The guac - very simple and bland, but again it was only $3.50. I was disappointed because...ya' know...guac is guac! On to the main event - my steak salad. UGH, THE SMELL OF THAT GRILLED STEAK WAS EVERYTHING! The platter came with a small salad, sauce, salsa, sour cream, rice, beans, and 2 soft flour tortillas (my fave!). The rice and beans were a great combo, as always. The sour cream gave me life! It was thick, rich, and perfect to spread on the tortillas, ESPECIALLY if you wanted to make tacos with it. I absolutely adore this place. Cheap asian Mexican place, but it is spot on! My go to order is always their chicken and chili combo (C1). Their grilled chicken is spot on, the chili is fantastic (slightly on the salty side), but a perfect combination with the rice. With my favorite combo in sight, I can never bear to order something else from their menu because I love this combination so much. On a side note, despite being a small mom and pop shop, their customer service is 5/5. I live around the corner so I usually walk to buy my food. Once, upon ordering and receiving the food, I walked home without giving my food a second glance. Upon arriving home and ready to eat my chicken and chili combo, I was devastated to find out that they had given me the wrong order instead of giving me chili, they gave me guacamole instead. I knew this was just a $10 order, but I really wanted my chili (yes first world problems) but this further emphasizes how good their chili is. Without a second thought, I called Taco King to see what they could do about it, but having minimal expectations. After the owner confirmed with the chef that it was their mix up, the owner asked for my address and said they'd deliver a replacement right away. This was before they knew how close I lived. Pros: the cost to food portion ratio was decent. Although, the portions weren't huge, I don't feel that they overcharged as some reviews have stated. The supreme quesadilla is a step up from a regular quesadilla with the addition of guacamole. I liked the fact that guacamole didn't cost an additional $50 for a small dab. Cons: the guacamole and the salsa didn't have much flavoring. The salsa was more of a thin red tomato sauce that had very little onions in it. The guacamole was definitely missing cilantro, lime and salt resulting in it tasting really bland. Unfortunately, I don't remember how the quesadilla tasted. Overall, for me personally this was just an ok restaurant but I could see how this restaurant can be a go to if you live in the neighborhood. Taco King is great for fast food (Mexican) and late night dinner. Many nights when I work late everything else in the area is closed. But Taco King is always open till 11 or so. I always order the chicken quesadillas or the chicken tostada salad. With the tostada salad I ask for extra dressing because it's a large dish and one dressing just isn't enough. The only down side is they don't take credit or debit cards so make sure to bring cash. That's why I gave them one less star. The chicken burrito can feed two people it's just that big.
