I had a hard time seeing this place from the street because it is set back in a strip mall. But I am glad I found it. The food was better than average for Mexican restaurants. I had and enchilada plate with rice and beans, and there was enough left over for my lunch the next day. The table salsa was average, but good enough to make me fill up before my meal arrived. It's hard to find a good Mexican restaurant, and we're not from Quincy, which makes it harder, but this one is fabulous. It's clean and the interior is beautifully decorated. The food is delicious and you get it quickly. I think we waited five minutes after we ordered and our food arrived. The staff is friendly too, which is important. I honestly love this restaurant. As soon as you go in as long as it's not busy u get sat down with menu and chips. They take your drink order within a minute and when they bring the drinks they take your food order. All within ten minutes. The food is fantastic especially if you get anything with cheesy rice. As other reviewers have said, hands-down the best Mexican-style food in the Quincy area. The menu straddles the line between "white boy" Mexican and more traditional fare. The service is always excellent and always fast. A great choice if you're running late but don't want to sacrifice quality for speed. We've been in and out during the busiest part of the evening in 30 minutes or less when pinched for time. The really outstanding feature of El Rancherito's food is the quality of the ingredients. That quality does make a difference and shows up in the taste of the food. One of our standard favorites is their white cheese dip, it's practically liquid crack. Only decorum keeps me from licking the bowl when it's empty. The only down side to the place is the quality of the patrons, but then again it IS a Quincy restaurant full of loud overweight slobs shoveling in the food and bellowing at one another. Ask for a booth, they're high backed and block most of the "view." read more

I ordered the chicken fajita nachos & 2 chicken tacos for take out. The food was not what I expected at all. The chicken had no flavor and was very bland tasting. The nachos looked like a big mess in the to go container. Since when do nachos have lettuce on top?! I'm from Texas & I guess we have a more developed palette there. I noticed the high reviews on Yelp and decided I would try the place. After I seen the outside and noticed it was a shopping center, I skipped it and went somewhere else. About a month later, I pulled the trigger and decided to go in. As soon as I walked in, I was blown away. The place is very well decorated. It looks very Mexican styled and much of it looks to be hand painted. The place is much bigger than it looks from the outside. The chips and salsa were very good. The waiter took very good care of us, our drinks were kept full and he made sure we had everything we needed. The next thing that blown me away was how quickly the food came out. Literally, within five minutes our order came out. The food was VERY hot, which is how food should come. The food tasted very good, easily some of the best in Quincy. The lettuce/sour cream/guacamole all tasted very fresh. This must be the best Mexican food in Quincy. Walk in, give it a try and prepare to leave being full and satisfied. Just read the review of "Kat L" from Chicago, and had to comment. She sounds like a real diva. I have a sister-in-law she'd do a great tag team with! I go nuts when I see whiny demanding egomaniacal princesses giving the help a hard time in restaurants, and I'll bet ol' Kat is one of the best! I'm a native Southern Californian, and have eaten Mexican food literally all over the country, and plenty in Mexico as well. (Note: Mexico. Not resorts. Not tourist towns. Mexico.) El Rancherito is very good, especially given that it's located in the Midwest, where most people don't know what genuine Mexican food is like. Unfortunately, nearly all Mexican places here have to dumb down the real thing to be successful here. And, whoever said their guacamole is sad is correct.
