Visited a friend in Bowling Green and we stopped in here for dinner. It's a nice place - lots of seating and space, plus a pretty expansive menu. Our salsa was really good - we had the verde and it had a nice flavor to it. My enchiladas were pretty standard Mexican food. Nothing different about them from any other similar restaurant. I enjoyed my meal! Service was a little lacking - a few things weren't correct when they were brought to the table and my friend's dish, which she gets regularly wasn't made properly. When she asked for it to be remade, they told her that's how it comes. I might eat here again, but would probably try something new next time I'm in town. read more

I had the Carne Asada plate, my wife had the Enchiladas Rancheras, we had guacamole and pico de gallo, both plates presented well, my wife said the pork really set off the flavor, my food had a great flavor and the meat was actually very tender, we said give it a try! read more

We waited like 20 minutes for them to take our cards to pay for the food, we gave up and put cash in the table and left. The husband used to live in Bowling Green and ate here all the time. It's the kind of place where at least one of the managers still remembers him, even though that was a few years ago now. Since then, we've stopped by while passing through on various road trips, and El Maz never disappoints. The menu is a nice mix of standard Americanized fare (if you want rice, beans, and cheese sauce, you can get it) and more authentic dishes (I love their shrimp cocktail "soup"). One our most recent visit, they had a few new menu items, so I tried the shrimp taco lettuce wraps. Imagine a shrimp taco -- freshly perfectly cooked shrimp, pico, avocado, cilantro -- only in little lettuce boats. So not only was it super delicious, it was low carb, which is usually really hard to come by at a Mexican joint. Yum! The husband often asks for things that used to be on the menu, and they're always happy to accommodate. For instance, he got fried pork ribs without any issues. Service is always excellent, attentive, and FAST. Especially when we're on the road, it's nice to stop in and get a good, real meal, but not worry about losing a ton of time waiting around for a server. Chips and salsa appear instantly, food comes out quickly (but is clearly cooked fresh to order), and while you're free to hang out if you want, it's totally possible to just eat and run. Plus, it's not terribly expensive. For our meals, plus sides of guac and cheese dip and some kind of spicy sauce, it was only $32 plus tip. Not bad at all. Honestly, I really wish we had such a good Mexican restaurant where I live. I will always be happy to eat here, and if you haven't tried it, you should! read more

I came here with a few friends about a month ago, and I was very disappointed. They have 4 locations in bg, and I've been to all 4...this one by far is the worst. The waiter was extremely arrogant. He was also very bad at making sure we were taken care of with refills and whatnot. I got the chorizo chicken, and if you've ever had chorizo, then you know it's a spicy sausage. I needed more tea, and he would show up maybe every 12 mins, if that. I also failed to mention that we were there at 130 in the afternoon...so it definitely was not busy. I guess one of the positives is that it is an el maz so the interior decor is pleasing to the eye. The booths also arent accommodating for 4 people. The food presentation was also lacking. Everyone's food kind of looked like it was just thrown on the plate. The other 3 locations take pride in how their food is presented. If you want el maz, I'd probably go to a different location. I'm writing because I have had 2 bad experiences that are very alarming. Back in December my wife and I found a hair in the chip basket we were eating from. We decided to leave. Tonight (3/8/19) we tried this place for the second time. There was a hair in my meal - again. Our fajita order. This time in the sour cream, which was on the side plate with rice, pico, and lettuce. Like it was literally buried in the sour cream. I quietly found the manager and mentioned this to him. He seemed shocked that I would make such claims. Asked me what I ordered (whatever that matters), then seemed to not believe me after I showed him the disgusting hair. He said the people cooking were all guys and didn't have long hair. He then proceeded to go talk about us to his buddy's right in front of us about how we were wrong. I told him we were leaving. He made no attempt to rectify the situation. This manager actually seemed pissed I was having this conversation. I wanted to like this establishment, but I'm honestly so grossed out I can't ever eat here again. The lack of empathy and concern from the manager was a completely unprofessional and quite unbelievable. I assure you - this happened. We left after just beginning our meal. We had taken a few bites of a burrito and taken 5 bites of the fajitas. Two "hair" instances from the same restaurant is too convenient for me to fathom. I think this was done on purpose and if not, then I don't want to think about what other disgusting antics are going on. If you ever eat at this place, I highly recommend taking a close visual inspection before taking a bite. read more

Francisco the manager know how to make a mean margarita. .. I was on a bus trip to Nashville and on the way home the bus broke down and we were stuck in Bowling Green Kentucky for three hours. Lucky for us, we found El Mazatlan in walking distance. Our group started as just four but I think eventually we had a whole group of 20-25 invade their restaurant. ..well the bar anyway. The food...meh, it was fine for American Mexican same ole' combination of beans rice chicken beef sauce...you know, just compiled in different ways to make a different dish. It did come out fast and hot so no complaints whatsoever. Everyone seemed happy with their choices...I went with my standard "speedy Gonzalez" and it tasted pretty much like every other one I've had....kudos on consistency. The margaritas were the star of the show here. Big, delicious and strong....really really strong! Hey...we were on a bus remember? I would definitely order the "special" margaritas. ..and if you can get Francisco to make yours...his are the BEST! My mother is a fussy eater. While out running errands we decided to give it a try, as I love Mexican. She was hesitant. Large restaurant, with lots of room. No feeling of being cramped. Lots of room for large groups, with a large mix of tables and booths. Friendly and smiling staff. Our waiter kept our drinks and salsa filled and checked on us frequently. Food was delivered quickly and was fresh and hot. Portions more than sufficient and prices very reasonable. My mother is now a fan, as am I! read more

Delicious! It was not greasy which is typical with chorizo. Their basic taco was full of flavor. My other half ordered the Nachos Rodeo. So much food and had excellent flavor. We love this restaurant! Been to both locations in BG, and they're clean, comfy and cheery. They greet you like family. I've always been on the road when we come here, so I can't comment on the bar. Guacamole is great with fresh tomatoes and cilantro on the side. The corn chips were cooked too dark, so I've omitted one star. Good, fast, and cheap: that's how I like my Mexican food, and this is where I get it in Bowling Green. The salsa is kinda on the ketchupy side, but no other complaints so far. Well, they serve the cheese quesadilla on the plate with the bean burrito on the Vegetarian #4 and it tends to get soggy with ranchero sauce, but that is just a personal quirk of mine, not really a complaint. Just ask and I'm sure they'd fix that for you. Trouble is, I always forget. Therefore soggy quesadilla is my fault, not really theirs. Service is fast, which is awesome since I'm usually on my way to work. Atmosphere is casual and a little loud, but I don't have to listen to some brain damaging conversations at the surrounding tables-- I'm OK with that. read more
