I was in town on a business trip. We stopped here for a late lunch on a Tuesday, around 3pm. We were the only patrons at that time and I believe they recently just reopened their dining room due to COVID-19. They appeared to be taking all the proper precautions for cleaning, wearing masks, etc which was good to see. We were greeted promptly and received super friendly service throughout our meal. We sat inside the small dining room, but they had some sidewalk seating out front, too. Their chips and salsa were delicious! Hot chips and fantastic salsa with the right amount of heat. I ordered the carnitas plate, which came with rice and beans. The carnitas weren't as flavorful as I would have liked and there was a LOT of fat to pick out. My coworkers tried a chicken quesadilla and fajita nachos. They were both really happy with their meals. We ordered our normal items. Added the new pizza to try. I always pay separately for Large cheese dip & Medium salsa so that we have plenty of chips. Tonight we were given 1 small quart bag of chips for 4 meals and the extra dips. When we asked for more we were told no. When I called back I was told that the manager said chips no longer come with salsa. Even if that made sense... you could only eat 1/8 of the cheese dip with the amount of chips we were given. I asked for the Managers name, I was told "Marky", no last name and no contact info. Very disappointed. read more

Service was great. It's a small place. We seated ourselves after the staff acknowledged us. We had salsa and chips quickly. Cheese dip was good. Guacamole is smooth which I like. I don't want a crunchy onion or tomato pieces in mine. And the shredded beef chimichangas were tasty. Overall great experience. Not at all satisfied with the last visit. I had higher expectations of the food. Order a big burrito with only meat cheese beans and rice when I got home I couldn't find no beans let alone a minimal portion of rice. When I return it to the store they had to pick out and find the beans for me and said oh here they are I had great expectations for food that I paid extra for I told them. I asked for a big burrito but then they start explaining to me portion size not satisfied at all with this visit. I've paid $15 for a burrito that I could've got a Taco Bell for seven dollars basically. I highly recommend Street Tacos for a real big burrito. They just happened to be closed. My family and I have take out from here once a month. The workers are always nice and the service is fantastic. The only issue that I have is sometimes on the weekend when they are busy, my order has been mixed up with other orders. The management always take care of the issue. Wow reading these comments just blows my mind. I mean seriously 'the best Mexican food.' Man you people in Tennessee don't know good Mexican food if it hit you in the face. Seriously, this is the worst tasting "Mexican" food I've ever had. Even my father who pretty much like most places had the exact same review as me, why does everything taste bland??? Being from Los Angeles I would definitely know a thing or two about food and the variety you can eat. Amazing spot, super fresh and clean taste. Staff was amazing and very accommodating and the Sopes were absolutely incredible!

It was our first and LAST time, to eat at El Mezcal, tonight. The service was poor. There were 4 in our party - and yet only 2 menus, 2 'sets' of silverware. Our server didn't check in to see how things were going, for quite a while -- and customer flow certainly wasn't the hold up!!! I had read reviews of how THIS is the BEST Mexican in Oakland, so was excited to experience it. Seriously???? The BEST???? Folks need to get out more, if THIS is THEIR BEST!!!! The food had ZERO seasoning. ZERO. In our group, we had: steak fajitas, pork burrito, chicken burrito, steak fajita quessadilla. ALL of the proteins were dry, chewy, and again, had NO flavor. The silverware consisted of a fork only, which made cutting those dry, chewy, flavorless proteins pretty difficult, and damned near impossible. To add insult to this misery of a dining experience, 2/4 in our group ended up with gastric upset. Wish there were negative stars - I'd give tonight -10. read more

Read some good reviews of this place and decided to try it out, the food is great, it was hot and fresh tasted very good. I was totally happy with with my meal and will be making El Mezcal a regular stop. read more
