I've been coming here for over 40 years. Even when they were across the tracks. I've always gotten the pork smothered burrito, and it's the exact same from when I was 5. The recipes habe never changed. Obviously some days may be a bit more salty or spicy but that's a given. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant ever, not just Kansas. I lived in Denver and had a friend grab 2 smothered burritos and drop them off to me at 3:00 AM when he got there. We got up and ate them without hesitation. read more

El Patio is a small restaurant with great food and service. We like the fried flour tacos, puffy tacos (roast beef or chicken usually) and the horchata. They close at 5PM so only available for lunch or a very early dinner. Worth checking out for sure! read more

One of my husband's favorite lunch places. He loves the salsa. The service is quick. Staff is friendly. Parking is right out front. They will give each person a mild salsa and then a dish of a hotter o e to mix in. read more

So the puffy taco was great. The flautas we're ok. The white queso was great but felt high for what you got. And then the regular salsa was bland. The restaurant is tiny but it was all in all pretty good. read more

The homemade tortillas are to die for!! If could afford to eat here multiple times a week I would.

The beans and rice didn't really have flavor. The enchiladas had a very strong taste of onion and nothing else. The salsa and chips were good. Not very busy but really slow service. read more

I had their Huevos Rancheros and it was good. The chips were nice and cruchy, while I had a choice of mild and hot salsa to pour on my small plate. Handmade corn tortillas were good and went well with the meal. The ice tea was ok, but the over all experience was exceptional. Highly recommend this place. Average Mexican restaurant. It's got the same food just like all of the small mexican restaurants in town. It's not out of ordinary or something to swoon over. It's hard to find this place, it's incredibly hidden, the parking is terrible, the food is o.k., the waitresses that are there aren't the friendliest either... Won't be back. read more

It's easy to forget El Patio, a little too north of Old Town on Central, and even further west than My Tho (though only a little bit) and recessed a bit behind a parking lot, but there's still enough to make El Patio (Spanish for "The Patio," dontchaknow) a viable dinner alternative when traversing Old Town, especially in the face of a closed Angela's and nothing other than a Playa Azul to fool you into thinking you're eating Mexican food. The actual meal was as uneventful and quick as any other Mexican meal, but I recall not being displeased by my platter of pork burrito, tostada, and puffy taco. Bonus points for the puffy taco, which is the national dish of San Antonio, but becomes less prevalent the more north you go. They lose some points for the tostada, which I maintain is a complete waste on a platter meal and serves as nothing but filler. They're hard to eat, beans are the most complicated food on them, and they usually repeat flavors found in other menu items. However, I love it when I get my very own squeeze bottle of salsa, because I go to town with that thing, and typically leave it about half full. I haven't really been looking for it, but I think offering the puffy taco is significant. Otherwise, solid Mexican food downtown, and it stays open later than Angela's on Friday. read more

Took my Mom there who was visiting from out of town. Wanted to go someplace good and local that they couldn't get back home. Read the glowing reviews and thought this was the place. Should have turned around when we stepped in the door. It was lunchtime on a Saturday and there was hardly any people there. The tables were cramped and didn't look like they put much effort into making it comfortable. I can look past comfort for killer food so we took a chance. The service was slow, the prices were expensive and the food was bland. The waitress forgot our cheese dip and we had to ask twice. The children's plate consisted of plain cut up chicken and beans and rice. Very average. Not impressed. Won't be going back. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet since we've been eating here regularly for a year. Must try the chile rellenno burrito smothered in their spicy salsa verde, if you can handle ultimate spicy! My goodness is it good! Everything else we've tried here has tasted good as well, although the fried tacos were a bit too heavy for our tummy. Their tortilla chips also taste different from other places: more flavorful and early which I would attribute to some addition to the dough. read more

Favorite restaurant in Wichita for over a decade. My standard for Mexican food.. I either get the chile relleno meal or the vegetable fajitas. In former days I would have gotten either a beef flour taco or a smothered tamale. Everything I have tried is on point. The staff is friendly and I've felt comfortable and happy there every time. The location is enjoyable too, great jump off point for a day of downtown (+ riverside, midtown, etc) adventures. read more

The food was just ok and same with the service. I wont be back. The guacamole was very expensive for a small bowl that fits in the palm of your hand $10.00. Friend and I ate there for lunch it was $32.52, plus we left a tip on top of that. I had two tacos, she had a taco and a flauta and we shared the guac, two sodas. read more

We have a new favorite Mexican food restaurant! The chips and salsa were really good! My 2 sons and I all got the fried flour tacos, and my husband had the chicken smothered burrito. It was all AMAZING! The waitress was very sweet, and we didn't have to wait very long at all for our meals. The atmosphere is really nice, and I love that it isn't huge. There are so many good Mexican restaurants that I would not waste my time here. Food is more fair than exceptional. When I go out to eat and spend my money it has to have good service and food that is a good value in taste and quantity. This place doesn't make any of these. read more
