A few dishes feature their fish-of-the-day, which was pickerel for the ceviche and tacos during our summer visit. Marinated and cured in an acid of lime and tomatoes, the fish takes on a pink hue in the ceviche ($16) and has the taste of a lighter Arctic char. It's wonderfully fresh, either by itself or scooped onto a crispy thin tortilla chip, the citrus acid nicely balanced with a hint of heat. The starter just needed more salt. In fact, all their dishes need more seasoning. Perhaps El Pueblito is trying to respect an ingredient's natural flavours or cater to Bracebridge's older demographic, but everything needed an extra hit of salt to finish the dish - maybe they should just leave some at each table. The same pickerel tasted completely different in the fish tacos ($20), once lightly grilled and topped with pineapple salsa. Since the fish isn't deep fried and there's not a typical slaw topping, the tacos are soft; I wish there was a crunchy element to provide textural interest - even some finely chopped bell peppers and red onion would be great. Still, the tacos were tasty - the corn tortillas chewy and fresh, and the spicy mayo and tomatillo salsa great condiments for the dish. The refried beans were rich and smooth, lovely on its own or smooshed into the rice. The grains get even better once you add in consommé and chopped onions (from the birria tacos). In the end, the fish tacos are a little soft but at least they're not messy to eat. Consequently, the complete opposite experience of having a birria taco ($20). Stuffed with beef and deep fried, these arrive blistering hot and need to be wrapped in a tissue to dunk. Having seen many people have the dish at food trucks, it's a wonder how anyone isn't covered in consommé and grease without a proper table and dishware. If you're ordering these, it's best not to wear white. The slowly cooked beef was plentiful and tender, but because under seasoned meat and consommé, we couldn't help feel that the birrias were missing something. I was waiting for a flavourful explosion to erupt, only to be met with a slow-moving stream of lava. The flavours improved once we added tons of the raw onion, cilantro, and avocado into the crispy hot taco, a few sparks in the lava stream. Saving room for churros ($10 for 6) is essential. When our server asked us whether we wanted six or ten of the pastries, I thought it must be a rehearsed question as why would two people need more than six? One bite into the hot hollow logs of fried dough and we were hooked. Dusted with cinnamon sugar they were already delicious, but a dunk into a creamy thick not-overly-sweet caramel and the dessert was absolutely sublime. Family run restaurant with authentic Mexican food in the heart of Muskoka. (It's not Tex Mex so don't expect it) Delicious garlicky guacamole. We had the tacos. Our experience was okay. Our server Katie was so incredibly lovely which made the experience great. The food was very fresh but flavour wise it was just okay. We started with the ceviche and there was barely any fish in it. The homemade tortilla chips were tasty though. I ordered the shrimp quesadillas which were yummy and my husband ordered the flautas which was also good but was a little bland in flavour. Overall we had an ok experience here. read more

Delicious, fresh and authentic! Started off with a solid Margarita Clasica, guacamole and chips, then moved onto tacos and an empanada. Had the pork carnitas tacos and the pork was incredibly soft with super tasty mole and rice. The empanada was huge and crispy, stuffed with spicy beef. All great flavours and my wife loved the hibiscus juice. Too full for churros but they look fantastic. Gonna be back again for sure! read more

I'm disappointed in this local small business that closed early. Myself and a group of 5 showed up at 8:45pm on a Friday in August, just to be told that the kitchen is closed. This is after verifying earlier in the afternoon that they closed at 9:30pm - along with confirming their restaurant hours on the door. read more

Walked in on a whim on a weekend night, and got a table right away. There were about 4 other tables seated, so a little less than half full. The front was a store that sells prepared food and sauces. Walk in a little more and the small restaurant had lots of great art hanging on the walls. It felt like a very nice locally owned joint The restaurant felt a bit cold, they could have turned the heat up a bit. The server was friendly and spoke some Spanish to us in a (slightly funny) Canadian accent with it, but it was endearing nonetheless, he was trying. I got the mole chicken, and it was very good. The chicken was soft and tender, and the sauce was rich. The food came out piping hot (which felt nice since it was a bit chilly in there) It came with lots of beans, rice and a tortilla, the portion was a good size and would recommend it. On the bracebridge main strip. The decor is good and they have a deli style section up front that has some home-made condiments and frozen meals for sale. The restaurants decor is very gift-shop mexican with everything from sombreros to skulls. No mistaking it for anything but a mexican restaurant. The food is canadian mexican which means it is mild and not the bold flavors or spice levels you might be used to if you truly like comida mexicana. However, if you like the flavors of mexico and have a milder palate this place is a perfect option. They have a range of authentic dishes on the menu including Pepian and Mole. Something different though and that's always worth celebrating. read more

The worst experience ever. Waiting time 50min to get one out of two dishes, though the wrong one. 30min waiting for the juice to know they don't have any mango juice and another 20min for the apple juice they forgot about anyway. There is also a lot of Mexican things including maracas toys saying "shake me". Once I asked if my baby can play with it , it was taken away within seconds, though they allowed him to play on the first place. We left without even seeing our food frustrated. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. The chicken tostada appetizer was absolutely delicious. Excellent freshness and taste. The guacamole is home made and also so fresh. Unlike many Mexican restaurants the avacado that was used in both dishes were a beautiful green and perfect ripeness. The chips, I'm not sure if they are homemade or not but yummy and salty. Also very fresh. This restaurant's only issue was the fact that there seemed to be only one server covering the entire restaurant. Now the good news is she was extremely pleasant, professional and as attentive as anyone could expect given the circumstance. She worked extremely hard the entire time I was there acting as hostess, waitress, plate clearer and also I could tell she also had some kitchen responsibilities (likely getting drinks organized). I was so excited to order dinner from here tonight but then I called to place an order for pick up that I was going to have a delivery company pick up for me . The lady on the phone was so incredibly unprofessional. We were ordering two separate orders as we have another couple visiting . Apparently that was to much to ask because she demanded we tell her all the entree's first amd so on in order that the meal would be served even though we wanted them on separate bills . Also she insisted we e transfer her the money witch I've never been asked to do when using a delivery company. The delivery company pays and then we pay them . She made ordering from them so unnecessarily complicated that we just cancelled our order . You would think after being closed for months they would welcome and and accommodate the business instead of being so difficult. I'll never waste my time trying to order from there again. read more

Arrived at just before opening on Wednesday to place a take out lunch order. Place began filling up immediately! Food is so good! Fish Tacos were perfect: just the right amount of heat with a sweetness of pickled veg. Pico de Gallo awesome, ceviche good (cucumber a little too chunky but got around that). The best, though? It was worth the wait. The sign outside said Open but the door was locked until noon. We sat outside in a light drizzle for 20 minutes and I am so glad we did. I had the Carne Burrito and the flavors were outstanding. The best burrito I have ever had. Not a fan. The food was of course very edible, but I found it kind of bland and the chicken in the burrito dry (although plentiful). They charged for extra chips to finish our guacamole appetizer and my husband received the shrimp tacos when he ordered the chicken. Margaritas were good and not too watered down. Make a reservation for sure or you are not getting a seat. We were turned away with nothing available for at least the next 2 hours. They could have tried, seeing that we showed up with a little kid but there was not much effort made by management.
