If one happens to be traveling through Brownsville, Kentucky Mis Amigos is a place to seriously consider visiting. As Mexican goes, it's difficult to do it horribly or exceptionally. Mis Amigos lies solidly on the exceptional end of the spectrum. Service: excellent. The owner was serving as host, and clearly cares about his staff, even driving them to and from work regularly if transportation is an issue. Our server was efficient, knowledgeable, and got every custom order completely correct. Food: chips and salsa - yes. I judge Mexican places on their salsa, and Mis Amigos sailed through with a beautiful specimen - just the right amounts of heat and acidity. The menu is huge - definitely sometimes for anyone, regardless of food preferences and whims. There were no vegan options that spoke to me, so I ordered a custom vegan quesadilla with beans rather than cheese, filled with grilled veggies, and topped with guacamole instead of sour cream. Yes yes yes. Pricing: reasonable, especially keeping in mind portion sizes (very generous). Mis Amigos - thank you for giving me another reason to travel through (and to) Brownsville. read more

My husband and I had fairly low expectations, but man were we wrong! Really good local neighborhood Mexican, pleasant surprise as a tourist Tip: - This place does not serve alcohol (what gives??) - If you like serious spice, ask for the tomatillo salsa. If you can take the heat, it is an exceptionally flavorful salsa. Ambience: This place looks a bit questionable from the outside, I dare say even seems a touch seedy looking. The inside looks better but still has a slight tinge of this. Nevertheless, the staff are all extremely pleasant. The inside of this place is very colorfully decorated. Food (I'm vegetarian, fiance is not): There are a ton of options, typical of a neighborhood Mexican place. They bring a basket of what seem to be homemade chips and a mild homemade salsa. Very good. I had the vegetable fajitas and my fiance opted for veggie chimichangas. Both were very good. My fajitas were sizzling for forever, which is difficult for veggies as there's really no resident fat in it. I tried her chimichanga which had all the same ingredients in it, but had an entirely different taste. There's a good chef here. Overall: The food is 5 stars, the restaurant and the lack of alcohol were the only small quibbles. Do not judge a book by its cover! While the outside was a bit run down the parking lot was full (always a good sign) and the food did not disappoint. Taco pizza was delicious as were the fajitas. The place will not win any awards for decor but most places with great food won't. I eat here at least once a week and it is single handedly the reason I am fat! Have had everything at least once but the Nachos Locos are my favorite (Nachos with shrimp, chicken, and steak). 2/3 the price of all other Mexican restaurants but you get 1/3 more food. Thats right you have to know math to decode my review. If you don't like Mexican food they have good wings and burgers too. read more

Excellent food, very reasonable prices with large servings, fast service and very friendly people. Who would have guessed. This used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Bowling Green area. Some things have changed lately including the quality of their food. I order about everything but have a few favorites. The nachos locos been my favorite. The last two times I have ordered this I have been disappointed even though I order it with just chicken and shrimp it's still only comes with three small shrimp there used to be big and flavorful and seven or eight. Anything with shrimp in it now is a disappointment you're not marinated and they're small. I wish this was the restaurant used to be I loved it read more

As a west coast transplant and I love Mexican food. Bowling Green has the chain places, but they never had the traditional taste I remembered. Mis Amigos came to Brownsville and changed that. This is the taste I remember growing up with. Where do I start? The family favorite fajitas or Molcajete, Carnitas.... Nicely priced and you will not leave hungry. I ate here for the first time since it has been open about two months ago. There was a couple people in our party but despite that and despite the fact that the restaurant was moderately crowded The server still came and got our drink order only a few minutes after we sat down. Then only a few minutes after that she came back and got our food order and we got our food in less than 10 minutes after that. After reading good reviews, we tried this restaurant last Saturday for lunch. As one review said ,the decor is nothing special.The staff were friendly and courteous. The problem is the food. We love good Mexican food,and have eaten at Mexican restaurants in several states from here to New Mexico. At lunch Saturday,we had the worst Mexican food anyone has ever served us. My wife had the special dinner,a little bit of everything, and it was barely warm when served. The Chile relleno on that plate was spoiled and rancid. Nasty and disgusting. The meat in the tamales and enchiladas also had an off ,stale taste. I ordered the Tierra Loca,which arrived piping hot but quickly congealled into a solid mess. In short ,the worst meal we have tried to eat in years.We will NOT be going back. read more

We were driving back to Indiana after visiting Mammoth Cave. We were thrilled to find a Mexican Restaurant in the little town of Brownsville. But we were even more amazed when we tasted the delicious food - all reasonably priced. We were a family of 3 who have traveled in 49 States and most of Latin America and we can honestly say that the food here was among the best we have tasted anywhere.
