My cousin and I visited your establishment Sunday, May 3, 2026. Upon entering, we were not greeted and were instead directed to a table in the back of the restaurant by a staff member. As we were seated, I noticed the table surface was wet. The staff member briefly attempted to dry it by fanning it with menus; he then drops the menus and silverware on the table, turns away to speak with another table, and left without addressing us further. At no point were we acknowledged, helped, or provided with basic courtesy. Due to this experience, we chose to leave the restaurant. As a first-time customer, I found this treatment disappointing and concerning. I would like clarification on whether this reflects your standard level of service. Or is it just your black customers that receive this type of service. I would appreciate your response regarding this matter. My ribeye came out just how I asked, with a beautiful crust and tender inside. I liked that it had a natural beefy flavor without needing a ton of seasoning. The portion size was generous and left me full. Their wine list was small but had a couple solid options. The place wasn't too noisy and had comfortable seating. I came in here about 7:45pm on May 30, 2025. I ordered chips n salsa and a medium queso to go. I sit to wait. The guy who took my order brings me the check. Now I can do math $6.99 (chips n salsa) + $9.99 (medium queso) = $16.98 I don't look at the check and hand him a $20 because even with taxes I know it's gonna be less than $20. He stops and says it's more than that. So I look at the check properly. He's rang up the queso correctly but then also rang up guacamole instead of salsa. I tell him it's incorrect and hand everything back. He mutters something like he'll fix it but who knows. I could barely understand him. I sit back and wait an additional 10 minutes. Now they aren't busy or anything and nothing I ordered needs to be cooked. I start feeling impatient. Why did this guy finally come back with my chips just dumped in a raw plastic store bag and hand me the queso and salsa cups just how they are. Not nicely packaged or anything. I was stunned. I declined the change he tried to hand me and got out of there. I was already feeling apprehensive. I get home looking forward to savoring my treat. The chips were all stale and hard instead of thin and crisp and I swear I found something that looked like a twig in the bag with them. I have to wonder if this was someone's chips they were saving to take home. The salsa was watery and flavorless. The only part good was the queso. This was my first time at this establishment and I will not return. If chips and dip are too hard to get right I'm not risking a full meal disappointment. I threw most of it away. I should have gone to my usual Mexican restaurant but who knew you could get chips and dip so spectacularly wrong. So frustrating. read more

Check in/date of this review 2/10/23 A good, solid OkieMex restaurant. On our previous visit, we were very pleased with the food and service. I had the Chilis Poblano; large peppers filled with chicken and covered with cheese. A huge meal, with enough left over for tomorrow. I didn't check to see if they were still on the menu, but if they are I recommend them. We are back. Today we selected from the lunch menu. The El Maguey menu has many combinations; still offered at bargain prices. We had two #1 lunch specials (a chili relleno, beef taco and beans) and two sodas. It all came in at pennies under $20 (without a tip) Filling plates of delicious Mexican food. El Maguey is still one of the best Mexican restaurants in Claremore. read more

This is our family's favorite Mexican, hands down our favorite salsa! We have been eating here at least a couple times a month since moving to Claremore in 2007. This was our first, but definitely not our last, visit. The restaurant is tucked inside a shopping mall just off Hwy. 66 as you drive into Claremore from Tulsa. First impressions: there's a lot of Windows do the natural light flows in. The tables and booths are clean and there wasn't any trash on the floors. We were seated away from other customers in a second area they have. *I prefer when we go out to eat and they don't shove all the customers into one area. Of course you get the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was not hot and had a wonderful fresh flavor. We ordered the cheese dip, it was also not hot but was creamy and delicious. I ordered a house margarita, medium, on the rocks. It was an appropriate size and was not watered down, also not too strong with tequila. My husband ordered off of their make your own combo: tamales and enchiladas with rice (you can get rice and beans, but my husband's not allowed beans~ you know why! ). I ordered the taquitos: 2 beef and 2 chicken with rice (you can choose rice or beans). We didn't have to wait too long for our food. It looked wonderful. The rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly. My husband was impressed especially with the enchiladas, most other places make them so spicy he can't enjoy them. They were covered in a red sauce that had a sweetness to them. He felt like that helped balance the flavors. The taquitos were stuffed with shredded chicken and beef. I mean completely stuffed! They had lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole on top. We've been to all the local Mexican restaurants, this one has to be the best by far! Their staff was polite, service was fast, and it was the cleanest one we've been to. If you're traveling through, or you live close by and are looking for a place to eat, please stop by here.
