The food was delicious. Fajitas were marinated very well. The carnitas tacos were full of meat and and asada sope was super fresh. My son loved the green chicken enchiladas. The corn tortillas are homemade and by far the BEST I have ever had in Utah. This reminded me of CA Mexican food. Will be back for sure! read more

Checked out El Palmar before the Syracuse LDS Temple Open house. We had a group of 10 & eek. We all thought this place was terrible. Our service was really bad. I felt bad for our waitress. I felt like she was the only one there working & it did get pretty busy. But I think she might have been the only one cleaning tables, greeting customers, taking orders, & cashing everyone out. So my review was based only on our experience there at the time we went. We asked initially if we could split the bill before we ordered & she said "yes but it would be split at the end of the meal" so we were like great, we all ordered. It took like 30 minutes to get any kind of water refill, which they finally ended up just bringing us a pitcher of water, which was more ideal especially for our large group. The salsa didn't have much flavor at all, mostly just a tomato-watery taste. No one at our table really ended up eating the chips & salsa. I ordered cheese enchiladas with green sauce. It took a while for everyone to receive their food. My cousin was actually done with his meal before I received my meal. It took an additional 10 minutes for the waitress to bring me & my boyfriend silverware after we received our food. She was busy greeting other tables & taking their orders, which is great. But when you have customers waiting for silverware to eat their food & now their food is just getting cold it seems like that should have been a higher priority & all she had to do was drop it off. It was truly a mess. My boyfriend ordered the Sopes with asada. He didn't love these. Said they just tasted like oily bread with toppings. Everyone was not super satisfied with our service & the food. We waited forever for our check & then finally went & asked. They don't bring the bill to your table, you pay up front. When we went to pay up front & tried to split the bill, she then said she could not split the bill. Such a pain with a large group like that & trying to venmo the correct amounts. The service is really really slow. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and have tried them a couple of times, because we want businesses to succeed in our town. Waiting for food for over an hour especially when the restaurant is fairly empty isn't going to make customers want to come back. This happened both times we came. I had a great experience here. I hope they stay in Syracuse. They are located right in front of the movie theaters and have indoor and outdoor seating. The parking lot is a little tight but I got a spot right in the front. I went here for lunch with a friend and we were seated right away. We got our order quickly and the woman who served us was very kind. We were given chips and salsa. The menu is large and has a lot of options to choose from. It's your typical Tex-mex restaurant. Burritos, tacos, enchiladas.... I got the tacos and ordered one of each. The steak, chicken, and birria. The birria didn't come with sauce but was seasoned well. The steak and chicken was fantastic. My only complaint is they don't come with salsa and they didn't offer me any. The rice was yummy and the beans were okay. If you are a tex-mex lover you will love it here. read more

Food is a 10/10 always!. My husband orders the Sea&Earth burrito and swears by it (minus onions) The sopes are our favorite as a family though. They are fried perfectly but soft center. Topped with al pastor, lettuce, tomatoes & sour cream. Best tasting rice & beans around hands down. Everyone can make rice and beans but not everyone can get it right. My husband got the tacos and I got a smothered bean burrito. J said the tacos were good but the beans and rice were bland and under seasoned For myself, the flavor was there on the sauce and the cheese fo bean ratio was perfect. I. The description it said it also had rice in the burrito which it didn't (we got take out) but still tasted good. I agree with J that the beans were under seasoned and bland. The 3 stars for the food and an extra star for the price. Fed both of us for a little over $20 and you can't beat that in this economy. read more

This was hit and miss for us. Supposedly they are under new ownership and while they were slightly better the second time around, the differences were not big. Carne Asada- this was the best meal on the table. The flank steak had great flavor. Sopes- we got one of each meat. Carne asada, carnitas, and pollo. Everything was okay, but bland. Birria tacos- these were okay at best. The tacos themselves were very cheesy, but the meat didn't have a lot of flavor and they were a bit soggy. They needed some crisp to them and that would've helped a lot. And the consommé wasn't great. It was very bland, the only flavor I could taste was cinnamon, which I definitely don't love in my consommé. I added all the limes and it helped but only a little. Verde Enchiladas- not good. The salsa verde tastes like it's straight from a can. It's puréed completely, thin, and sour. And not good-sour. The rice and beans that came on every plate were also not good. The rice tasted like minute rice, and it was almost mush. Looks like it went through a blender. The beans tasted like they had way too much lard and were extremely bland. Overall, we will probably not come back. We tried them before the ownership change and now after, and the food is sadly still sub-par. They need some major improvements before we patronize them again. read more

I hate to make these reviews but this is our experience. The wife and I came In for our first time here with no expectations at all. The restaurant seemed clean had a faint smell of cleaner but noticed the windows seemed not touched in awhile since there was smudges from kids everywhere. The place was EMPTY we were the only ones in the place. So we was waited on immediately. The waiter was nice and friendly. We ordered chicken nachos and asked if they could substitute the corn tortillas for flour tortillas. He happily obliged and we got excited since moving to Utah we haven't found a place that would do that for us. All was well UNTIL we asked if they had cheese for the complimentary chips. He said they did and he brought us out some nacho cheese that was 100% from a can. Once I seen that my excitement went from ecstatic to worried. I mean it is an authentic Mexican restaurant so surely they have queso right? WRONG! Our chicken nachos came out smothered with canned cheese. My only thought was WHY! Why would you do this to not only yourself but to the customers. You literally took a dish you really can't mess up in the Mexican world and destroyed it! The flour tortilla chips was 10/10 the chicken was 7/10 buy them selves. You add the cheese to those and now the whole dang dish is 0/10! It was awful! Whole thing tasted like nacho cheese. I wish my wife or I wouldn't have ordered the same thing because my opinion about this place is now tarnished because my thought process is, if they used canned nacho cheese for these two options we got, what else are they doing to cut corners. Probably will not be back. Service 5/5 Food 0/5 Ambiance 2/5 They get 1 star for ambiance and 1 star for the waiter. $30 for canned cheese.... Never again. read more

I wanted to support this new restaurant in our community and ended up sorry I did. We went last night and the service was kind but VERY slow. We got there at 7 and didn't leave until almost 9. It took 40 minutes to get chips and salsa. My husband and I had ordered cokes. We both took a sip at the same time and looked at each other saying, "does yours taste off?" I took a couple more sips but couldn't drink any more, it just tasted weird. We finally got our food after being there over an hour and it wasn't good. My husband got the carnitas chimichanga and he said the meat was too dry to eat. He took it out and just ate the tortilla. I had the birria tacos. They had a strong cinnamon flavor and gave me a stomachache. They've only been open 3 weeks so hopefully they work out their kitchen pacing and recipes, but we definitely won't be going back. read more

Brought my husband to try this place & we loved it! The restaurant is small but has tables large enough to seat a good size party. They have daily specials and a large menu with reasonably priced entrees. The chips & salsa were delicious - salsa is house-made and very fresh with good flavor. The carne asada tacos were very filling and tasty, and the smothered burrito had everything you could want inside with a very flavorful sauce on top - great flavor without heat on the mild/green sauce. Found this place while working in the area. Hands down one of the best mexican food restaurants in Northern Utah! The food is not just delicious. The flavors are as authentic as they get, all without overcharging you. If you are in the mood for comfort food you can't go wrong with El Palamar. The Al pastaor was tender and the adobo tasted like it should! The Birria quesadillas were crispy as it should be, and the meat wasn't dry. You can taste smokiness and spices in the birria. The ultimate molcajete (what I ordered) was unreal, it come with chicken breast, asada, shrimp, queso fresco, cactus nopal, roasted onions with some roasted jalapeños, not for wimps lol. The fish was moist and crispy. It's also rare to find rice that packs flavor and is cooked correctly. It's fluffy and not all clumped all together. I can go on and on but it would be better to check it out for yourself. It's worth the drive from tooele, with such an inviting atmosphere and staff it's a great and friendly! Went in as a family on Friday night and excited to try this new local Mexican restaurant. It's easy to nitpick what all was wrong when you had a bad time so I will only share the most extreme of our visit. At 7 at night, on a Friday, they ran out of rice. This wouldn't be a problem but they did not tell us until we received our orders. I ordered the Mole dish which was $18 and got a plate of beans and cubed stake with green sauce. It was such a small portion that I ended up eating when I got home. My wife ordered a $8 burrito that was the size of a frozen burrito that you would get at the grocery store. The taste of all the dishes we got were mediocre and did not warrant the $60 bill we were charge. Granted, they did give us a discount, but only after we told them we didn't get everything we ordered. We wanted this to be our new favorite, but we won't be going back. read more

I tried this place again today vs when they first opened and it was a night and day difference. The carne asada tacos had a lot of meat and hand made tortillas.The flavor was amazing and they had a special of $1.75 for the asada tacos. I got 5 tacos but got full with 4. The people were super friendly and they mentioned on tge 31st of this month they will have a live mariachi band and free tacos. I will definitely be coming back. read more

We came in to order food to go and the staff was very very rude. After trying to brush this off they continued to be rude and also messed up every single order. One of my friends ended up leaving without food after waiting for 45 minutes, receiving the wrong order, and half of the order was missing. She expressed her concern and got laughed at and then they proceeded to yell at her in front of the entire restaurant. As we left they promptly told all 4 of us to and I quote "to suck a D***". We had to call the next day and speak to the manager and she then told us that they have had issues with their staff being disrespectful to their customers previously and may have to proceed with termination of their staff. The lady that seated us was also our waitress. We asked for water and she acted like she didn't understand what we wanted. She came back with water and took our order but clearly didnt understand English. My wife ordered flautas and she again gave us the look like she didn't know what we wanted. She asked 1 or 2? We looked at eachother like 1 or 2 what??My wife pointed at the menu and said whatever is 12.99! I wanted to order chimichungas but she walked away before I ordered. I was flabbergasted!! I flagged her down by running up to where she was in the front (we were seated in the very back) and told her we weren't done ordering! I told her that I wanted the chimichungas and she said ok. About 5 minutes later she came back over to our table and asked what kind of chimichungas...beef, chicken or pork. I said beef and she walked away again. Then, a whole mariachi band was setting up for live music directly in front of our table! They played an intro song and then the singer came to our table and asked what song we wanted to sing. We had them play a "como la flor" and they were great! We gave them a 5 dollar tip and noticed that most of the tables were waiting on food! We waited a few more songs and again noticed that the other waiters weren't bringing any food to the tables either! We waited for a total of 45-50 minutes and finally walked out! I told the english speaking waitress (not ours) to cancel our order! She apologized but seemed like she was used to people walking out and doing the exact same thing we did! Beware of this place! It was so bizzare that the help doesn't speak english and are put in a position of service where there is a clear communication barrier.
