If you take nothing else from my review: get the margarita tower for your group here!! It's delicious and a crazy good deal!! Came here on a Friday night for dinner out of convenience, and it far exceeded our expectations. Our server Andres was so welcoming and attentive and fun. He saw our group and highly recommended the margarita tower, which we loved. The tower was $32. We got the mango flavor. Between the five of us, that totals to a little over $6 per person. The tower itself got us each 3 full glasses per person, which if you do the math, totals a little over $2 per drink. For our food, we loved the chorizo tacos and tacos al pastor the most. Everything else was pretty standard. There is lots of colorful casual decor everywhere, and they had a really lively birthday party across from us. I'd definitely recommend for a celebration or a fun dinner out with friends, especially with that margarita tower!! And we love Andres!! read more

Great fresh food with healthy portions. The best Mexican in Haiwassee or Hayesville. The chicken soup is phenomenal‼with tons of chicken. Don't spend more to have a lake view. El Charro has a great atmosphere and the food was tasty with big portions. We always enjoy free chips + salsa. Everyone in our group mostly enjoyed their meal. One dish, El Majo de Ajo, stated the shrimp was sauteed in garlic. It had such a thick coating of garlic that it looked breaded at first. I love garlic, and it was pretty good, but it was a bit too much. It left a garlic taste in my mouth for an extra day. On a good note, I was not visited by any vampires in that time. I have been here several times now as it is close to my house. I have been happy every time! It has been just me, takeout for me, my wife and I, and a group as large as 10. Service is always good. With cold beer and good margaritas. The food has always been fantastic! I get the Pollo El Charro. It is so dang good. And is a large portion. Everyone I have been with has loved their food also. Our party of 11 arrived at our scheduled reservation time of 1830. Seating took a few minutes due to the restaurant being packed. The menu had an extensive list of choices. I ordered two chimichangas and was disappointed by the lukewarm temperature, taste, and texture. They were covered with a non-descript white cheese sauce which made them soggy. While the accompanying chips were crispy, the salsa was rather bland. A major mistake was made on my grandson's bean burrito, and my older granddaughter's order arrived after most of us were finished. read more

We went based on a recent review applauding the Poblano Chili / Chili Relleno. We had to check it out! It was excellent! Sauce was great, cheese is melt. Breading is great but could be crispier but oh my gosh... so much more what I've been searching for. Enchilada sauce was more robust than most local restaurants and was really great ! Very basic TexMex, very well done: the beans and rice are seasoned properly. Service attentive and respectful. The atmosphere open and bright. They make chiles poblano like I found in New Mexico: roasted chilies stuffed with cheese, battered, fried, sauced: velvety and flavorful, The burritos Mexicanos are a favorite: basic beef and bean, in queso, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream. Just opened. Not excellent, but good food. Salsa was a little thin. Authentic tacos were good, no grilled onions on them minus, but they do have tomatillo sauce, so plus there. It's in an awful spot for visibility, since we've lived here I think they're the 5th restaurants here. Unfortunately our little four town are already has 6 Mexican restaurants, so they're a seventh. For a small town Mexican place it's a good choice. Seems to draw a big crowd. The A/C wasn't working in one of the rooms and the windows were open - not a very comfortable setting for July 4th weekend! The enchilada sauce was memorable - just the right amount of sweet and spicy. read more

We are no stranger to El Charro--but the last two times have been quite disappointing. Last time it was a very rude server and I thought I would not go back again, but a group wanted to go so I did. Well, this time the food was not its usual quality. My food was so-so. We were a party of six and one meal came out. She didn't want to start eating until we were all served. Then another meal came out like 5 or 6 minutes later. So two of them just sat staring at their food. Then two more came out like another 10 minutes later. We encouraged the others to start eating while it was hot. The fifth meal came out another 5 or so minutes later. Everyone but one had their food. Service was good from this young lady, it wasn't her fault the food was so slow coming out. One guy's food was awful and he asked the server to take it away almost immediately. He explained it wasn't good. The server said nothing and just removed the plate. No offer to replace it with anything. He went to pay his bill and told the man at the register and his response was, "Well, we were busy." Ok--so we won't get good food there when they're busy? I gave it a second shot, but now I'm done. read more

Some of the most flavorful Mexican food I've ever had. Service was a little slow at times but my waiter was waiting on a large party. No place else will ever be as good as Southwestern US Mexican food, but El Charro comes close. In fact, maybe the best in the area. Tried the stuffed poblano chili pepper and a tamale on the side, both were amazing. Usual go-to is the three taco special for $8 including rice and beans. Full bar with great prices on beer and drinks, served by focused yet friendly and helpful staff. We usually bring our dog along and sit outside on the patio, with service just as fast and efficient as inside. read more

Waitress was unfriendly, fajitas came out ten minutes before the pico plate so everything was now overcooked and cold. The coffee as well was not hot, Luke warm at best and the cheese dip was watery. Oh and no flavor to anything. read more

Came in at 8:30 pm and the kitchen was still open so that is a huge plus. We were seated right away and our meals were huge-- great value for the money. And they were both very tasty. I made my first visit on Thursday, March 28, and I was not disappointed. The vast menu selection took me a minute to make my selection. Everything our table ordered came out in a timely manner and was delicious. I had the Tamales and were very good, my wife had a vegetarian dinner, which she really enjoyed, another couple had the Fajitas, for 2, and that is what I will have on my next visit. The Fajitas for 2 looked delicious and it was ample portion. Only one word of caution, we sat in the back with a beautiful view however, a large group had been seated at 2 large tables and made for a very loud and disruptive meal. So the back room has a wonderful view but double check to see that no LARGE GROUP is seated. Last, great margaritas. read more

Decent atmosphere, nice bar and clean restrooms. The food I had was also decent and the price was fair. Didn't get the extras for the plate I ordered but was charged for it. When I am out with other couples and they are having to correct the server for mistakes I would just rather keep it to myself. No big deal just won't return. Also, no prices on alcoholic beverages which puts you awkward position. I don't mind paying but am budget minded. Note to servers, it's the little things that build that gratuity up. read more
