In NY I enjoyed the best Dom Rep food in Washington Heights. Some one at work recommended this place so I came for lunch. This place is a hole in the wall. They have a few pArking spaces behind it so that was cool. The place looked clean. They have a variety of typical Dominican dishes. Some examples are moro, chicharron, pernil, pollo guisado, white rice, chivo, bistec en salsa, chuleta frita, yuca con cebolla, vejetales con cebolla and of course mangu. All looked very tempting. I initially wanted the fritura or a chimi but opted for the moro because it looked nice and some chicharron. The girl charged me $7.00 for a pound of chicharron. ( thats over priced) and $4.00 for rice. They both came out to $11.00 which is overpriced for lunch. I asked for lemon for my chicharron and she didn't have any. How do you sell fritura and not have lemon? Wack! I also bought a pastelillo and alcapurria. Alcapurria is a PR thing. I should of known better. The alcapurria was soggy and the chicharron was mega greasy and bland. To the point were my chest was on fire with heart burn. The pastelillo de queso came fried with wrapped processed cheese in the middle. Not even real cheese. Yuk!! The rice was on point! I enjoyed that and ate it plain with nothing else. The portions are standard. The staff was friendly as they should be and had their hair tied back with nets. I give this place 3 stars because you can tell they're really trying. Need this to go Viral! Many of you know that both of my parents tested positive for COVID. My mother is currently in ICU And my Dad is not doing well either. For sometime now, I have been trying to get my parents to eat something. This has not been easy, I'm exhausted! Finally, yesterday my dad agree to eat . He asked me to buy him FRANKS PIZZA ON BLOOMFIELD AVENUE in Newark, NJ. The order was ready so I went to pick up. I parked for six minutes in the parking lot. I honest to God thought that parking belong to FRANKS PIZZA, the cell phone company and Mangu Restaurant. I promise you it was only six minutes. While I was parking, there was a women with a guy and some homeless lady. I came out of the car and said "hi". As I was returning to my car she put a boot on my car. I was very confused and dumbfounded. I asked her, who put this on my car. She smiled and said, I did. I said, please help me understand something, you saw me parking there and you couldn't tell me I could not park there. She said, no that's not my problem you can't read the sign. I asked her where is the sign. She pointed up. I said, listen I didn't see the sign because I'm desperate to get this pizza to my family. I explained my parents are in their 70's and 80's and have Covid. She said it wasn't her problem. I said, you are right it's not your problem, it's mine. I'm just trying to explain what I'm going through as anyone would understand only if they had a heart. I asked for the manager and supervisor and she said no one is around plus the owner of Mangu Resturant doesn't care about my story. She charged me $300.00 to remove the boot off my car. All I wanted was to get my parents their pizza. I'm not one to park anywhere because I respect peoples parking. I honestly didn't know this was a private parking. At least let me know. The guy who was with her responded, well if we don't put a boot than we can't run this business. I understand as I explain to him. If someone parks there and no one is around than I can understand putting a boot on their car, but you are standing right there looking at me and responded to my hi. It's really sad and saddens me, despite of the pandemic and the financial struggle, people like the Mangu owner would not empathize or have sympathy. Ordered for pickup on a Saturday at 5:00pm. I wanted to try their ribs-they were out of ribs! How could you be out of ribs at 5pm on a Saturday? Ordered the #5 and #10. The rice, fries and chicken was cold. The mashed plantains were terrible, bland and also cold. One and done. Will not be back again. Huge place, huge rent but unfortunately I believe they will be gone in less that 6 months. Gave 2 stars for the cleanliness and the girls behind the counter were very nice. Whoever the woman was walking around on the floor in front of the counter should have went out and bought more ribs and coke. They were out of Coke as well. read more

Had a couple of appetizers. And a couple of drinks. We chose shrimp and garlic sauce and Portuguese sausage. The food was very good. The sausage came to the table in a flame charring the sausage on the way to out table. The smell made my taste buds awaken.
