Mexican (and Tex-Mex) isn't an option that Queens lacks, but about a year ago the Chilaquiles on the menu put El Ranchero on my radar. Surprisingly, it is a dish that is hard to find in the Flushing/Fresh Meadows area especially in a sit down, comfortable restaurant. The Chilaquiles was a nice little plate of deliciousness - I loved the tangy green salsa soaked bed of tortilla with nicely fried over easy eggs (they way I ordered it). A fan of avocado, tomato and onions top the dish as well - it comes with a side of rice and beans. I recently returned when I was in the mood for enchiladas - they have combo option with beef, chicken and cheese. I ordered them divorced style with both red and green salsa. It comes blanketed with a shredded lettuce salad with tomato, onions and avocado. Rice and beans round out the dish. A couple of other dishes I tasted were the eggs with chorizo and the chimichanga - both were very good. I love their house salsas both a dark red and green one. They bring out tortilla chips with a thick salsa that is tomato-ey sweet. They have a full bar if you are so inclined and the service is very good here. read more

Nice corner spot with residential street parking nearby. A few tables comfortably spaced out as well as a few counter/bar seating. They get a lot of takeout/delivery orders. Not fluent in English, but very friendly service. They have an extensive menu! They give complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is a sweet tomato-y salsa and the chips are crisp. The Chimichanga with Cecina (Salted Beef) was stuffed! Crisp fried exterior, covered in flavorful red (tomato-y) and green (herb-y) sauces. The cecina is perfectly salted. I enjoyed the guac and chips (same as the complimentary chips) and pico on the side added freshness. They also have a house red and green sauce, which have a good kick and flavor to them. The Pineapple Juice is the right amount of sweetness and tart. I like that there's no ice so it's a full glass of juice! Overall a neat local spot to hit up for good food and friendly service (and a full bar!). read more

Came here on a Saturday evening and there were a few other tables occupied. Got the fried calamari and 3 tacos - al pastor with pineapple, shrimp, and carnitas. Everything came out delicious but the al pastor with pineapple was my favorite!!! We also got an order of churros with a side of Nutella for dipping as dessert and it was so good. The service was very prompt and kind - the waitress was laughing with us while we were trying to joke around with the kids and was very attentive. This place has become my go to local Mexican spot. Discovered it by accident and have been coming here since. Has not disappointed and have been consistent. My go to order has been the tacos or the carne asada chimichanga. They definitely don't skimp on the meat. The guac is very fresh and creamy. Pricing is good. A chimichanga was $16. Tacos are about $4.50+ each. Very family style. After ordering they give you free chips and salsa. Food poisoning!! I came here with my family to pickup an order and we all felt sick an hour after. It's 2 am and I'm typing this bc my stomach is turning and I'm sweating nonstop. My boyfriend and I were craving tacos late one night and decided to come here after seeing the great reviews. From eating only ever eating tacos from Taco Bell, I'm happy to say these tacos blew my boyfriend away. (yay) The staff was very nice and did not rush us as we were deciding what we wanted. Their menu is extensive so we took our sweet sweet time. We ended up deciding on their chips and guac (5/5), which were some of the best chips and guac I've had. The chips are likely made in-house and still retain their crunch. The guac is very smooth and unlike the chunky guac, I am used to from Chipotle and other fast food restaurants. Will likely be one of our must-orders when we visit again. We also got their taco: birria (3/5), lenuga (4/5), chorizo (5/5), al pastor (5/5). The birria was not as flavorful as I am used to and their consume didn't have much flavor, but I am also not a huge birria fan so I may not be an excellent judge. The lengua was good but not too flavorful, I am still a huge fan and would order again. The lengua was nice and tender and still enjoyable, but if you want something packed with flavor I wouldn't exactly go for this option. The chorizo and al pastor were by far our favorites. Strong and distinct flavors and you could go without their sauces if you wanted to, since it was packed a punch. The pineapple in the al pastor was amazing and I usually don't love warm pineapple. I'm pretty sure the al pastor is what changed my boyfriend's life. lol. We ended our meal with an order of their flan, which was pretty good. Not super rich in caramel flavor which I like usually and had a good bite to it. Overall, would 10/10 come again. Our new late-night taco spot that's for sure. read more
