We finally checked El Poblano out, after numerous times driving by. They have plenty of parking on site. Customer service was ok, kinda slow at first. Honestly I tried to like this place, but the waitress made my drink. I knew then that it was gonna be horrible. I kindly sent drink back after taking a sip of pure sugar, non crafted. The food was just basic Mexican food, nothing special. I will probably never go back in the near future. Not sure if the staff is really wanting to serve the public or not, customer service needs to welcoming at all times. The food and service was not good at all. Not sure what else to say, but just do better. read more

As often as we drive by this restaurant it is always crowded, of course we had to check it out in person. There is a pretty sizable parking lot spaces on all sides with overflow in back. To match parking there are many booths and tables inside, also colorfully decorated. As for the menu it is limited to your typical Mexican choices very generic but that is not always bad. Low cost low quality although sometimes find one w low cost high quality, this restaurant is the first tier. I got the Pastor taco/pork for $10, it was serviceable w 3 smalll corn tortillas filled me up. One negative compared to another Mexican restaurant we've frequented is no side of rice included w fish taco. $37 for two fish taco entrees , two lemonade not horrible. The food is nothing to write home about. The salsa & chip is spicy. read more

what a experienced day, as we setting down for afternoon lunches and ordering drinks and foods. since we are regular customers for many years. The waitress spilled three ice tea drink all over the table. I was totally wet completely from the shirt down to my shorts to my knees. We did not yell or making unwanted noise , because to show respect for others in restaurants. When we got the bill and asked for a percentage discount, from the front desk owner said, I never see what happens. It is not about money, it showing concern for your customers who are completely wets with three ice tea glasses spilled to customers. I will not return to this restaurant that doesn't value customer or said I sorry for what happened. read more

A most unbelievable event just happened to my family. We were eating at EL POBLANO in Chapin and my daughter found a glob of hair in her food. All we asked for was another plate of food that didn't have hair in it. Instead the owner came over and brought the glob of hair with him to explain to us that it couldn't have been their hair because it wasn't black hair???! He said it's white hair all the while pulling it apart to show us. Basically saying it had to be my daughter's hair (her hair is dark brown) but despite all that he never apologized and proceeded to come back over a minute later with a hair net to show us the nasty hair net!!! I had to tell him to get away from our table and he had to be told twice to move away. We have been loyal customers for years at this place, they know our orders before we order, we have never asked for free food or had a problem remotely similar to this. I'm in shock. I'm also over El Poblano. This is just a reminder that El Poblano still sucks. read more

Unfortunately another established restaurant in decline. El Poblano was our go to place since they took over this location ( there are 4 Mexican restaurants closer). Every meal since they came out with their new menu with the much higher prices came out has been hit and miss. Today was the final straw. My wife got the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla. It had no cheese and very little chicken. Small amounts of proteins seem to be standard these days. My Chile Poblanos was good. This had mostly been the way for several months now and we used to go almost once a week. Very disappointing. read more

As. Fan of Mexican restaurants, I'd say this one is middle of the road. Nothing so hot as too scare folks, the dishes are plentiful and reasonably priced. It's a big place so waiting isn't so bad. Favorite Mex food in the Columbia/Metro area since the closing of Eric's San Jose (and even better before then when the same didn't have Eric or just management. Love Poblanos To-Go phone line. It's fast easy affordable and the food = delish. Love their chix quesadilla as well as the cheese--simple flaky cheesy buttery goodness. Their Taco Salad bowl is also amazing. The Tacos are great. The Fajitas are great. The queso is BASICALLY a lifesaver. Salsa could be thicker/less watery, and the refried beans need a different recipe. My GO - TO mex food in the area hands down!!!! read more

I love El Poblano in Ballentine with the exception of one server. She generally works in the back of the restaurant. We usually always ask to be seated in the bar area due the exceptional service in there. This one female server is unfriendly and lacks any service skills. We had to run her down whenever we needed something or do without. We hate being seated in her area. I think she hates her job. She got our check wrong too! read more

Side note thats not really relevant to anyone in particular but I must say, I wish the burritos were more dense in South Carolina. Dense and tightly rolled. Places in SC loosely roll their burritos, they skimp on the filling and they forget to tuck in the sides which is a very crucial step. Asked for sour cream instead of guacamole and got charged $1.50 for extra sour cream .25 for to go meal and then .25 for to go side of rice.
