I guess I'll start from the beginning. Pros, we were seated quickly. The grilled tiger shrimp was amazing. Our queso was brought out almost immediately. Now to the cons which are unfortunately many more. As nice as our waitress was, she was either not listening or not attentive. I got a berry margarita which came with sugar (I was not aware) so I asked for it to be poured into another glass with salt. When she came back all she had done was put it in another glass with more sugar. My husband ended up having to go with a sweet tea and when he had to flag someone down to get a refill (who never came back) the waitress asked if he needed another. I explained that he had already asked someone for another sweet tea and I wasn't sure if he was getting it or not she went to get it. She then came back and asked was that sweet tea or unsweetened. We said again sweet. She came back and it was unsweetened. Then came my dinner. It came with onion and tomatos with the shrimp. The mushroom was good, but I have never before seen tomatoes and onions with the core. (See attached photos) It was truly an awful experience that we had to pay almost 60.00 for. We came in after 12pm and it was pretty much dead, only a few people were seated around us. The waiter was kind and checked on us pretty often. We ordered an appetizer then ordered our main meals, for some reason all of the food came out at once and it was a little overwhelming especially when you're supposed to receive your appetizer first. I got the crispy fries with meat and guacamole, they absolutely drenched the fries in guacamole and it didn't taste fresh at all. There was just too much of everything on it. The appetizer was huge and if I would have known that I personally wouldn't have ordered it especially if I knew it was going to be served all at once. I got the chorizo quesadilla and there wasn't any cheese in it for some reason, I couldn't even pick it up without it falling apart, had to pick at it with a fork, on top of that it wasn't hot at all. Only the plate was hot which didn't make any sense, the chipotle sauce they added on top tasted absolutely like nothing unfortunately. The "ambiance" of the place felt off since it was almost completely empty and we had several different people come up to us and ask if the food was okay. Which is normal but it just got irritating since it seemed like everybody who worked there just kept on asking us. Check was about $60 including tip, to me personally it wasn't worth it. I haven't lived in Hickory for about 5 years. Since moving away, I have been on the hunt for an ACP as authentic as El Paso's. I have not had any luck. The service is so friendly and helpful. The staff does an outstanding job at making sure you have a great experience. The ambiance is typical for Mexican restaurants. You don't really go in expecting a quiet meal. However, we went after lunch rush so it actually was quiet. The food was OUTSTANDING!! This dish includes chicken, queso, rice, zucchini, mushrooms, and pineapple. My favorite ACP ever and unfortunately I don't think I will ever find anything comparable somewhere else. Guess I'll be stopping in whenever I'm in Hickory until the end of time. read more

I've been to El Paso a handful of times and it's probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in Hickory. The price point is fantastic, with pretty much the whole menu outside of shareable fajitas and seafood clocking in at $10 or less. I got the Burrito Azteca and it was an absolute monster of a meal stuffed with a ton of steak, beans, rice and onions. As is tradition with most Mexican restaurants, they have margaritas with frozen and on the rocks options. There's typically a drink deal available, but even when there isn't drinks are on the cheaper side. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone in the hickory area read more

The restaurant looked packed from the outside. The parking lot was full. However, the restaurant is pretty big and can handle the crowd which is nice. Inside the decor is bright and vibrant. They have a big bar area when you enter. When they bring chips to your table you get salsa and also a bean dip. The bean dip was just like a thinner version of refried beans. It wasn't my favorite but it was something different to go with the chips and salsa that you always get at mexican restaurants. The food came out quick and was nice and hot. When I heard from my cousin, who lives in Nashville, that there was an El Paso in Hickory, I did not hesitate to jump on a plane to fly into Charlotte. During the entire drive up to Hickory, I was bustling with excitement as I couldn't wait to feast on the best Mexican food in the South finally. I was excited to try the famous Fajita, and when I sat down at the restaurant, I was like a kid on Christmas morning waiting to receive my free chips and salsa. I was disappointed to receive the chips 15 minutes after sitting down, and by this time I was drooling from the corners of my mouth. The chips came out to my table hot and with a fresh smell. And the waiter said to me, "Lo siento, hombre." I tore through the chips and ordered my Fajita. When the waiter brought out the Fajita, he placed it down in front of me, and immediately started singing and dancing with his co-workers. I practically had a Mariachi band in front of me, just not quite to the level of a real one. The surprise of the band got me hyped, and I ate the fajita like a rabid dog. I was done with my entree in about 5 minutes, and I got up and personally thanked the head chef with a firm handshake and a smile. Overall, my experience down in Hickory was great, but in my opinion, El Paso did not live up to the hype. I was saddened a little bit to be let down on such an exciting journey, but being able to see the beautiful views and tourist attractions of Hickory whilst enjoying the best Mexican food in the south was still a great experience. I would end up going again if my family ends up going on vacation to Hickory or adjacent cities. The service is good and the food is excellent. If you're feeling a little adventurous, try the salsa bar! I'm not a huge salsa fan; I just prefer a regular mild salsa, which is available at the bar. The one served at the table is a little on the spicy side and is loaded with cilantro. I like spice, but cilantro isn't my thing. It's nice to have variety, and this place has it! The parking is a little awkward but there are plenty of spots! This location is right off 127 in Viewmont. Honestly it's in a much better location than the other one in Hickory. My daughters college graduation was May 16th. She chose El Paso to celebrate afterwards with family since it was close to the college and who doesn't like Mexican, right!? I tried calling 3 days before to make a reservation considering we were going to be a large party. When I called I was told they dont make reservations because sometimes parties dont show up. I assured him we would show up, he insisted it was first come first serve. We arrived and there was no wait!!! We were thrilled!!! They seemed a bit taken aback by our party of 12 and I apologized and said I tried to make a reservation. They sat us together at a large table in the center of the restaurant. Everything was fine, so far. The waiter takes our drink order and when he was bringing out one of the trays the hostess ran into him from behind and the entire tray went down, partially on two of our guests. We felt really bad for the guy as it wasnt his fault and told him it was ok. They take our food order, bring out our meal. One of our other guests orders was never put in, it was completely missed. By the time his food was brought out the waiter was literally bringing the rest of us our to go boxes. Now here's where it gets good!!!! The waiter tries to bring us our checks, (which he asked in the very begining of our order how checks would be divided) first he teies to charge our guest for the food that was never put in and brought out as we were leaving. Second, EVERY single bill was wrong. Way wrong. Like two guests were charged 60$ for a lunch combo and drink. Another waitress sees our waiter having trouble and comes over to help. She fixes 2 out of the 12 orders that were wrong and leaves, leaving the frustrated waiter on his own again. He fixes receipt after receipt and it was still a mess. My son in law had to go tell the waiter he was never charged for his food so that they could be honest and pay. My sister in laws receipt was wrung up incorrectly 3 times. I witnessed her asking him very politely to take off the drinks she didnt order all while saying please and the waiter stops in middle of walking away and throws his head and hands up in the air and sighs rudely embarrassing all of us as uf any of this was our fault all while the ENTIRE restaurant is staring at us.... worst experience ever!!!! My son in law said they have eaten there maby times and never been treated that way before. For the rest of the first time experiencers, they wont be returning.
