I ordered chicken nachos and steak taco dinner. The nachos where swimming in canned cheese sauce and soupy refried beans. The taco dinner and whole onion slices all over it plus chopped onions. Oh and soupy refried beans as well. I called to complain and the person that answered the phone said ...Well that's how it is... Like are you so serious. We won't be returning to El Oasis. So disappointed in the food and service.

Very stingy on meat. They overfill their burritos with rice and a very small amount of meat. Rip off. Not coming back.

Highlights of this trip: - excellent beans and rice - cheap price for taco's Came to El Oasis because my nephew wanted to get some Mexican food. We pulled up, parked, waited in line and went with the following items. - Dinner Special (3 tacos with Carintas, rice and beans) - Tostadas with Pastor - Chips and Salsa - Pork Tamales - Torta I was told taco's were small, so I ended up ordering more then usual. Here's what I thought based upon my first experience. - Chips were good, salsa needed some more seasoning; could have used more Lemon and salt. - Pork Tamales - good, lot better then other joints, recommend. - Torta - my nephew had it, he said it was good. I'll have to try it next time. - Tostadas - it was decent, was disappointed because the el pastor(pork) was dried out so the overall dish was just decent. - Dinner Special - 3 tacos, rice and beans, the rice and beans were excellent, a lot better then lot of other Mexican joints that I've tried. Two prices - lower price for the regular meats, upcharge for special meats. I got all my 3 tacos with carnita. While the meat was perfectly cooked, and moist, it lacked seasoning and was on the bland side of the taste aisle. Highlight of this visit had to be the beans and rice, they were excellent, a lot better then a lot of other Mexican joints. While Carnita was good, it lacked flavors and el pastor was dried out. I'm hoping this was just one off day and I'll have a different experience on my next visit. Expect to wait. Was told it'd be 10 minutes to get our food, but honestly with just one person preparing one order at a time, it took 30 minutes to get our food and 10 minutes to consume it. Order at the window, wait, pay when you pick up the food.

Love this truck. Everything I have tried is great. Only problem is other people know this and the line can be long. Worth it.

The broth had a wonderful thickness and so much flavor. I almost wanted to drink it straight out of the bowl. The burritos were filled and delicious. They had an elote cart featured tonight. It was out of this world! One of the waite staff was so very kind. The restaurant itself may look a bit dated or worn but trust me the food totally makes up for it. Run don't walk to eat at this place!

CLEANLINESS: CUSTOMER SPACES (lobby, seating): Appeared clean BATHROOMS: Did not use SERVICE AREAS (kitchen, behind counters): Did not see. STAFF: SERVER: Younger male. Very nice, was attentive, pleasant. HOST/HOSTESS: She was very friendly. OTHER (manager, buser, bartender): Did not have any other interactions. SERVICE: Service was good, server was very nice with any questions we had. *** What we didn't appreciate was when it was time to pay the bill, the server brings out the handheld payment tool (like a lot of restaurants use now), server holds the tool so my husband can see and stares at the tool, watching my husband choose what tip amount etc. It automatically defaults to a 20% tip and then increases from there for tip choices!! We felt very pressured and awkward with this. We like to take our time and figure out how much we want to leave based on service not feel "pushed" into choosing one of the pre chosen percentage amounts (especially if they default to a minimum of 20%)!!! The server needs to leave the tool at the table walk away or stand farther back so the customer can privately pay. FOOD &/or BEVERAGE: Birria Taco Dinner TASTE: tacos were very good, flavors of the meat was amazing and that dipping sauce was so good! Beans and rice were basic (nothing different than other places). SIZE: average PRICE: $15.99 Chimichanga TASTE: chicken meat was very flavorful, overall was a very delicious chimichanga. SIZE: average PRICE: $16.99 Basic Burrito TASTE: ground meat was very flavorful, asked for only meat and cheese (normally comes with beans and rice inside) and it had a small amount of beans inside :(. Overall was a delicious basic burrito. Note that this burrito is served dry not wet. SIZE: average PRICE: $9.99 Burrito Chaparrito TASTE: shredded beef was very flavorful, asked for little beans but seemed like the normal amount, also has rice topped with cheese (this is not a wet burrito). Overall was a very good BUT this is the same as the basic burrito except you get cheese on top of this one (which costs you an extra $8.00!!), if my husband would have known that, he would have just done the basic burrito too! SIZE: average PRICE: $17.99 OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paid $80 for our family of four. Food is very good. Staff were very kind. Didn't appreciate the check paying experience (full explanation under service). WOULD I RETURN? Possibly, but we would not make a special trip.

El Arbol is definitely a cool spot visually, and I really wanted to love it based on all the great…read morereviews. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was much better than the food for us. The restaurant itself is bright, colorful, clean, and really well designed. I loved the clever bench seating, the bar was well stocked, and there's outdoor seating plus an upstairs area that looked really cool. They also have a walk-up taco window outside, which is a fun idea. We sat in the bar area, and the service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The food, though, was really underwhelming. Almost everything we tried lacked seasoning and flavor. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which had very little chicken and were pretty bland. I did like the very thinly sliced jalapeños on top. The rice was nice and fluffy but didn't have much flavor, and they serve black beans, which just aren't my preference with Mexican food. The house-made salsa was surprisingly sweet, and I was disappointed that the chips didn't seem house-made. If I'm going out for Mexican food, fresh chips are one of those little things I really look forward to. My husband ordered tacos at $6 each, which felt pretty steep considering we're used to excellent tacos in the $2-$3 range. His carne asada was cooked closer to medium rare, which wasn't what we expected at all from carne asada. The queso was another disappointment. It tasted very similar to Rico's cheese sauce you can buy at the grocery store. Overall, great service, great decor, very clean and a fun atmosphere, but the food just didn't match the setting or the reviews for us. At these prices, I expected a lot more flavor. Unfortunately, we left pretty disappointed.

Let me explain. The place is conveniently located downtown Charlotte with plenty of parking. If there's no street side parking out front, there's a big lot out back too. It's a good size restaurant with lots of seating inside, but there's also an outdoor patio if that's your thing. The menu has just about anything you would typically want from a sit down Mexican restaurant, and a sizable drink menu also. The place is relatively clean and the restrooms are usually kept up. I've never had a meal or bad service. Sounds like everything you'd want in a restaurant. But honestly, that's how things are supposed to be. I expect the place to be clean. I expect the staff to be polite. I expect the food be good. These are all standard things. A 3 star review is just that, standard. Anything higher would be above and beyond. I just don't think this place or the food is above and beyond. There's a couple other Mexican restaurants nearby, so I'd figure they'd step their game up a notch. Unfortunately I don't see it. I'll eat here again, because I like it. They are in fact better than the other places. But the other places lessor reviews don't automatically add stars to this one. Do average, get average.
