After yearning for a hopeful return of their BBQ Black Beans for years, they recently started advertising its return. As my all time favorite side, I'm still baffled as to why they ever discontinued them. So today, we purchased all of our El Pollo Loco favorites; chicken, rice, tortillas, and those beloved beans. With pico de gallo. All making for great tacos. But sadly, not quite the same flavorful tasting combo we so often enjoyed for years gone by, sorry to say. The chicken has lost a bit of its former glory, the rice was somewhat bland and dry and the much anticipated beans? A bit lacking of the same zest I remember so fondly. But hey, it could be just this particular location. A thumbs up though for at least bringing back a long time favorite. We'll keep trying other locations for taste comparison tests. read more

Terrible customer service. Terrible attitude by the employees and especially the shift leader. They got my order wrong after it was sitting on the counter in front of their newbie staff members. After asking if the food is my order, they rolled their eyes and took their sweet time to actually hand me my food. Then, when they were trying to give me my sauces, they tended to other customers while they left me standing there waiting even longer. Terrible experience here last night. I placed a pickup order through the mobile app hoping for a fast, easy experience, only for it to turn into a two hour disaster of messed up orders and wasted gas. I placed a pickup order and when I went to get it, I looked in the bag and realized they gave me someone else's order. After noticing the mistake, I parked and went inside to let them know, and then had to wait for them to find my correct order. I also want to mention that the lady working there called out her coworker for messing up orders all night, so apparently this is a common issue here. I finally got my order, assumed it was correct, and drove all the way home only to open it and see that it was completely wrong again. I ordered a bowl with no beans, but the bowl was covered in beans. I tried calling the store over and over, but no one answered. I ended up driving all the way back to the location to have them remake my order once again, but honestly I wish I had just asked for a refund. When I finally got my food and went to eat it, it tasted cold and off. They also forgot to include utensils in the bag, which was equally frustrating. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing. I had just been discharged from surgery and stopped at this El Pollo Loco on my way home to get something simple--a salad and chicken. Unfortunately, the service and food quality were unacceptable. The employee assisting me was rude from the start. When I asked for creamy cilantro dressing, she rolled her eyes and told me it was extra. I immediately said that was fine and that I would pay for it, but she shut the window on me before I could say anything else. When I received my food, the chicken was badly burnt, the lettuce was old and wilted, and there was no creamy cilantro included despite the interaction. I had to pick through the chicken just to find edible pieces. Given the attitude I was shown, I did not feel comfortable sending the food back. This was by far the worst experience I've had at an El Pollo Loco. I'm sharing this so the owner and management are aware that both customer service and food quality at this location need serious improvement--especially when serving customers who may already be having a difficult day. read more

We walked in and were greeted by Azelea. I hope I spelled her name right. She really has a lot of patience! Her strong points also include her proficiency when it comes to her job. She is one of the Best employees I've seen in a business. The floors, counters and bathroom are very clean. The atmosphere is laid back and very friendly. This restaurant has people from all walks of life and all ages. It's always packed because the food is so good. It doesn't taste like take out but rather like home cooked, healthy food. I placed an order for pick up at 5:45 pm. The young man at the register is a Super Star! He was taking orders and completing orders for customers. While I was observing he had a customer asking for many items with her to go order. He handled everything (forks, salsas, extra sauces, napkins) professionally, thanking her and wishing her a good night. He was SO polite, thanking everyone as he handed them their orders. El Pollo loco has headed south for years. I would suggest order online for quicker service. The chicken is still good but the sides and salsa are limited. No longer are the black beans and use of fresh tomatoes seems lost in my favorite salsa. I guess the real disappointment is when you order mixed you only get dark meat after paying a premium. Jamie at this location did make this right by offering to replace the meal I. The future. The staff is friendly but busy so no ideal chatter. Coleslaw is still not runny the corn is over cooked but it's processed so I would expect no better. They do have broccoli which is steamed . Lots of dishes made with chicken. The tortillas are somewhat bland in flavor and texture. I would love to say the location near me is the problem but others in the area have similar problems. Also FYI prices have gone up. A mixed 12 with 3 sides is about 48 out the door. The 8 pc was 29.95. I suggest getting the app so you can track points get the specials and order for pick up. They're always messing up orders at this location, several times i order a classic burrito, pay for a classic burrito (which has chicken in it) get home start eating and notice the main ingredient CHICKEN is missing, so irritating, and like i said, its happened multiple times, they charge me for the classic burrito but i end up getting a BRC! There have also been times they've switched out the chicken it comes with with regular plain chicken.. Another big one is ordering in the drive thru, they love to make you wait until it gets awkward and you're like "Hello"?.. Then they like to play the "manipulate the timer" Game, they're supposed to get customers in and out quickly and they have a timer... they'll just have you wait behind the timer start line, that way they can take their sweet time. Last night on 06/02/2025 I ordered a Fresca Wrap and Double Chicken Avocado Salad on the mobile app. My Husband picks up the order and gets all the way home, I open the bag and there is a Mexican Cobb Salad in the bag. NOT what I ordered. I called EPL on Sierra Hwy in Canyon Country to address the issue and my frustration. Male employee was calm but argumentative saying I did not order what I claim I ordered. In the end of our conversation he said he would ask the cook to make me a Double Chicken Avocado Salad and give me a regular size Mac and Cheese for the inconvenience of the order error and me having to drive all the way back to pickup the correct food. I asked the male employee his name, he said Greg. I asked him if he wanted the Mexican Cobb Salad back he said no but to bring the receipt. So I sent my Husband to the Sierra Hwy location with my receipt to pickup the food and a female employee was argumentative with my Husband in the drive thru about the order and claiming there is no Greg working there, my Husband puts her on the phone with me, she is argumentative with me, my Husband sees Greg hiding in the back, in the kitchen area, so female employee lied to my Husband, female employee not willing to hand over to my Husband what Greg promised so my Husband left the drive thru for home empty handed. I will never give my business to EPL again. My Husband wasted gas, time, and I did not get to enjoy what I paid for. That EPL location on Sierra Hwy in Canyon Country is always incompetent in order accuracy and customer service, I have always overlooked those things but not anymore. *Edit: On 06/27/2025 Supervisor Cindy at this location resolved my issue. I have heard out writing a review on this place because it's not like one review will change it, but this locations customer service is pretty much non existent. On several occasions I have placed an online order for pick up and all those times I have gone in and had horrible experience with customer service. Multiple employees walking past the counter and non acknowledge or ask "have you been helped". Mind you this isn't in a 1 month span, this year I've been 3 times and all 3 times have been the same experience. The manager today, Sunday October 26th, walked by, checked the receipts in front of me and then just walked away, back and forth multiple times, the gentleman at the drive through window came by dropped something off and nothing. At least 15 min standing there waiting for someone to say something, anything. Finally I got someone's attentions and told them I was there to pick up an order. During the time I was standing there, I did notice the cleanliness of the prep counter, food everywhere, it was filthy! The gentleman at the counter taking orders scratching his head excessively and messing with his hat. I would understand if it was just one time occurrence, but my experiences here have been 3 times in the span of a year, so this is the norm there, this is what's taught. Nothing is going to change anyway because all I'm going to receive in this review is a generic automated message saying to contact pollo loco through the website.
