EL PIKANTE Framingham How i have not heard about this restaurant/market beats me but their Fried Chicken is unreal! They don't do that thing with cutting leg and thighs apart, you get a full leg quarters fried to perfection! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! I enjoyed their pupusas con lorocco however the bean and cheese pupusas felt a bit dry and tough. The consistency of the bean and cheese pupusas may just have been a hiccup so I will order from El Pikante again as pupusas are one of my favorite comfort foods and it is hard to find them in the Northeast. read more

On the road traveling and looking for authentic Tacos for breakfast (I.e. before 10am), and this fit the criteria. El Pikante is located across from the Framingham MBTA and part of a very large, well stocked Mexican mart. The food was made fresh to order. Also everything was delicious. We ordered a beef and pork burrito, fried chicken and chorizo taco. helpful to order in Spanish if you want substitutions. Best burrito I have had since 1995. The meat was crisped up on the grill, nice spice and very flavorful. The burrito wrapper also tasted homemade. It did not taste like it was it was out of a package and warmed up. Central Food Market, is one of those hard to find places that serves authentic Latin American food. This market has everything from hot food made daily to frozen food, from different Central American countries. All is very yummy, I've tried the pupupas mixtas and the plantano con frijol (fried banana with black beans) and have loved them both. They breakfast burritos in the morning and tacos for lunch. The only down side to this place is that it's a first-come-first-serve kind of take out, stuff tends to run out towards the end of the day and they don't make more until the next day. Being Guatemalan I love tor-trix, it's the national snack of Guatemala, and to my surprise they had snack size bags of lemon flavored tor-trix here! read more

Ah, Framingham. You wouldn't think to find a little piece of Latin America so far out in Massachusetts but there you are. A place where my Latin American friends from work like to stop by for food and supplies. Perfect for a quick bite, Central Food Market is one of those groceries that carry specialty meats, drinks and dairy products to service the 6,000 or so Hispanic or Latino families in the area. Literally a pick up & go place (unless you're looking for a food adventure Indian style on the linoleum), El Pikante Restaurant dishes out freshly made soft shell taco's, tamale's, bandeja paisa and the yummiest platanos maduros pipping hot to go! Yeah when I say restaurant, I really meant grill counter. The two nice ladies in the back don't take Discover Card but are more than willing to help you decide on the limited menu. While not mind blowingly exciting, portions are huge, food is fresh and satisfying, and the wait expediant enough to hurry you through the lunch rush. Don't forget to pick up some fresh arepas on your way out!! Taco's are the best thing on the menu. read more

I love secrets and I particularly love food secrets. So when my boyfriend told me there was a burrito place in the back of this convenience store I have been driving past for as long as I can remember, I was beyond excited to try it. Pull into the central food market and park near the side door. Walk through the store to the back and you'll find the greatest burrito, hand made tamales, and fresh quesadillas you could ever want in Framingham. The burritos are huge, like about the size of a small child huge and packed with all of the wonderful things that should be naturally included for the price of a burrito. Guac, hot sauce, rice, chicken, beans, cheese, sour cream galore, I have a mouth happy dance every single time I go here. And for just about 6$ a pop you can't go wrong. The service is friendly and fast. Obviously it's not a sit down place ( unless you want to pop a squat in an aisle or something) so it's nice to be able to order, get your food, and go. The actual food market is pretty packed itself with everything from Goya to products written in Spanish. I always get these tortilla chips that taste like a spicy heaven although I can't remember the name. Good place for a quick lunch or dinner bite and obviously for some specialty grocery shopping. read more

I I have tried different plates here, the rosticery chicken is good but I tried a chicken burrito and the chicken they put in it had an awful taste. One of the better local markets serving the Latino community - groceries, prepared foods (take away), and household products. The absolute best item (for me at least) in the store are the Mexican avocados - you won't find this particular variety in any other market, and they are truly great (not cheap, but highest quality). They also have Guatemalan "pan dulce" and other baked goods. Anyone interested in preparing traditional Mexican or Guatemalan dishes will find the ingredients here.
