I tried their lengua tacos, al pastor tacos, Carne asada Tijuana style tacos, Carne asada burrito and their Jamaica Agua Fresca. I absolutely loved their lengua tacos and Jamaica Agua Fresca. The Jamaica was perfectly tart and had the amount of sweetness, and the lengua tacos weren't overly salty and was so tasty. The Carne asada burrito tho, while it was good, it was overwhelming filled with rice and it had very little beans. It was fine, but I wasn't as satisfied with the burrito, compared to the tacos. The service was amazing. The woman at the front was so sweet and recommended some items. It is a family run restaurant, so it's not huge, but you can tell their food was made with love. I wish I tried the tamales, but on that day, they guy making it was out, but next time I plan to try it! I'll definitely be coming back for their Jamaica Agua Fresca and their lengua tacos though. 100% so good! read more

TLDR: Tasty authentic Mexican in Whitestone - of all places. Chilaquiles and a lot of cool dishes. I believe I was searching for chilaquiles and that's how I stumbled on this place. Came in for a late breakfast early lunch. Got the flautas, the chilaquiles, a taco and they even had champurrado. Flautas - crispy, a bit thicker on the tortilla than I'd like and the chicken was a tad dry. The chilaquiles were flavorful, did salsa verde, added a fried egg and chorizo. Loved it, very very filling and probably didn't need the rice and beans. That being said, the rice and beans were very tasty! The taco was good, grabbed an al pastor but the chilaquiles are still my favorite. They had champurrado which is a Mexican hot chocolate that's hard to come across. They recommended to try the enchiladas next time, I shall and will report back. Overall though, very unassuming Mexican spot that I was glad to find. read more

This place exceeded my expectations. I thought it was a typical "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant based on the location and outward appearance. The wife and I went for dinner about a month or two ago based on her need for a Sancocho soup. It was a white Sancocho, and I wasn't thrilled with the broth at all, but she liked it. Now... my first impression was from the red salsa they brought to the table. It was chunky, the way I like it, with visible pieces of onion... but as soon as it hit my tongue I was cringing. It was sweet and spicy but tasted basically like... ketchup. It was one of my last favorite salsas of all time... I know they can do better, because they did really well with most of the rest of the meal. We tried the guacamole... it's possible that the avocados they used were not that ripe, but it was kind of dry and flavorless... needed some salt at the very least. But I didn't nearly finish it, and when I encounter a great guacamole... it's a goner. I told the wife that their guacamole was about half a good as the one she makes. The Barbacoa de Chivo however, was really, really good. This is absolutely worth going for. It's more authentic than the Barbacoa you might find at Chipotle, for instance, and much more fatty and it had random pieces of bone here and there (which was a little bit scary, like eating a bony fish)... but very natural the way it should be. It was served with a decent rice and beans, and on the plate were some jalapeños (that I didn't even touch... total gringo style...lol) and an excellent Avocado Sauce that was one of the best I've ever tried. The server was friendly and happy to please, though I think they should pay some attention to "sequence of service". For example, we asked for our sodas. 10 or 15 minutes went by, and they served our main course just as I had decided to get up and get our sodas, since no one else had done so. Unfortunately, we didn't have bottle openers, so we had to wait. We were also waiting for our utensils, so we sat as patiently as possible with our meals in front of us. Finally, the guacamole (appetizer?) was served, and then we received our utensils. At the moment, I think they're was only one other table occupied in the place. To be fair, we had arrived there right around closing time, so that may have had some effect on the service. And the service was otherwise just fine. I should mention that the lavatory was nice and clean and stocked. I was happy that they keep one of my favorite Mexican sodas... Sangria Senoral. I think we'll be back! read more

It is as if a little restaurant from Mexico City was magically transplanted to Whitestone. The pastor tacos are somewhat comparable to those of the gold standard, Tacos Gordos on the West Coast. The roast pork was fresh, warm and had just the right amount of fat to give super flavor, but not a super heart attack. While I was disappointed by the fact that the restaurant did not have lengua and goat on a Tuesday (understandably, El Morelense only serves the "exotic" meats on the weekends), I was happy to delight in beef nachos and spicy pork nachos. I loved the concoction of the ample protein, shredded, sprinkled lettuce, light tomatoes, light cheese, and white sauce. My dad wanted fresh jalapeños, but I wasn't disappointed by the pickled ones. The most pleasant surprise was the Horchata . I doubted the restaurant would carry the traditional drink since I didn't see the large rectangular tub with a cinnamon rice milk inside it; however, it was ordered, and regardless of where it came from, it was fantastic. Allergy alert... the horchata has pecans in it. It was the best Horchata I've ever tasted, and I've had my fair share. I love the fact that the restaurant is family run. The daughter acts as a translator/aide but the mother's is English is suffice. Come support this local gem. read more

This Mexican family restaurant is amazing, their food is very authentic and delicious. My family and I moved from Texas to Queens, NY in 2017 and found this place in late 2022, and it became a one hit wonder! It's a small restaurant in the Whitestone area with a variety of Mexican cuisine, baked goods, and Mexican candy. I recently visited them on 1/18/24 and ordered some breakfast tacos, and they were amazing! Photos will be included for exciting illustration purposes!!! I like my food very spicy and they do not fail in delivering their best of salsas that accompany the food so well. If you're ever in the mood for some authentic Mexican food and don't want to travel all the way to Jackson Heights, visit this bakery and restaurant, and prepare to be astonished by the food, plus their courteous service. They even offer military discount and I'm an Army Veteran that loved this place since the first time I visited. After taking one visit here, I never have to go to Jackson Heights again for tacos. The restaurant is ran by a family and you can taste the love and authenticity put into every morsel of food. I also tried their nopales, which I really enjoyed with some tortillas on the side and made it into some tacos...it was delicious! =) Their service was truly amazing as well, super kind people. One thing that really stood out for me was their support for the autism community which brought so much joy to my heart, especially the fact that I'm a behavioral therapist that works with children.
