Robbinsville is a very small town location in North Carolina very close to the famous Tail of the Dragon. We stayed one night to ride the Dragon and other well known scenic roads. After spending 5+ hours on the bike, we made it to our room to change and seek out some food. Options are very limited and I did not want fast food. Reviews seemed pretty good, so Mexican it was! Upon arrival, we were greeted promptly and sat at a table. The ubiquitous chips and salsa arrived. We ordered the chori cheese dip and the al pastor tacos. The dip was bubbling white cheese dip with a generous portion of crispy chorizo mixed in. It was delicious! The tacos were seasoned grilled pork and pineapple stuffed into soft, homemade corn tortillas. They were served with rice, beans, onions, lime, cilantro and a hot sauce. For those like me who are spice weaklings, the al pastor has a little kick that builds as you eat. Take some heartburn meds and enjoy it! I loved the sweet bite from the pineapple and the super tender tortillas. The place went from almost empty to packed while we were eating so it took a few minutes to get boxes and the check because the employees were walking around non-stop. We took leftovers back and the restaurant provided to go utensils upon request. Our hotel provided "breakfast" but in reality was prepackaged microwaveable items due to Covid. Luckily our leftovers were still good the nuked in a hotel microwave at 8am before the day's rides! read more

This place is phenomenal I had the Chile poblano and enchiladas a few days ago and wow! Never expected that kind of flavor one of the best I've had, the Chile was so fresh and snappy.. service was good for the amount of people that came with me and that where there. Today I had the chicken soup and the carne asada and I must say DAYUM!!! The Chile they give you is grilled and seasoned to perfection, the grilled onion and nopales make a perfect combination with the asada which has really good flavor! Very good old school Mexican restaurant. All the choices are there. Everything is surprisingly good. The salsa is fresh taste, the cheese dip flavorful and rich. The entrees are hearty and very tasty. Not fancy versions of the old school Mexican food classics just very well executed with rather high quality ingredients. The steak burrito was large with good sized pieces of meat. The ingredients were well proportioned. The result was that the flavors could be tasted. The friendly service was a pleasure. I was seated promptly, chips and water were brought right away The chips were refilled quickly. The courteous and helpful server took my order as soon as I was ready. My food came out fast and hot. We had a hard time figuring out where to eat here. A lot of places were closed but we came to drive to Tellico Plains. We stopped here after reading some reviews. It looks like a typical Mexican restaurant and the menu isn't very different. I really liked their table salsa. We ordered a tamale to start and it was literally the best one I've ever had. I don't take saying that lightly. Usually they're kind of "meh" and not much flavor to them. Like unflavored corn and lacking in filling. This was moist, flavorful and had a really good sauce on it. I got the chorizo tacos, they tasted like beef and not pork. Which is okay but not what I expected. They were so generous with the meat that I couldn't have possibly eaten it all. I do love they serve it traditional style without all the cheese, sour cream and iceberg lettuce. Instead I got lime, onion, cilantro and salsa. They also served it with yellow rice and beans, super traditional and good. He got a pork dish that we both tried and it was funky. Just didn't seem right. We didn't want to make a big deal about it and caused a scene so we didn't tell them until we were done. They said they got a new supplier and they didn't make us pay for that dish. They are really good people serving decent food at a decent price. They do really well w/ what they are able to get here in the mountains of WNC. It's not like we have a farmer's market w/ wholesale prices anywhere within a sensible distance! As being in the restaurant biz here before, you are limited with food trucks & whatnot, but it's gotta be much more challenging not being a franchise, but it does give them freedoms! I think their burritos are good, the chimichangas can be REALLY good, fajitas are great when not over-cooked & the chicken soup is unforgettable! Wow! In cold weather, I urge you to consider it (also great to go!)! Their Queso dip is really, really good, too, but It's really thick cheese, so what could be bad?! read more

Steak Ranchero was tough and too spicy. They neglected to give us any utensils or napkins with our to go order. By the time I drove all the way back for utensils our food was cold. They were completely unapologetic. They didn't have any paper plates so the food could not be reheated in the aluminum tins. Will not go there again. read more

Kind of an interesting experience coming here. You know how some restaurants have candy jars at the front where you pay? Well our server kept shoveling out pieces of candy like it was buried treasure and kept shoveling them into her mouth as often as she breathed. Must have been dang good candy. I should've tried some. The service was speedy and excellent, and the food quality was superb! The Tacos Al Pastor were the best tacos I have ever had! The tacos were extremely flavorful and filled my empty stomach. In the midst of a day of driving through the mountains photographing the magnificent fall colors, my traveling companion and I decided to stop in Robbinsville for lunch. After driving through town to scope out the culinary offerings, we settled upon El Pacifico for lunch and are we glad we did. The parking lot was jam packed and there were many folks inside enjoying their lunch, but that did not slow the service down. The menu is absolutely huge, so it took about 15 minutes to digest it to the point that we could make our choices. While waiting, we were served with the BEST, hands down, salsa I have ever tasted since moving to the South from California. I wanted to bottle it up and bring it home. We ordered a chorizo cheese dip to accompany the chips which was INCREDIBLY ASTOUNDING & DELICIOUS! My meal was a beef taco, chili rellano, beans and a guacamole salad. They were very good, even though the relleno did not have an egg batter around the outside. My friend had the Maya pie dinner which was all sorts of beans, pork carnitas and chorizo yummy goodness sandwiched between two 10" flour tortillas, topped with fresh avocado, tomatillo and cheesy sauce. Our server was friendly and attentive. The inside was pleasant and very clean. The entree prices are all quite reasonable and if it weren't so darn far from Knoxville, I'd eat here once a week. For where this place is located I think it's really good. It's hard to find vegetarian/vegan restaurants in such a small area. It also has a ton of non-vegetarian options too, so it's good for everyone. If you're anywhere near Deaps Gap and want something to eat, I definitely recommend here! It's not too far from Deals Gap, maybe 20-30 minutes, but if you're really hungry it's worth it. Inside is pretty big, they play fun music, good food. The servers are friendly and helpful. Tons of options on the menu for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I feel like Mexican is always an easy place to make food vegetarian. Everything came out really quickly and the chips/salsa- YUM. The food wasn't bad, but the service was awful. Our food took nearly an hour; we were a party of 7, so I understand that it might take longer, but it took them 45 minutes to let us know that carnitas we not available, and two of us would need to change our order. The real reason I'm leaving such a bad review though is that when our food was delivered, it was brought out by a guy who was wearing neither mask nor gloves. He touched one of the woman's food with his bare hand. In this day of pandemic, this is unacceptable for a restaurant. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The one star can be for the clean painted walls. The food was horrible. I don't care if it is in the middle of the woods. The service was good though. The complimentary chips and sauce arrived promptly after being seated. While chips did not have the stale texture they did have very stale taste. The (salsa) was not salsa. It was unseasoned tomato water with a few bits of onion and what looked to be dried parsley since it could not have been cilantro. We ordered a bean dip. A large bowl of white queso was brought to the table. We dredged a chip into it to find at least an inch layer of cheese sauce poured over maybe a quarter cup of beans. The meats in our sauce covered corn and flour tortillas tasted as if it had been well preserved with lots of salt. I was hungry and tired so I asked for some limes to put on the meat in an attempt to make it more palatable. The side dish of cilantro that was served with my meal was still on the stems and most of it was yellow. As for the rice and beans. The beans may as well have been mud while the rice looked like old dried up left overs from last weeks supply. I did not even bother to try the rice. Lime juice was not going to help either of these two items. Oh and it's a dry county. The local government does not think I am responsible enough to consume an alcoholic beverage at the age of 40. What year is this area living in? If your traveling through the area and must eat. Visit the local grocery store or one of the few fast foods places. read more

Uhhh first off can I say HOLY SPELLING ERROR on the title, it's called El Pacifico...like the ocean. I submitted the change so it can easily be found because damn...I was completely confused at first. This is an odd spot, but really really good. We parked across the street to not have to deal with the tight parking. It's bigger inside than the exterior would indicate. The service is kind of brusque but that might be due to a slight language barrier and it's not really a big deal since when you compliment the food, they know that you like it. I ordered the chile poblanos, stuffed with shredded chicken and topped with cheese and some kind of sauce. They were freaking amazing. For eight bucks or so, I had two big poblanos stuffed full of chicken, plus rice and beans. It says it comes with tortillas on the menu, but I didn't get any. And that's okay because there's plenty as is. Prices are typical for Mexican food, and they could charge me $20 for a typical Mexican restaurant combination plate and I would be happy. Hidden gem in the backwoods of the Smokey Mountains. I like Mexican food, have a spot I go to almost every Friday for margaritas and chips/salsa at home in Orlando. This place may give it a little run for the money. Again, this is not a chain nor do you have a three or four star chef...but it is mom and pop with some good flavor And good variety on the menu then your traditional Mexican food menu. I tried the "Street Tacos".... Yummy!!! Very impressed with this dish of three pulled pork tacos and the sweet sauce added on the side.
