Had I ordered from the place I usually have, I would have had to pay a shipping fee of $35 whether I had it shipped to my home or to the business. I hadn't heard of Joseph's before but decided to take a chance. I placed my order by phone the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and they took it with no problem, no extra charges; they also took the bone out for me. I was a bit nervous just because I hadn't tried this place before, and if there was a problem there wouldn't be much chance to fix it or easily switch gears. But I needn't have worried. While it would be helpful if they decided whether they were going to use numbers or just a line (I pulled a number upon entering, but they weren't advancing the numbers and instead just taking people who said they were next), I was in and out within ten minutes. The employees were helpful. Like many butchers, they have more than just the meat but it's not a grocery store (though I found I could have gotten the baguette that I made a separate stop to procure). The turkey breast I bought was at least half of what it would have cost at the place I've used in the past. With that kind of savings, paying their 4% credit card fee was fine by me (pay cash to save yourself the fee). Parking is easy; it's Dunning, not Lake View. Will definitely come back, possibly sooner than later since I've been wanting to try making a pot roast and I expect they'd have the right cut of beef for that. I won't bother with the butcher I used to go to with this one so nearby.

Nice bison ranch, 160 acres and about 120 bison…read more Small store for bison meat, jerkies, hides and skulls, water and sodas, large outdoor area with picnic tables ( bring a lunch) Very nice and friendly owners. The days became overcast the the lady I was with was cold so the owner found her a sweatshirt to borrow. The ride is the best part. Sitting on hale bales (I got a blanket from car to sit on in shorts) they ride you out on the trailer to one of the fields and as they enter the field, the herd comes walking up. You stop and they provide a bucket of treats you can throw and sometimes hand feed the large animals with a little care, they come right up to the trailer and they will let you know which can be fed or scratched, without an issue. Was never so close to a bison as to have them taking treats from my hand, kept safely behind the steel rail of the trailer. We saw calf's and they explained which were male and female and how the horns are in each. We were in the field a good amount of time because with all the bison around the trailer, the driver had to wait for a break to climb back to the tractor to go. Nice history story and short film before going out. Not much else to do there but worth the trip and there are other nearby things to visit the same day, making it well worth it.

Old World Market will satisfy the indulgent, bougie food lover in you -- the food lover who likes pretty charcuterie boards made from thinly sliced prosciutto shaped into flowers. And it will indulge the wine lover in you -- the one who likes a good glass of wine. It's a small store. Surprisingly small, actually! But along with wine and meats and cheeses, you'll find specialty food items like Swedish Pippi Longstocking candy (what?), pasta in all shapes and sizes, cookies, teas, oils and lots of imported goodies. You'll mostly find food imported from Europe: Italy and Nordic countries, specifically. They offer readymade sandwiches and small charcuterie boxes to go, for those of us who want to live deliciously but also have stuff to do elsewhere. Basically, this is a great place to visit to find something delectable to eat or drink in Valparaiso.
