Pilar and her husband were terrific hosts at our visit last month. The barbecue and stew were so fresh and flavorful. We could not have been happier. It was a short cab ride from our downtown hotel and felt like we were in "the country". If you are looking for authentic home cooking where they make you feel like family, this is your place. We will be sure to return on our next visit. Our only regret is that we were not aware of this wonderful barbecue restaurant on our first visit to San Miguel de Allende one year ago. read more

If you want to have the BEST authentic Mexican food then you need to come to Pilar's restaurant. She is so kind and friendly. We didn't see a menu, she just brought us consommé, then homemade tortillas with 2 different types of meat. The sauces are a great addition to the meal. They are only open from 8-2pm Wednesday-Sunday. It's a must to come here. read more

Nothing like a good barbacoa taco after a night out. Be sure not to miss out on El Pato. Rightly so one of the best places to eat in San Miguel. As first time goers, the owner -who provided outstanding service- suggested what to eat and we were NOT disappointed. Had a consomé (broth) which was perfect to start. Then they brought over barbacoa (slow roasted lamb) to make tacos and Mixiote (lamb slow braised in a spiced broth) that you can also make tacos with. They had home made Guava water which was a perfect complement. This was the first time I visited, but will most certainly not be the last. read more

This is a gem! Next to the bus station. I am so glad we read about it and made the time to try it before our bus out...even though we had breakfast a couple hours earlier. Pilar greeted us immediately and asked us if we were coming or going to check how much time we had since we had our luggage. That question is a small example of her attention to guests. We saw her chatting so with other guests with as much personal attention. When I mentioned that I like spicy, she brought me extra chilies. The barbacoa was tender and tasty, but the mixiote is phenomenal and cannot be missed! Depth of flavor cannot be missed. This is one of the best local meals. read more

Stopped in after a long walk from El Centro. Had the tacos which were delicious as were both sauces. Only thing that stopped it from being 5 star was that I was hot and there wasn't much air movement. read more
