The wife and I went for dinner there last night. The place was packed. I expected long waits for a seat and service, I could not have been more wrong seated, right away. The service was excellent, the food. My wife got salmon and mixed vegetables.\n She said the salmon was good. Just a little dry and the mixed vegetables were awesome. We have been loyal customers for years. We have never been charged for extra sauce. Now, depending on the size chicken meal you get the menu says it will now limit you to either 6, 4, or 2 sauces. The white sauce was our favorite necessity and unfortunately it comes in the tiniest container. What they gave was never enough! We always asked for extra. They charged us $2.00 today for 10 tiny extra sauces. Really? You guys have to be that greedy El Pollon? Popped in on a Friday night (7ish). No brown rice and no dark meat. Was asked if I would be fine with white meat since they were out of dark meat (don't ask me how!) So not to be difficult I accepted. Got charged for all white meat (so pay attention to what's being rung up). No Peruvian rice and they even charged me an extra dollar for bacon on their bacon cheese fries! Lucky for them it was Friday and I was really hungry. The food: Good flavor on the chicken. Dined here at 4:00pm on a Tuesday. No other customers. We ordered a family meal and asked for the freshest chicken possible. Everything they gave us was old. I asked about the chicken and the girl outright lied to me and said the chicken finished cooking at 3:00pm. There is no way that chicken was from 3:00. That chicken was either from yesterday or early this morning. We couldn't even eat it. Just threw it away before we left. I can't see this place staying open much longer. El Pollon=Slightly Dumbed Down Peruvian Chicken Comparatively speaking it's good food and a good value. For $10 bucks you can get 2 Breasts and 2 Wings plus 2 sides. It's enough for two people if you are reasonable about your portioning. It comes with two sauces: there's a garlic/mayo and a mildly spicy (at least here) green chili sauce. These sauces come in thimble sized containers which is typical of all Peruvian restaurants not sure why. Ask for two of each. The sides are lacking. Most seem half hearted or frozen from a box. Like what you might find at a old age home or a hospital or a $1.99 All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet in Downtown Vegas. Stick with the basics like the fries and fried rice. Yeah the Peruvians make a "Chinese" style fried rice. Don't overlook the Peruvian Tomato Salad. It's tomatoes red onion and lime juice and it's great. For the uninitiated Peruvian Chicken is rotisserie chicken. It has a distinct spice (garlic/chili/cumin) that is more pronounced the American grocery store style rotisserie chicken. The service is adequate and very fast if you get the chicken. If your one of those people who get a quesadilla at Peruvian restaurant, which is like getting a hamburger at a Italian restaurant, you deserve to wait. The store is very clean and modern. In summary El Pollon is a slightly sanitized version of what you would find in N Virginia but still good and a million times better/cheaper than any fast food option and probably not poisonous. I had never heard of El Pollon before until I noticed one upon up near my house. If you are one of those people who wants a menu with a million things to pick from, you will be disappointed. I, however, love this new trend towards restaurants that specialize in one thing and do it incredibly well. I want a pizza place to make sure they make great pizza - not to add junk like subpar chicken wings, crappy dough with sugar thrown on it to pass as a "dessert" or other nonsense. El Pollon follows a pretty basic formula: they make chicken.... and they do it very, very well. The chicken is Peruvian style rotisserie chicken. It is well seasoned, juicy, and has nice crispy skin. You can get whole or half chickens, and you can also get a 1/4 of a chicken in either dark or white meat. They have a variety of sides, but I love the Peruvian fried rice and their black beans the best. The price is great too. You can get a 1/4 of a chicken and 2 sides for under $6 and fill up without breaking the bank.... and I usually have a good bit of rice and beans left over. Good to see another option in the sea of the usually big box, crappy fast food chains that usually pop up in this area. read more

I do wish they offered more Peruvian dishes as there are wonderful choices at other places. But they are off to a good start.
