Let's see how this recent visit went. We were immediately greeted by the staff and seated promptly. It wasn't packed but presented a cool vibe nonetheless. After a few minutes looking over the menu, we were both ready to order. My selection for lunch was quesabirria with consome as a dipper. When it arrived, it was actually birria tacos. I did ask the server about it, but he said it's quesabirria. Kind of confusing, but I'm sure it's tacos. Nonetheless, the meal had me full. The birria was well cooked and seasoned with other ingredients. A little messy, but it was all fine. And the consome was so good I actually sipped the rest after I was done. Even with the selection situation, I was satisfied with the meal for the afternoon. They will continue to be one local spot worth repeating. Till next time :)

Your wallet will stay full as well. The gordita that I had was stuffed with meat and delicious. We also tried the tacos, including the El Diablo, which was extremely hot. Enough so that he was sweating ha ha and our bill was less than $20 which is amazing in this day and age. It was so good. We had to come back this second time during the week. The staff are attentive. And the set up is pretty similar to most Mexican spot. Very clean.

After Sophia and I went to the movies over the weekend, we finally got the chance to check them out. Let's see if they lived up to the hype. We were promptly seated after walking inside. It's very spacious where you can have a small gathering. Amazingly, we were only one of two couples inside during lunch time. Traveling in this part of Newport News can have you blink and miss the location. Nonetheless, service was good. As far as the food goes, very good and filling. I forgot the exact burrito I ordered but it came filled with chicken, chorizo and rice topped with queso and pico de gallo. Both proteins are some of my favorites in Mexican dishes. I did think the amount of rice was more than the protein but not to where it was a disappointment. It was a minute since I ate a burrito and this one satisfied yours truly. There are a few factors why I gave Guapo's 4 out of 5. For starters, our table wasn't completely clean. Even if the place isn't full, you have to have decor spotless no matter what. Also, they were doing some painting near the window. It was strong at first but the scent decreased later on. When it came to chips and salsa, the dropped the ball sort of speak. The chips were cold to the touch and the salsa was underwhelming for Sophia's taste. Other than the snafus, our visit was good. This spot is one that we'll definitely repeat. Till next time :)

There were only a few others dining in but seemed like take out orders were popular. The dining area was clean and open and the wall decor was nice. For food, I had the steak fajitas which were delicious. My friend had a burrito and loved it. The drinks were also impressive. Will be back for sure!

I got the tacos governador, they're shrimp tacos with grilled onions, bell peppers, and cheese. They were amazing. The shrimp was so fresh, plump, and perfectly grilled. The onions and peppers still had a little crunch to them, so all the textures worked beautifully together. I took my food to go and rated a 5/5, but I'm sure it would have been even better if I ate it immediately there if that's even possible. It also came with this special sauce, but it didn't really need it. They were amazing as is. I did like dipping my chips in the sauce. I also loved the chips and salsa. They're the thicker cut chips and can hold a lot. The salsa was fresh and no heat to it, but you could taste the peppers. The employees were very nice and helped me because I came in thinking I knew exactly what I wanted lol but completely forgot the name. It seems like a local restaurant because the employees were very friendly with all the customers there, and seemed like they knew everyone. If I have time before I leave, I'll definitely come back! Thank you for a great dinner and first proper meal in Virginia!

So, Sophia and I ate lunch over the weekend to see if the word of mouth held up. Let's find out, shall we? We were promptly seated when we walked inside. There wasn't a huge amount of people seated for lunch which was just fine with us. The restaurant isn't that big with a bad set up in the front and a dining area with tables. Mexican music was blasting through the system and TVs were showing sports and TV shows. And the staff was busy serving customers. All in all, a very good vibe. After a few minutes looking over the menu, the both of us were ready to order. We both ordered 4 tacos each (Sophia ordered 2 chorizo and 2 carne asada). I selected a birria, lengua, chorizo and carne asada. Everything was delicious. All the proteins were well-cooked and the veggies and available sauces helped with each bite. No real complaints from any of us. A wonderful lunch here. It's pretty cool when you find a mew place which will be on repeat. Till next time :)
