queso cheese sauce over it to moisten it up a little bit. On a scale of 1-10, the burrito was a 4. Also, they gave me a side of black beans on the plate, sampling them they tasted horrible, I just could not eat them. My wife's quesadilla the chicken was dry and there was little cheese on it. She felt like they cheated her on the cheese. The wait staff service was decent, the food was very disappointing. Our meal just wasn't worth the forty something dollars. The entire meal sucked. If I was to pass through this area again in the future I would not eat here again and I would not recommend this place. Food, service and ambiance exceeded our needs. When my request for no tomatoes with the fish I had ordered didn't work out, they suggested another meal, and they offered to replace the suggested meal if I didn't care for it. The food, service and ambiance were excellent. We were served tortillas with red fire roasted salsa & a green crema salsa both were delicious. I had the chicken fajita quesadilla and my husband had the steak fajita quesadilla. The meat was tender and the veggies were very flavorful. The rice was authentic as well with little pieces of carrot, corn and bell peppers in it. Highly recommend this place! We stopped here for lunch. We were seated right away and were offered the chips and salsa. As another review mentioned, the chips are a bit thick but they taste good. Personally I wasn't a fan of the second salsa(?). We had the carnitas plate and steak tacos and the food was delicious! The waitress was attentive and friendly. Every every time we have eaten at EL Jacal it's been great! my only small complaint is I feel the chips are a little too thick. Don't get me wrong. They've got a great flavor! Good thing the sea turtle killing plastic straw thwarted the attack. NSF 572-573 members mark matching cutlery couplet....in a duet of sophistication. Wrapped with a paper napkin to bring it back to a level less bougie. No clocks from our vantage. But there is roughly 3:59 left in the 1st qtr of the Packers v Cardinals game. And 3 chandeliers in close proximity that could light the National Cathedral. None the less, food was great. Service was a delight. We will return. Never skip on the green sauce with chips...that might cure COVID...if it weren't a hoax or some sort of ploy by OPEC #thanksobama. Get a damn clock please. What a rip-off. Service is horrible. Inattentive and untrained. When waiting for the bill, my "server" was off cleaning with earbuds in his ears. I had to wait a few minutes at the host station to get my bill. It's sad, but the food looks good, but does not taste good. Nacho cheese sauce drowned on greasy chips. The "steak" is the same thing as the "shredded beef," and had a strong liver flavor. It was practically ground beef. The rice was mealy, like it was either cooked a day or two ago, or was over cooked... almost a paste. Yuck I left 70% of my mega burrito on the plate with the gross rice. The puddle of cheese sauce on the nachos was like paste. I felt ripped off paying $45 for this crap. Never again, unless I am just drinking bottled beer. read more

A Really nice little Mexican restaurant with great ambience and feel inside. I wanted to like it but ordered takeout: the fajita plate, which was listed for a reasonable $14.99 but then I asked about the sour cream and guacamole, the lady on the phone told me there's a small medium and large. I chose the medium & was surprised when I saw the little suffle~ cup of sour cream for $1.29. I had to walk back in to kindly ask for an additional small cup. Also I asked for flour tortillas and after getting back to the hotel room I find corn tortillas . Also, I was really bummed out after getting 2 different salsas neither of them had any heat. Customerservice was very pleasant and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. So maybe I just ordered and came in at the wrong time. read more

DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY. It took 1hr 20min to get my delivery. When it arrived they forgot my drink. I said don't worry just credit me back. I then discover they forgot part of the order. I called back to let them know part of the order was forgotten. I assumed they would just send someone else with the items they forgot(chips and salsa and a drink). Having just hit the 2 hr mark I called in. I was given a lot of excuses about how busy they are. They did not offer to comp or discount my food so it is fair to say I don't plan on eating here again. Luckily there are several other Mexican restaurants in town. Either they need to train the employees better in customer service or they need to find new managers. 2hr is ridiculous. Worst service ever! We asked to sit in the front area and was told they needed to clear a table. There was a table avaiable already but we were told to sit in a waiting area in the middle of the restaurant. The smoke detector needed a new battery and was beeping right where we were sitting. No one working there seemed to care. We sat there for about 20 min listening to the beeping, and I finally asked how the table was coming. I received a rude reply from the waiter that he was busy working on a to go order. After another 10 min we were finally seated. The staff seemed more interested in chatiting with each other than waiting on customers. The food took another 20 min to arrive. There were a ton of flies that were relentless while we were trying to eat. Over all it was a terrible experience and terrible service. When we paid our bill I was handed a portable credit card device and was asked if I would like to leave a tip!!!! Tips are for good service. read more

I just read an interesting article. It said never to eat at a restaurant that leaves food residue on its menus. Sure enough, we sat down yesterday to have a late lunch here. The restaurant was nearly empty and both our menus looked like they hadn't been wiped clean in ages. As my observations took in the rest of the place, I noticed the entire outdoor patio and the table next to us were empty and we watched through our entire meal as nobody bothered to clear the tables. The food leftovers just sat there and in the outdoor patio setting, the local birds enjoyed themselves by climbing on plates and snacking. I hope the dishwasher is in tip top shape. Our food arrived salty and bland (and the tired chips served with some sort of off putting sour green sauce which was putrid). Given the lack of hygiene, I couldn't help but wonder if I was tasting old grease in my burrito. Nope, never again. I'm sorry but the employees here need to wake up. I've found El Jacal to be variable in its food quality. I've had several decent meals, but they didn't stand out from the crowd (in a town with a sizable Latinx population). The staff is friendly, and reasonably accommating. That's all to the good. My most recent issue was with a take-out order for a dozen tamales. The price was right, but the tamales weren't. While it might make sense to unwrap the tamales on a hot plate for immediate consumption (and possible smothering with sauce), such is not the case for a bulk irder, which might be reheated before serving. The corn husks make a big difference in that case. In our case the first few (eaten immediately) were good enough, but the rest became inedible and disintegrated after they had cooled and been reheated. read more
