I had to go back to get an extra side of beans that didn't make it in the bag, but that's the first time anything like that has happened to us here and they were quick to fix it. We were staying at a campground near here and decided to eat out since it was so hot outside. Oddly enough we opted to eat outside on the huge covered patio. The temperature outside was really nice and even though there were some people smoking, the fans blew it away from us so it wasn't bad at all. Enough about the patio, the 4 of us ordered different meals and we all enjoyed our meals. My husband and I ordered Steve's Special chicken dish. The jalapeños were just right in the spice department and the chicken was thin and tender and juicy. We were all stuffed when we were finished. The guacamole was excellent! The service was awesome too. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because the salsa was just so-so and bland. I would have given them at least 4 1/2 stars if I could. It was edible, but still just ok. This place has a 4.5 star rating when I searched and they lived up to it!! The crabmeat is a joke because it's imitation but I've had to eat here 3 days in a row and it was SOLID everytime including the ice cream treat which I REALLY liked!! This is a great spot! I have visited El Mazatlan at this location a couple of times. The service each time has been fantastic. I enjoyed the food each time, but it is definitely not what I'm used to getting for Mexican food. I'm originally from the north valley of California, and we had a plethora of Mexican restaurants that ranged from authentic to Americanized, but nothing we had there was so far from the original than what I've had here. That said, I believe that the food served here is pretty typical for this part of the country. The food is tasty and well executed, just not what I am used to. read more

Service was terrible, manager was terrible, he didn't care. All excuses from staff. Waited 1.5 hours for our food, wasnt very busy, party of 4. Was getting up to walk out when our food finally came out and still didn't get all of the food to the table. Asked if they would take anything off for the wait and they took a drink off the ticket. The 2 is for overall experience. Food was ok, a solid 3...being southern Californians we entered with low expectations on authenticity, spice, etc but it was alright. There were other issues, however. S l o w...we waited for forever for our food once we finally were recognized and we ordered. 2 rounds of chips and mediocre salsa and 2 very substandard margaritas later, still no food. Probably covid related shortages of back of the house staff, but we were not the only people facing the same...heard one lady come in from the patio to ask where the food and their water were. Delicious salsa, nicely garlicky. We had lunch. $7.75 each. Reasonable. I had taquitos with shredded beef. Hubby had a chimichanga with shredded chicken. Both of us were satisfied with our meals. Both served with rice and beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, & sour cream. The restaurant has a pleasing environment. There is some outside seating available. I frequent the one on Nashville rd and it's always great. My first time ordering from this store was awful. The food was cold, the chille relleno was tough and impossible to eat. And overall it was terrible. Maybe they had an off day in the kitchen idk but I'm hesitant to give them another chance. I'll probably stick with the Nashville rd location. read more

Ehhh....not so good...or at least the dish that I ordered...The Matazlan Especial. It's mostly a fajita dish with two deep fried ribs thrown on top. News to the cook....you can't deep fry ribs! Ever heard of "low and slow"? I couldn't get the meat off the bone and I suspect my dogs will have their work cut out for them when I give them these two to wrestle with. The other meats were extremely salty and heavily seasoned with cumin. The shrimp were over cooked rendering them with the texture of a Goodyear truck tire. The restaurant itself is well lit and tastefully decorated. Now if you can only get that food thing down right you might have something. read more

Used to be my favorite. I get two orders to go every week. Same order for past few years. Quality is down a bit, quantity is almost half & prices have increased over 1/3! Just picked up our order & it was over $4 more than last week! I admit our order is never the same price from week to week, but usually the fluctuation is less than $1. The food looked delicious but it was the garnish that got me; SPIDERS!!! I was feeling quiet suspicious when my food came out after about 5 minutes of my choosing what I was eating. Also it was a busy night which made it even more suspicious. My exact order was 3 beef tacos and I already ate one but when I reached for the 2nd there was a live spider crawling. My family returned the plate and we went to the Chuy's across the street and it was delicious. Let me just start off by saying ElMaz is (was) my favorite restaurant in BG. My husband and I go there at least once a week. However tonight we went there and we were warned when we placed our order that they were slammed and the kitchen was behind, ok that's understandable. We wait about 45 minutes or so for our food, which is a very long wait for them. When you wait that long you expect the food to be correct and hot. It was not. Our shrimp quesadillas were swimming in grease from something and even though we ordered them with very light onions, very light peppers and no tomatoes, they were covered in them and so was our guacamole salad. We told our waiter they weren't right and he offered to have the kitchen fix them but we didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. So after trying to scrap all the veggies off and soak up the oil, we tried to eat them. I took one bite and it tasted horrible, it was cold, the shrimp was like rubber and it tasted like rotten fish oil, so I was done, so was my husband. So our waiter comes back and I told him this tasted horrible and we weren't going to eat them and I didn't want to pay for them. He said he was sorry, he knows they are wrong but the kitchen was so busy. He said he'd talk to his manager. So I'm thinking ok, they'll take care of it and we'll be good. No he comes back and hands me a $30 check and says his manager took 15% off for the problems. I said no, I am not paying for food I didn't eat and asked to talk to the manger. His reply was well you can ask up front when you go pay but "I've already talked to him". So when we go up front to check out she asked how was everything, I said it was horrible, worst food we've ever had here and I asked to talk to the manager again. Well low and behold here comes our waiter, no manager and he tries to bargain with me and says you pay for 1 dinner, I said no, you took our plates back they were full of food , you even agreed they weren't right, I don't think we should have to pay for food we didn't eat. So then he looks at me and say ok then points at my husband and says he pays for 1 dinner, again we said no and asked for the manger for a 3rd time. His reply was he's in the kitchen. My husband said ok, we'll wait. He then looks at us and says what do you want to pay. Nothing really, but I said we will pay for the cheese dip and the 2 drinks, I feel that's fair. He then looks at me and say, "don't take this out on me, this is not my fault". I said I understand that but it's not ours either. He then pressed on his card key thing really hard and printed off a receipt and laid it down really hard in front of me and said "there, again don't be mad at me, not my fault". I signed the receipt for our cheese dip and drinks and we left. I am so mad about the way they handled this and how we were treated, so rude. Like we should have to pay for food that wasn't right and we didn't eat, because it wasn't their fault. Well it wasn't ours either and I'm not sure we'll go back to this location, if to ElMaz at all. There are several other restaurants in BG that'd be happy to get our money and correct their wrongs. Very very disappointed! read more

Service sucked, took for ever to get food. They have a bar there and customer's at the bar where drunk and loud. Had my wife, Daughter and three Grandchildren with me. I'll never eat their again. Save your money and go somewhere better. read more

YUM!!!! Hit this place on the drive home from vacation. Well worth the detour off the interstate to get to it. Awesome food. Great service. Taqueria were large and hot from the fryer. Made my daughter a great vegetarian taco salad with fajita veggies. My son loved his nachos. Good prices. Especially for the high quality of the food. read more
