I found out about Casa del Senador through a recommendation from my cousin. I must say this place…read moreis really cool. I love when restaurants restore and repurpose historic houses and buildings. It's definitely something we love and appreciate back home in San Antonio. My immediate observation is that the place is beautiful and I love the old pictures of Piedras Negras on the walls. The menu is great and I loved the eggs Benedict I ordered. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the service was lacking. Our server was not friendly nor attentive. I'd love to go back and try more of their menu. Their chips and salsa are amazing, btw.

Best restaurant within 150 miles. Hands down. If you're…read morevisiting Eagle Pass or Piedras Negras I HIGHLY recommend this place. It's a must visit when in the area. I had heard a lot of great things about this place online and I finally got the time to come try it out. WOW. From the moment you enter you're blown away from how they've kept a lot of the original materials. The restaurant served many purposes such as house, President palace (city hall), among other things many years ago. When you walk in you see the elegance from furniture, to lighting, to decoration. They offer lower level, upper level, private rooms, and outdoor terrace. Beautiful! Usually restaurants offer chips and salsa. This place offered corn bread fritters with two different salsas. The corn bread fritters have small pieces of chicharrón (pork grinds) if you've never had them, I highly recomendable them! They have a bunch of different dishes that fit everyone's budgets. I was craving seafood so I got the Pulpo En Adobo, it's octopus grilled over fire and glazed in an adobo sauce. The dish comes with mashed potatoes and Spinach and Peanut salad. I replaced the mashed potatoes for Jazmin rice. I gulped this down with a fresh lemonade made to order! Everything tasted delicious! Once again, I can't stress this enough! This place is a must!

This place was recommended for authentic Mexican food. Please keep in mind there are so many…read moreregions in Mexico that one persons authentic food could be way different from another's. I found this place with no issues but parking was another story. I really didn't know where to park so I just parked next to the garage and thought that would work. lol. It did. I walked in and didn't know if I should seat myself so I just stood there and then I was told to sit anywhere. I chose to sit at a booth but after I got settled I realized I should have sat at a table because the table at the booth was too low and it slanted, sloped to the left. As I was looking around I noticed all the booths were like that. I decided to get the buffet. It was quick and I could see the food and decide accordingly. There was a good selection but I didn't see enchiladas. . . well what I think of as a traditional enchilada with cheese and sauce. I choose carnitas, picadillo, potato taquitos, caldo de rez, rice, carne guisado, and not sure if it was a taco or chalupa, and a lemonade. I didn't eat all this lol it was more so a tasting menu. Everything I had tasted good but I was missing that cheesy enchilada. I also had some chips and salsa. . . Red and a green guacamole type. They make homemade tortillas so I asked for two of each. I had so much food that I ended up taking the flour tortillas with me and ate them the next day. Staff were very attentive and the drink was sooo big they never had to come back to fill it. I didn't realize the buffet was $20. . . but if you can eat then it's worth it. I also didn't realize they had a menu to order from. If I'm in the area I'd give it another try.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The food was…read morehorrible--bland, lacking variety, and definitely not worth the $14.99 price for a single buffet. No pancakes, nothing kid-friendly, and no refills on drinks. Overall a very disappointing experience. I won't be coming back.
