We've been pleased every time we've eaten here, and today was no exception. They have the best Caldo that I've had so far. The veggies in the soup are FRESH and the broth is delicious. The bits of beef are always tender. The Caldo is served with tortillas and rice. I like to add fresh chopped jalapeño, onion and cilantro from the salsa bar to my Caldo. I pulled up and waited for 2-3 minutes waiting for someone to come over the speaker and I finally had to pull up to the window. Just went there for a late lunch today. The Barbacoa burrito was AWESOME!!! I've had barbacoa other places and I always like it but this was the best. Tender, juicy and oh so flavorful. Everything was really fresh including the guacamole. Cheap too, the burrito had to be at least a pound and it only cost $3.50. I could only eat half! It's really clean everyone was friendly. El Paisa is a welcome addition to the Mid Cities restaurant scene. The food is authentic and a great value. My favorite are the bistec, barbacoa and al pastor tacos wrapped in double corn tortillas. The core tacos are $1.25 each, but you'll pay a little extra if you want lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. The tortillas are warm and fresh, while the meats are nicely seasoned. The house sauces (roja and verde) are also fresh and flavorful. I've also had the Puerco Roja (? - I think that's what they're called)... chunks of pork in a spicy red sauce with rice and beans. Simple and tasty. Great queso and homemade chips. In nice weather you can grab a table on the patio. Service is order at the counter. BYOB! read more

YUM. I love street tacos, so I had pretty high expectations when we decided to go here. Definitely delicious food for an affordable price. The ambience is that of a traditional Mexican restaurant, which means the food is probably authentic as well. I was full, but I had to try one of their tacos. I got the bistek on corn tortilla, and it was amazing!! They do not skimp on the meat at all, and the tomatoes and lettuce tasted super fresh. My coworker had the quesadilla plate, and she couldn't stop raving about it. This will definitely be one of our regular lunch places now! We wanted to try local/ new to us. After driving by this place for two years we finally stopped in. The usual warning sign of pictures with food as a cautionary sign did not apply. The quesadilla tasted of authentic Street food. The Flauta was dry with lettuce instead of cabbage so not great, but good flavor filling. M had cheese the enchiladas and rated them a 6 on a scale 1 to 10. I want to come back for breakfast burritos. I'll give them another try for the pupusa plate and the chili relleno. Used to come here all the time...but will not come back ever! 2nd time I had something wrong with my order now in the last few weeks going through the drive thru... I was over charged and order was wrong and had to waited an additional 20 mins...so last nite I ordered 5 chicken tacos...I got home and noticed I was charged for and given steak tacos...which were horrible packaged. I tried calling the restaurant and got a voicemail then called next day which is today and same thing... I called the Grapevine location to see why I kept getting the voicemail...the female could barely understand what I was saying and could bot give me a corporate number nor her name...then she call the Harwood location and the guy answered. This comes with numerous choices for filing - barbacoa, ground beef, fajita, et. al., and is served with rice and beans. Adding chips and salsa is just another $1.50. And another real winner here are the proprietary sauces made fresh, and kept in a small mini-fridge by the front counter. A hot and flavorful red and amazingly tasty verde sauce that go great on the food. Alright, so being a California native, especially a San Diegan.... I am pretty hard when it comes to rating mexican food in Texas. And Yes, I do understand that Tex-Mex is a completely different cuisine. But El Paisa is so far the closest thing to San Diego mexican I have come too. Its almost brings a tear to my eye. I love going and ordering a couple of tacos, especially the lengua (tongue) and carnitas (pork), they come with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. You can choose a combo, but I just have the individual ones. I love the lengua plain, with a squeeze of lime and cilantro, truly yummiful!! I don't leave without ordering a side of chips and salsa and a large horchata. This place has drive thru and sit down area. The staff is nice, service is fast, I usually stop in and order to go, i don't live far so the food is still hot and delicious when I get home. If you have ever been to Mexico or California, this place will remind you of home. Unless you come to my house, and I cook. HOLY COW BATMAN! You NEED to try their breakfast tacos, they are effen delicious! I order the bacon, cheese, egg, taco and add potatoes to them. Then you add the tasty red salsa, and you literally sigh with comfort. If you are feeling a little adventurous or have a serious hangover in the morning, roll up to El Paisa and have these tacos, you won't regret it. Damn, now I want some. read more

I have been holding off on reviewing this place thinking that it was just too good to be true, that somehow I had just gone on a good day, but I have now been here 4 times and every time have had such a wonderful experience! I have ordered the Steak Fajita Torta Dinner every time I have gone so I can't speak on anything else, but if that's the bar that I measure everything else up to, then the rest of the food must and has to be GREAT! First off, their sandwich bread is served warm and toasty with a touch of fluffiness to it (which is how ALL bread should be), and in between is a bed of flavorful fajita steak, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and tomatoes that will make you salivate. Their homemade chips and salsa are the perfect side dish to any meal and their iced tea has ALSO yet to let me down. I just can't believe that they only have 2 locations, and the fact that 1 of those is in a gas station just adds to this modest yet excellent Mexican restaurant. Find a way to eat here. Love the Bedford location! I am always on the hunt for good street taco joints nearby and this one has been on the list to check out for quite some time. It's kind of one of those places you would drive by and never really think to go explore it. It's just traditional, authentic, good old fashioned Mexican tacos. Give me all of the cilantro and all of the onions. I guarantee you will walk out of this place smelling like herbs and spices. I am loving all of the different salsas and hot sauces as well, they have the perfect amount of heat to 'em. Get the barbacoa and chicken tacos! The taco plate for lunch is plenty and will only set you back about 5 bucks or so. The beans and rice honestly I could skip but the tacos were definitely worth the splurge. Despite my two stars, let it be known that every fireman, police officer, and EMT within 20 miles made a stop here during our breakfast, so it's definitely hitting the spot for our local heroes! There were limited veggie options, so I got the huevos a la Mexicana with the intent of giving the refried beans and rice on the side to my hungry, hungry husband. You order, then sit and wait for them to call your number, although it seemed like everyone dining in had their food brought out to them. I asked for extra salsa and was told there was salsa at the condiments bar. They brought out my food, and it was wrong, so while my husband ate his burrito, I went in search of salsa. And there wasn't any. There was pico and assorted toppings like onion and lime, but no salsa. I did notice that other diners had squeeze bottles on their tables that looked like they might hold salsa. They did not have anyone busing the tables, so I went and snagged a couple from tables that had left. It wasn't salsa so much as chunky varieties of hot sauce. They were good, and I'm glad I got them, because my huevos were pretty damn bland once I finally got the correct order. My husband liked the rice and beans, but I wouldn't have eaten any of his potato and egg burrito if you paid me. It looked like a crappy gas station burrito. So my complaints are not a lot of veggie options, slow-ish service made slower by making the wrong dish, lies about salsa, a sense of uncleanliness due to the abundance of unbused tables, and food that just didn't knock my socks off. Me and wife go try a new Mexican restaurant every Sunday for lunch. Since we are both Texas Transplants, we have yet to find a restaurantt o where we both go "WOW....THIS IS THE PLACE!!" So we hit up Yelp every Sunday and look for a new place. Yesterday, we tried El Paisa since it has good reviews. I initially disturbed because the lime bar was absolutely demolished and we waited at the counter for 2-3 minute while we waited for the cashier to fnish filling ice and stocking sodas. After ordering, the food came out quick. We got chips and salsa....Chips were good, salsa had no flavor. It was hot temperature wise, but the flavor wasn't. She got tacos. She enjoyed the rice and beans but the tacos were just so so. I got two tacos as well as a flauta plate. The tacos were so so for me too....the beef was gristly and it looks like the leftovers that stick to the pan when you brown beef at home..? Yuck. The flautas were overcooked in the fryer. The presentation I didn't like either. All 4 flautas were covered by tomato, sour cream and lettuce. YOu had to poke around to find exactly where they were. And...unless you took a knife and scraped them, you flauta has cheese, lettuce and drizzles of sour cream hanging on it everywhere. I really don't want lettuce with my flauta, but had no choice.... The Coke from the Fountain was really good though. It was brixed perfectly. Our search continues....this place was affordable, but when the Coke was the best part of the meal, its tough to find light at the end of the tunnel. We wont be back. read more

I remember when this place opened back in 2006 (roughly?) and I was so excited to get a non fast food little mexican food place in the burbs! I'd drive by day after day wait for it to open, and when it finally did I was there three times a week for the first few months! It was THAT exciting to see something other than taco bell where we were living. This place has got great street tacos, homemade salsas, breakfast tacos, chips and queso and my favorite, simple bean and cheese burritos. Everything i've ever ordered here has been tasty, and left me full and satisfied. In the drive thru the line moves pretty slow, so you know they're whipping up an order just for you. Make sure you're very specific in what you are ordering, because sometimes there can be order mix ups. I always make sure to check my order before leaving the window. Last week I was on my way home from an exhausting shopping trip to Walmart with my Mom (don't even ask it was crazy - including me driving home in the dark wearing RX sunglasses since my mom's driving is even scarier).... I needed a soft serve cone dipped in chocolate so I drove to Dairy Queen. Well DQ is no longer there it is now a yummy taqueria - yes I have been away for quite a while. We decide to go in and eat. I ordered 1 chicken fajita and 1 carnitas taco that came with lettuce, tomato and cheese in a corn tortilla - both were yummy with both green and red salsa. Mom loved her burrito and it was huge! Severely over-hyped, even for the mid-cities. This place was much better when they opened it, and even then they weren't serving 4 star tacos. They put cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes in their tacos unless you tell them otherwise; which is fine for Tex-Mex style tacos, but not wanna-be tacos auténticos. Those should only contain the selected meat, onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.Though if the additional ingredients were supremely fresh I would maybe be inclined to think differently. Sometimes a place can't escape it's past, and in this case the Dairy Queen that resided here previously was not up to par in it's later years. Basically this place is good if you've never ventured out of the HEB area, and never intend to. Paisa has two locations. One in a gas station in Grapevine and a second much nicer location in Bedford with an outdoor patio and no gas pumps. The Bedford locale even has a drive thru window but I always just go in and order. Paisa is a friendly family run place. I do not like the barbacoa torta. Way too salty. However, some pastor tacos are good. fajita tacos are also good. Their breakfast burritos are cheap, real food and rock. If you get them to go, they give you both green and red homemade hot sauce in little containers to go with your burrito. Enchilada plate to go is 6 bucks and I am a big fan of the beef enchiladas here. they drizzle them with a little sour cream plus the chili con carne. YUMMY. also in the morning, the horchada is excellent. Also, last but most important, any person who has waited on me here has always been smiling, friendly and patient. read more

The food was really good and super fresh. The meat in my tacos was so delicious.. I didn't know that tacos were allowed to have flavor and texture aside from over-generous condiments! The chips I ordered on the side were also superb. They were so hot they warped the take-out box and nearly melted through. It was really nice to get home and have them taste so fresh. The salsa was spicy too - a major plus! It's only $5/plate even after lunch hours which made me do a little happy dance. Most Mexican restaurants double their prices after lunch for the same meals. Delicious bistec (steak) tortas, Spanish rice and refried beans. The beans have a kick to them as they're slightly spicy. The bread on my torta ("Mexican sandwich") was nice and toasted, which added a layer of deliciousness to the sandwich. I asked for everything so there were generous helpings of avocado. The amount of lettuce, tomato and sour cream were just enough so as not to overwhelm the meat. My only complaint is that there needed to be more meat on the torta and more beans on the side. I like to mix my rice and beans and when there's an overabundance of left over rice, to me, there wasn't enough beans to begin with. As for the meat, since I'm slowly getting back to eating meat, the amount in my torta was fine for me. But it was skimpy nonetheless. read more

There is nothing remotely authentic about this restaurant. This category is fast food, I didn't realize that from the reviews. We asked if the tacos were white meat chicken, she said yes, they were not, the chicken was disgusting. My cheese enchiladas were not melted at all, they were full of cold cheese. My boyfriend brought them back to the counter, they returned me the same plate a couple minutes later, that had been placed in the microwave. The sour cream was then gross and runny and the sauce had crusted to the edges of the plate. If the staff is just microwaving everything, how would it be possible to mess up the order in the first place?? In the end, no one ate their dinner, it wasn't worth it. read more

El Paisa was recommended to me by a friend who knows every Mexican place in a five mile radius. Her words were, "It's consistently good and super cheap. If you leave hungry, it is your own fault." That is some high praise. I had to try it. Today marks my third visit and I have to say, my friend was right. I've tried the giant chicken burrito, enchiladas and a breakfast platter there and all were good. Oh, and the chips and queso are also superb!. Generous portions. Super nice people. Great food. This was my first and will be my last visit to this restaurant. The meat in my beef enchiladas looked and tasted like filler. The beans were very watery. The rice tasted like it came out of a can. The enchiladas were very big but did not taste good at all. The lady working the drive thru window spoke no English at all. I openly admit my review is biast, because I truly am in love with this place. I eat here at least 3 times a month. There are several locations around DFW but of the two I have visited (the other off 35 and harry hines) this one is the best. I always get the chicken taco's on a flour tortilla (but the corn tortilla is just as good) the bean and rice mix and a Pina auga fresca...but most importantly a verda sauce to spice up my taco's. They offer cilantro, onions and limes for your taco. Oh, and recently they started giving grilled jalapeno's with all their dishes. Very Nice! The meals are hot and fresh and hit the spot every time. It's not to heavy and I am always left satisfied from my meal. They also serve breakfast so if you like eating early morning soupa on the weekend, this is the spot for that as well. But if you just want a breakfast taco they have those too: from chirizo, bacon, potato and egg in any combination you ask for. My biggest compliant is that they close at like 9 or 9:30 pm which is a bummer when you are craving a taco at 11 pm. But that is an appropriate time for the location. It's hard to believe that you can get all this greatness at less than $8 per person and that is including a drink. The staff is pretty cool too. All in all this is a great spot. read more

This place is ridiculous! (in a good way) I once lived a mere 5 minutes away and would frequent this little taqueria. Their breakfast is delicious and inexpensive. The breakfast burritos are stuffed with egg and whatever else you want in there. The green (spicy) salsa is fantastic on anything and everything. I can't get enough of their barbecoa tacos and burritos. The meat can be a little salty by itself, but the lettuce, tomato, and sour cream do a good job of balancing it out.
