We heard some great things about this place, and decided to come try it out. My sister and I was greeted by Ana, she was very welcoming, and friendly, and outgoing. She made us feel welcomed and safe and comfortable, she explained the entire menu to us, told us what was good, and took our appetizer orders, and then our actually food and drink order. My sister and I both got combo # 3 with double shrimp, and corn, potatoes and sausage. With rice. We got beer as well. Really amazing, the food was fresh, and was really delicious, the sauce was great i got Spicey and my sister got mild, but we loved it all. Ana amazing, she was really nice and very friendly, she really was on top of her job and made sure we were well taken care of. I didn't even try them they looked so bad. Egg rolls were crisp, but again no flavor. The restraint itself was freezing cold. Honestly, bring your winter coat if you still want to try it. My advice if you are considering this restaurant is just don't. My wife and I visited the other day and regretted it. One price for lunch from a simple menu. The food was just plain terrible and the service was not much better. The place is large and maybe they have a buffet sometimes. They bring you a glass filled with ice then you go over and pick out a can beverage of your choice. The food is served on large round steel plates and just thrown together. We came here for my twin nieces' birthday. We came right at opening so it was pretty empty which was nice and all food stations were neat, and they had just set up. They have a good selection of Cajun seafood like crab legs, sausage, shrimp, mussels, oysters, etc. They also have the normal Asian buffet options like orange chicken, fried rice, soups, sushi, potstickers- light dessert options. It was really clean and I loved the simple set up. Most importantly- food tasted fresh and flavorful unlike most buffets. Also loved the drink set up like a convenience store. Kickin' Seafood could be called the Asian Cajun, but it's not really very Cajun either. That doesn't mean our visit to check out how they do Po'Boys was bad--it just wasn't remotely Cajun. The teppanyaki on the menu could be a warning. The boba teas advertised on a big poster should be a warning. The Kikkoman soy sauce bottle on the table next to Tabasco is a warning: the food is gonna taste like Asian seafood--that is if you get the seafood. They advertise a lunch special outside that says "Po'Boys start at $5". The $5 'Po'Boy' is a hamburger. Not a hamburger patty on a Po'Boy roll, but a hamburger on a hamburger bun. And it tastes like it was cooked on a griddle with Asian seafood too. My wife got the burger, and I got the $8.95 Shrimp Po'Boy so we could test the extremes of this bizarre combo. The Shrimp Po'Boy's shrimp were fried a tad too firm, but the shrimp were large, the batter was thin and crispy (but not spicy at all), and sandwich filled full. A good lunch. But it tasted like an Asian seafood sandwich, which means it has a little more 'fishy' taste like when you buy the South Asia-sourced green shrimp at local grocers. The mayo of the 'tartar sauce' (definitely not a remoulade) was very sweet like Kewpie mayo. The fries came with a ketchup-tonkatsu-mix sauce. Not bad, but Asian. Not Cajun. Yet the $2 lunch special for a fresh pint of beer forgives a lot of sins--and helped make this a 3-star experience. My wife washed her burger down with a Blue Moon and an Odell's Sour--both delicious with the food. More delicious than *her* food actually. But my Po'Boy was a decent value--prior caveats noted. As we were leaving the seafood supplier truck making a delivery was covered with Asian seafood pictures and characters. So know what you're getting here: not Cajun food. But we'd still do lunch here again--just not the 'Burger Po'Boy'. read more

Heard about this new place in town and just haven't had the chance to come and try it out. Today is that day!! Plenty of parking in the nearby old Shopko parking lot as well as the Big 5 and Ashley Furniture lots. Main entrance included a double wooden door symbolic of typical island style restaurant. Once inside, you're greeted and after a short wait you are seated among the various open tables. In short there are 24-30 tables ranging from 4 to 8 seats per table. Now for the food. Typical of most seafood Cajun-style Seafood-Restaurants, we ordered the usual: Shrimp head-on, mild to medium spice, and the full sh'bang which this establishment calls out as "Kickin Style", hence the name of the establishment. We ordered about 5 lbs of shrimp, 2 lbs of clams and side dishes like sweet potatoes fries and side orders of steam white rice. It did not take no more than 10 minutes for the food to come out. Unlike the other places this place provided a metal tray when they bring out your bagged shrimp and/or seafood options. What a marvelous idea!! I thought that was a great idea! The food was fabulous and the server provided great service and was very accommodating. Highly recommending this to even my Boiling Crab folks out in SoCal!! read more

In the past, I have rated this restaurant an easy 4 stars due to the food tasting great and the value you get compared to other seafood restaurants. Unfortunately based on my last visit, I have been hesitant to return. I used to go here about once a month, but I have not been for 3 months because last time there was a cleaning brush wire in my food. (SEE PICTURES) I brought the issue to the attention of my waitress or generously offered to remove the item (calamari appetizer) from my bill and to have the cook make a fresh batch. I graciously accepted and thought that was the end of it. My waitress told another staff member, who I'm guessing was the manager. That manager eventually came over to me and told me that they would not be honoring a free new batch of calamari. She was not very nice and said that I had to choose whether it would be removed from my bill or to have pay for it and get a new batch of calamari. I took pictures and told her to just remove it from the bill. After she saw me take pictures, the manager started checking on us and trying to be nice. I'm guessing she knew I was going to review or complain. She was right. This experience of finding a wire in my food and being offered a resolution only to have the manager go back on that offer was inconvenient and embarrassing, because I had a guest with me. I also will add that I asked the staff about if it was common for wires to be found in the calamari, they said "yes" without even hesitating. I have had their calamari before, and didn't have this problem, but that one time has literally put a bad taste in my mouth. However, it is the managerial service that is awful at this restaurant. Last thing about this visit was we ordered clams as part of our meal. Many of the clam shells were empty (See pictures). If you go here you will probably receive tasty food but it may be underwhelming in other areas, or even dangerous to eat seeing as scrub brushes may be an unexpected ingredient. read more

OK, let's start by saying if you're going to eat here, IGNORE the word Cajun. Think seafood. I was skeptical because of the reviews, and because if you read the menu, there is a lot of phrasing indicating the owners aren't native Louisiana. The sign at the door says 11:30A. I phoned in a to go order @ 10:50A. 2. I ordered 2 fried shrimp poboys for the guys, which I didn't find out until today were grilled - apparently no one wanted to tell me; calamari, which was a huge portion but came with fried onions and peppers mixed in & had good flavor (remember, don't think Cajun); hush puppies, which weren't very flavorful, even though they had corn in them; clam chowder, which was a cream base, but not really New England and not Manhattan, with tomatoes in it. Not remarkable enough to order again. 3. Portion sizes were ample if not overboard. Order was ready by about 11:12A. Young man taking order & filling was very nice. Young lady answering the phone when I called to say my dirty rice didn't make it into the order was very nice, even when I said I'd be in later for the rice. Then young man was very nice again and apologetic when I arrived for the rice but decided on a refund because I had - in the meantime - found a piece of metal in my clam chowder. Looked like it came from a pot scrubber, so I guess the bright side is they wash their dishes. Chowder and rice were refunded. People waiting to check out behind me were very satisfied with their order. My husband says he still wants to try the fried shrimp poboy, so he may give it another go but I'll pass. read more

We came mid afternoon on a Sunday and was a little concerned that the place was empty. Then we realized we were there mid afternoon. On a Sunday. The decor of the place is nice and there are some areas they are still working on that resemble restaurant tenants of the past. The seating area is big, like REALLY big. You will not have a hard time getting a place to sit here. There are many options on the menu including salads, some sandwiches and the infamous boil bags. They run specials on a big menu board and it looks like you can get whole crabs, etc. We opted for the boil bags. The combos are a pretty good deal and you pick 3 proteins that are accompanied by some taters, corn, and sausage. I opted for the crawfish, clams, and shrimp (head on of course). The wife doubled up on shrimp and added clams for her third. You then choose your sauce (six to choose from) and spice level. The clams were "meh" and I really wasn't expecting much else since good clams really don't exist in Utah. The crawfish were good but a lot of work. The head on shrimp were really good and will be my go-to on the next trip. I loved the potatoes and corn but the sausage was disappointing. It was pretty flavorless. The wife loved hers as well and recommends that tail only shrimp. There was a lot of shrimp in there and she couldn't eat it all. Good selection of sodas some beers as well. I really want to like this place. I can see where they were going w/ the signatures/graffiti on the wall, but it's not edgy enough to pull off. The service was extremely friendly and helpful but there was one gentleman who kept telling us the price of the crab, which felt weird. The selection for drinks feels strange since it is only cans in a small selection, but it was bottomless. The "Choose your own boil" items is a fun concept, but the sea-smell was overwhelming and some of the items were subpar. Overall, I wouldn't choose this over another "boil" place again. read more

The food is mediocre at best. The chowder was floury and the hush puppies were fair. The Tonkotsu Ramen was fine and would have been better had I not found egg shell. Because I want so desperately to believe there is a good boil in Utah I might have returned to try one, if the service wasn't so cringe-worthy. The service however is abysmal. We waited one hour for ramen and chowder. I wish this were an exaggeration. I have been all around this country and I can honestly say, I have never seen such a confused service in my entire life. Waiters just wandering aimlessly, tables not being served in order of arrival, zero seating management. Most of the time the waiters are in the back, and when they are on the floor, they look lost and confused. I would like to think that with some organization and structure, this could be a 3-star restaurant. Sadly, I've given this place many chances and now I'd recommend to not eat here. Although the ad states a buffet restaurant they have changed to where they give you a menu and you check off what you would like to eat. The seafood is old and is always covered with heavy garlic sauce catered towards your heat preference. The servers semes to dread working and one was even on his phone in a corner during my meal. For now this is rated 3, I might change it later, but this is from my first visit. Location, easy place to find. Inside decor, spacious, roomy and artsy, creative letting people write all over the walls. Service, very fast and polite. Also knowledgeable. The combos are the better way to go, best bang for your buck. I did the first combo, $19.99 I believe. Decided on mussels, clams and shrimp. Passed on crawfish since I had just came from Bucket Ol' Crawfish. Did the combo mix (forgot the name) medium. Definitely wasn't spicy so I got the spicy mix on the side and that was perfect. As far as sauce wise, I'm not too sure how I felt. I mean it was okay I guess but it was too sweet for me. I don't know. That's why I'll have to go back and try it one more time and get what I normally eat at seafood joints. Crawfish only. We'll see. Anyways, the clams? Undercooked. I mean I know people eat raw clams but this is a restaurant and I believe the food is suppose to be cooked cos it says nothing about raw food on the menu. The shrimp was good. Big in size as well. The mussels? They were good as well, actually cooked lol. I also did have corn, potatoes and sausages in the bag as well. The potato needs to be cut into halves or something. It was just a giant potato lol. But I like potatoes, unfortunately I didn't try the corn or sausage, I was too put off from the clams. But for now, this is my opinion. Hoping to change the rating soon. Update : Just returned to have the crawfish. They sell them either fresh or frozen. $12.95 or $14.99. Why they do that I don't know. I asked for fresh live of course. They bring out my order I can immediately tell it isn't fresh. I eat one and I know for sure, I try two more or so. Meat is tough and taste like the crawfish I buy from Walmart. I love crawfish so I know the difference. So I politely tell the servers, and the cook is outside by chance so the server ask the cook and the cook said it was fresh. So I say, well I don't mind if you guys go try it. & If you still think it's fresh, I'll leave it at that. The server Savon was rude. He was like is it really frozen or you just don't want to pay for it. & I said again, go ahead and go try it out. So he goes to the back with the cook and brings out the live crawfish and rudely asks if I want those, and I say yes, I asked for live ones in the beginning. Blows my mind why they would even serve frozen store bought already seasoned ones and just add their sauce on top. I'm never returning to this establishment again. & I'll be sure to tell everyone I know that this place isn't worth it. To just go to bucket. My family went here for the first time, we will never come back again. we were seated the salt and pepper shakers had food on the top of them, the hot sauces were dirty and one was missing its lid and was all crusted over. My husband got a bottled beer it was Warm and flat, the draft beer was flat as well. A seafood restaurant is very much out of my element. So I'm not sure what's normal for a seafood place. But this place was good! If I based it off the food alone it would be a four star. The hush puppies were bomb! We ended up getting one of the boil bags with crawfish, mussels, and shrimp. We got the kickin seasoning with medium heat. Medium heat still packs a punch! I also ordered dirty fried rice...it was gross. I know dirty rice is "dirty" because of the color the giblets give it. But it literally tasted like it was boiled in muddy water. Besides the rice, the food was good. Our server was kind and showed us how to open and eat everything. Although, he kinda checked out after that. The selection is great, we had a few plates of buffet style freshly cooked seafood, fried rice chow mein etc and they have a selection that you put on a plate for them to cook you Cajun style to your liking of spicy level. Do NOT go here!! I had a SCREW IN MY CALAMARI! So nasty. Not sure where it came from but it hurt when I chewed. Obviously they don't clean their seafood well enough to even notice a screw in their calamari before frying it, unless it was purposely put there. Very disgusted & will never be returning again. I did get a refund for the calamari but didn't refund the whole order, which I definitely wasn't going to finish after finding that in my food. read more

If you want to pay seafood prices and have your food served to you on foam plates and in plastic containers then this is the place for you! We decided to come here based solely on previous reviews (which appeared to be good!) I tried to place an order online, and it timed out after a 3 minute period and said the restaurant couldn't submit my order online. So we just decide to go inside. The front doors of the restaurant are covered in graffiti and it made it look so abandoned and neglected. We go inside and I notice all of the walls in the restaurant are covered in graffiti. Whatever, if that's their decoration style I can deal with that. We get to the counter and I tell the man up front it wouldn't allow me to order online. He says nothing and hands us a menu. We decide to just sit down and eat instead of getting takeout. The man takes us to our table, and asks us about drinks. He comes back with ice water in plastic cups...We proceed with our order and he brings us a couple appetizers, and then gives my husband his seafood gumbo. To be fair, the gumbo actually tasted good. It was a much longer wait for me to get my ham fried rice, and it was weird that he would serve my husbands meal way ahead of mine. We got potstickers (gyoza) which were most definitely from frozen, that they quickly heated up for us. The fried shrimp was also very dry and flavorless. My ham fried rice came out and was served to us in plastic containers, and we were given foam plates to eat from! The only real dinnerware was my husband's bowl of gumbo. Then the waiter disappears for a while, and never comes back to check on the meal, or even to mention as to why we are paying restaurant prices for plastic dinnerware, much less to give us more water. We are done and wanting to leave, and my husband gets up to use the restroom and sees the guy around the corner on his cell phone! Overall, this was a terrible experience and the most unprofessional place I've ever been to. Frozen food, served on foam plates, and charged standard seafood prices. The bad reviews are unwarranted. Seems as though they are from people who aren't familiar with seafood boil restaurants. The kickin's style medium sauce was great with the head off shrimp. The boil bags come with one corn and two potatoes (which were really large). Get a side of rice and put the sauce over it. Servings were large and the seafood is about as fresh as you can expect from a place in Utah. Try for yourself before listening to the negative reviews. Always a fun meal and experience. read more
