Chapin main Mexican restaurant is here, behind the corner gas station. There is decent parking but when busy the overflow goes into neighboring business lots. Each day of the week there is a special, you get a hefty portion at least 2 servings worth. My wife likes the fish taco especially because includes side of rice not always included at other restaurants. I picked the special the two visits had, it's not necessarily the best quality ingredients but works. The initial chip and salsa get two salsa spicy & mild. I am always down for some good chips and salsa, well, more cheese sauce. Some good tacos as well. It's nice and close to home, and easy to call and pick up. They are always so nice, and it's not a long time to wait for the food. The building itself is always full of laughter and talking among friends. You are welcomed into a night of friends and food. I think we might need to go back soon for some more great food. On the weekends, they are super busy, so it's best to go early or later than the normal crowd would go. read more

We stopped in on Sunday as the parking lot was full which is usually a good sign. Ambiance is typical Mexican. Waiter brought chips and salsa. The chips were stale which was strange as they must be going through a lot as almost every table was full. I suspect they buy them in bulk. The salsa was very bland and watery, practically no taste. We should have left at that point but again, so many people can't be wrong, right? I had carnitas, which was also very bland. Seriously, bland carnitas? My wife had a California burrito. The meat was so watery that water was coming out of the burrito and swirling around on the plate. Looks like they 'crock pot' the meat. It also had very little flavor. Food was delicious...Edwin's service was worst I have experienced in years!!! Only provided service to the couple we were eating with. Edwin would not even speak to us for the duration of the meal. Wife ordered a frozen margarita with salt came no salt, same drink came back 2 more times apparently after throwing salt at the side of the glass as it stuck everywhere except the rim!!! Rather than continuing the little game, we just asked to cancel the drink because at this point the drink was 75% thawed. We moved the drink to the edge of our table where it stayed for the remainder of our meal. Our dinner guests drinks were refilled and their dirty dishes promptly cleared. We asked for togo boxes for our remaining fajitas and only one was brought and given to our guests. THEY asked for another box and was immediately brought one. Our dirty dishes and our friend the unfrozen margarita waved us goodbye as we left. It was our treat so when I asked for a single check to me...Edwin brought it to our guest. Neither wife nor I were ugly and I tipped 20% because to do otherwise would be petty and classless. We needed a lunch break on our way home from Gatlinburg. We pulled off the highway looking for Groucho's but they were closed so Mexican was our next choice. This was your standard mexican fare which is what I expected. Salsa to start and we added some queso with chorizo for the table. I can't remember what entree I ordered but it was huge. It was similar to fajitas and came with a side plate full of rice beans and salad. The service was speedy and we were back on the road in no time. Stopped by for lunch today. The parking lot was packed but the staff was working hard and were able to seat us quickly. We ordered the #11 lunch special and the #22 special. The food was hot and delicious. The chips and salsa that were brought to the table were standard. The salsa didn't have any heat to it. The taco was good. The ground beef was full of flavor. We were on Vacation and haven't been to South Carolina for more that 50 years. This time we were at a vacation rental on Lake Murray. We stopped there on the way back from the Zoo on a Friday afternoon. Waiters were great, kitchen got the orders done very fast and the food was excellent. I highly recommend it. I hate to bash a business, especially when the staff is friendly and the spot is local, but this restaurant is NOT a place I will return. I can't believe someone from Texas thinks this place is good! We were greeted by a sewage stench that nearly made me turn around and walk out the door. The ambiance is nice, but its dark and the odor was definitely off putting. The queso set the tone for the entire experience. It was bland, runny and likely canned, like pretty much all of the items. The chips tasted like low-end generic cardboard. They made errors in my order. That wasn't a huge deal because they fixed it and were apologetic, but when they returned with the 'correct' item I was unimpressed. Their 'Chalupa' was basically a tostada with no lettuce or other toppings. Just meat and cheese and not on a masa dough. The meat was bland, the guac was definitely not homemade and the beans were canned. The iced tea tasted like water and they found a way to make the most underwhelming margarita I have ever tasted-and I've had quite a few in my time! Overall, the Midlands is very week when it comes to Mexican cuisine, but this was on the lower end of even that. read more

This is our 'go-to' Mexican restaurant. The fajitas are sizzling and delicious and the Margarona is a big, bad motha of a drink. Definitely recommend! Family friendly and quick, delicious. Do you know how hard it is to find truly authentic Mexican food around here?! This place absolutely shocked me! I am in Chapin for a gals getaway. One of the girls grew up in these parts and her parents recommended she take us here. I am always down for Mexican food but had rock bottom expectations for this place. No doubt another tex-mex or americanized Mexican joint. Entering the place it sure has the right vibes. Full of locals and visitors alike that seemed happy sipping their beers or margaritas. One guy was so enthralled with his burrito he looked a bit hypnotized by it. Either he was starved or its that good. It sure smelled authentic in here. Our large group is seated quickly, right across the burrito chomper, and the servers are abuzz getting us water and making sure we have menus to look at. These servers were at our beck and call and the place was full too. As for the menu, the prices are unreal. Cheap cheap cheap! I go with the nights special of flattened chicken with rice and beans- $7.99. No flour tortillas for me. They had corn tortillas so I asked for a few of those for my meal. Everyone else ordered either tacos, the special, quesadillas, or salad. If you want green salsa, you can ask for it. It is amazing! Chips and salsa are addictive. By the time the food came out my mouth was watering. Oh boy!! "Please let this be as good as it smells" goes the chant inside my head. First bite of the rice and beans and I wanted to jump out my seat and ask the server to dance a cumbia or something with me. (I am sure they would have obliged.) I now understood why that guy was focused on his burrito. I cared not for chatting... I zoned out myself as I enjoyed my own meal. Then it was all gone too soon. I have been here twice, and probably won't be back. The first time the food.and service were adequate, if nothing special. The second time my food (a basic burger) was served five minutes after the rest of my group, Not only was it cold, i specifically asked for no cheese or tomato and it had both. As it was cold, the cheese wasn't melted, so it was easily removed. The tomatoes were diced, but I was able to scrape them off. We asked for separate checks, but were given one check each for the two sides of the table, which we just dealt with. Our server wasn't unpleasant, but didn't really pay us much attention. (To be fair, I did get a soda refill without having to ask, and that was nice.) I wish El Poblano well, but I won't be back. read more

After a long bike ride on the Palmetto Trail we stopped in for lunch. The service was efficient and our food was delicious. We sat on the deck which was enclosed with plastic curtains which we wished had been opened. The entrée sizes were huge and there was plenty to take home. Salsa was good, but i've definitely had better. We wanted some top shelf margarita's and server told us getting a pitcher for 3 of us was a better deal. Kudo's to him for recommending this but unfortunately it was a disappointment. They put a lot of ice in the pitcher which watered down the margaritas, so there was not much flavor. The aesthetic of this restaurant is really something quite amazing. The food is good, and I give the bathrooms an 8/10. The bathrooms are a little small, but cozy, and the paper towel dispenser is placed so that your wet hands will undoubtedly drip water onto the toilet seat, but the faucet really pulls the bathroom together. I think that the thing that really makes this restaurant earn its five star rating is that they wanted to put a picture up between the two bathrooms, but a light switch was in the way. To combat this, they cut a hole in the picture so that they could put it up, and still access the light switch. Would recommend. read more
